Digimon - MORE Than A Pokemon Rip-Off 

I originally had some more anime clips, specifically Digimon anime clips, but I had to cut them down otherwise the video was blocked in most countries. Strangely, the Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokémon ones weren’t hit though 🤷‍♂️

Looks like Digimon getting lots of attention recently. Also Digimon Cyber sleuth complete edition coming to switch and PC :)

Digimon was my childhood, and it's always nice to hear the perspective of Pokemon fans when they don't just write it off and actually form their own opinion of it. Each Season of the TV show is more or less it's own thing, so it's best to go in without expectations (Although Season 3 in particular is very...interesting). The games follow suit and while Pokemon basically just rigidly sticks to a formula year after year, Digimon just kept throwing things at the wall to see what would stick. I'm glad that it's still around after 20 years of being in the monolithic shadow of Pokemon. I'd also highly recommend you try Monster Rancher. The TV show wasn't as long lived and lies somewhere in-between the other two in terms of overall quality, but the games are where that series really shines. Monster Rancher takes the moderate approach of maintaining the core gameplay, while making changes to it in each game in an effort to keep it fresh. The core gimmick of the games however, is generating your monsters by putting CDs into your console (or using passwords on the handhelds). From there, most of your time is spent week to week on your Ranch, slowly raising your monsters stats and reacting to how it behaves during it's drills, which can have a positive or negative effect on them. There are SO many intricacies that even 20 years later we're still discovering new things about Monster Rancher 2, which is usually considered the best game in the franchise.

Digimon: Children get trapped in a digital world with digital monsters, inspired by games such as tamagotchi, who act as their equal/friend/partner in order to save both the digital world and the real world by character development and amazing story telling. Pokemon: Kid catches animals, Kid makes animals to fight in order to get badges in order to become a champion, Kid defeats the thieves who can't even steal candy from a baby on a daily basis, Kid never develops. I like both, but I have more of a bond to Digimon than Pokemon, due to finding Digimon characters relatable.

Digimon isn't really inspired by tamagotchi, Digimon literally IS a tamagotchi. Tamagotchi's creator (Aki Maita) and Bandai originally created Digimon because Tamagotchi weren't popular around boys, there were already some early prototypes for Digimon in the 80's, though. Also Xros Wars/Fusion is considered the worst season by a lot of people because, despite having a good plot, it doesn't make any sense if you know how Digimon works, specially when you consider the power scaling of the evolution levels.

i strongly believe that digimon is just a version of what pokemon couldve been like, but better than the pokemon we know.. maybe if it had the popularity of pokemon now, the digimon franchise would become so great. they would have actual good digimon games too, imagine that. yeah.

I feel that the only similarities they have is Person has little animal partner which yeah would seem like a pokemon ripoff but it really isnt at least in imo

The moment butterfly started out of nowhere in the last evolution trailer I instantly had the feels. It was so unexpected but well times that it further increased the impact. Digimon is kinda hard to get into cause almost every season/game has their own gimmicks which might be confusing for newer fans. But hey, adventure was great, adventure 02 was alright and tamers was one of the best.

Yeah, i love both Digimon and pokemon because to me they are entirely different series. Digimon has way more evolutions, cooler art style, Digimon look way more badass. pokemon is way more childish. yes, they're both shows made for kids but Digimon definitely feels way more like a teenage series just like ben 10 did. i really love the new Digimon remake and I'm currently watching Digimon x evolution which is way more interesting than any pokemon movie.

If you only know digimon adventure then you dont't know nothing about Digimon, adventure was created to tell us a story about chosen children and his friends to save the world. But that concept dont't represent the spirit of the franchise and the Digimon lore.

I'm fairly certain you and I are about the same age, and while my memory is hazy, I do recall that I somehow started with Digimon as a very young child. I barely remember any of it but I watched enough to have seen the movie before Pokemon. What I can remember was watching Saturday morning cartoons with my dad and crying at the... unmentionable episode lol

I also grows up with Digimon in addition of growing up with Pokemon As I grow up, I noticed Digimon 02(and it's sequels) are closest thing any other anime-style medium got similar treatment to current Pokemon anime, so this make me hate Digimon adventure 02(despite my younger self watch it more than any other digimon seasons combined). Notably writers' refusal of having any superpowered beings that aren't strictly titular creatures from these franchises(even other mons series(including digimon season 3-onwards, but these already gone with all new kids and universes) did gave any kids superpowers on any occassion) And whatever Pokemon try these Digimon/yugioh routes, Pokemon anime fails like HTF ka-pow

Even though Digimon was not as favourite to me as pokemon, it was still better than yu gi oh and definitely better than beyblade.

Digimon is so good. The games are good, all seasons of the anime. (Adventure 01-Appmon) are great, and they have great monster designs. Digimon never gets the credit it deserves. Also, you should do a video on Yokai Watch if you haven't already.

Digimon is one of my favorite anime's of all time. I loved all the Seasons, and while most of it's games haven't aged well I think they're still fun to play. Cyber Sleuth was amazing.

Digimon season three was the best... mostly due to some of the background characters and some banger one liners. You realize how many adult jokes you missed as a kid in that series

i have early memories of seeing Agumon on tv as a kid its the only show i remember watching when i was very young so clearly it somehow stook with me. when i became teen i became obsessed with badass digimon evolutions. To this day alphamon is still my favorite!

Good video, at the biggining I thought this is gonna be one of those videos that hate on Digimon and call it a "rip off" but I was wrong. You made some really good points and I agree with most of what you said. Digimon is definitely inspired by Pokemon but they didn't just copy everything, in my opinion they did a much better job when it comes to the characters and the story that they told, however you can't just like that say that Digimon didn't do anything like Pokemon. I watched both shows and liked both but Digimon felt more impressive to me mainly because I like the story and the characters more, once again the video was really good😊😊

That's a good retrospective for the Digimon franchise. By the way, in regards to Digimon Fusion, or Digimon Season 6, I highly recommend watching it in Japanese ( Xros Wars), to get a complete feel as well as reading the manga. The dub can be really off putting with edits and localization fails, such as the concept of " digifusion", which is not specifically the digivolution mechanic shown in the anime ( It's digixros) as digifusion already exists in Super Xros Wars Red and Blue as a different mechanic. The dub also didn't cover the 3rd Arc ( Young Hunters). I also recommend watching Tamers, Frontier, and Savers (Data Squad) before watching the 3rd arc in case you're planning to do more Digimon in-depth analyses for a small continuity bonus.

I'm actually a Pokemon fan and I hate it! When people say digimon copied Pokemon and pokemon copied digimon I hate this they are both their own show and their both amazing shows

Digimon is one of my favorite franchises. I like Digimon a lot better than Pokemon because Digimon change back and forth like Transformers. Pokemon sucks because when Pokemon evolve, they don't change back.

Gonna give some bit of info on the evolution of Digimon. They go: Baby - Baby1 In-Training - Baby2 Rookie - Child Champion - Adult Ultimate - Perfect Mega - Ultimate Ultra - Super Ultimate (This one hasn't been mentioned anywhere but the games)

It is not even remotely close to being a rip-off of Pokémon. Anyone who says it is is either a liar or incredibly idiotic.

i admit Digimon adventure 3 felt rushed and is a complete mess when you try to get into it. ive been enjoying the remake of the original adventure way more. the best part is they make evolutions like metalgreymon and weregarurumon get new moves which is a really cool consept.

Don't you guys hate it when people relate Digimon with Pokemon when they haven't even watched Digimon. My friend said Digimon was a Pokemon ripoff I said why don't you name at least name 5 things they have in common with each other. The first thing he said well you they force Digimon to battle each other and you capture them. I said back Wait, first of they don't capture Digimon and they actually become friends with them rather than capture them so they will be my friend. He said Oh Me: -_-

It annoys me so much to see anything with friending monsters to be instantly labeled a rip-off, I wonder if some game devs cancelled their own game ideas because of it

Tbh the Pokémon games are fun as hell and imo better then Digimon buuuut the Digimon anime is so much better then the Pokémon anime, the Pokémon anime Made me quick boring as it repeats constantly without any progress while Digimon had a real story with progress and an actual ending.
