I'm never a fan of covers regardless of who does them but Dimash switches them up so much it's almost like listening to a brand new song. When Dimash composes for himself it goes into an entirely new realm and his new song Omir which he wrote both the music and the lyrics for is raw and real and possibly the best thing I've heard from him yet.

I actually like this version better. I too am a Freddie fan. Dimash will have composed the re arrangement, and I like it more because it is clear in terms of hearing the words, and the rephrasing give real meaning to the story. Dimash is 22 here. Away from home for 1st time. No English, no Chinese, so relying on an interpreter for every communication. He had a week to learn each song in whatever language he was told to sing in. So he had to learn the language he had to sing in phonetically, and the words, and get an understanding of what the song is realky about. That is no mean feat, week after week.He was invited to participate by the Chinese organiser of the singer competion, because of his reputation and success in many prestigious singing competions within his own collection of countries. His own - Kazakhstan Russia, Belarus and others too. And for awards his country awarded him for his Citizenship and charitable works. The singer is held for already well established professional singers. As a foreigner, Dimash cud not win as he is a foreigner, they changed that rule the following year. But the Chinese recognised his incredible talent and spread the word to the world. Thank goodness.
There are three times Dimash has sung diva dance. First time was on this same I am singer show that you were watching. As it is quite short, he put Confessa an Italian song first and added diva dance, Then he did diva dance as part of one his concert, Then on a Chinese show, he sung a duet called Drunken concubine, with a chinese male singer who specialises in female voices. They combined it with Diva dance. Dimash does a vocal fry and a whistle note in that performance. It’s really fun.

He knew no English and learned this song in only a week. I imagine he would be able to encapsulate the emotion of this song much better now that he is becoming more fluent in English. He definitely did Freddy proud for sure.

Dimash is a big Queen fan, and he sang this song when he was only 22 and performing in the Chinese contest for seasoned singers. It was one of the first songs he did in English and he was very concerned about the language. It is difficult to imagine a young artist taking on the intensely personal song of a musical icon with more respect, while still making the performance "his own." Of course the emotions raised by the original are not transferrable. For a more comparable experience : Dimash's newest composition released on his 29th birthday is called Omir, sung in his native Kazakh, an emotional prayer to Life from an intensely private artist.
There’s a version out there that has Dimash singing the diva dance in three different performances. One from the I’m singer show, one from his Basteau concert, and one from his performance with Lee Yugang. Since they’re all different it’s a fun clip to watch. I hope you find that one.
This is understandable, the song is a spontaneous anthem of a dying man, of course Dimash does not have such an experience. However, both Fredy and Dimash are phenomenal singers of world caliber.
I was one of those who recommended The Show Must Go On, and I knew that you would go for it. I've been a Freddie Mercury fan since I was in high school and I delayed watching Dimash's Show Must Go On for a long time because I was afraid I would be frustrated. I was not. Please react to Autumn Strong from Singer 2017 to see a different side of him. Sure, the Fifth Element's Diva Dance is epic, but Dimash's great at taking the audience on an emotional journey as well. Autumn Strong is one of those emotional songs.

I agree that Dimash lacks the warmth that Freddy brought to this song. Technically Dimash is a better singer but I believe language is the big issue. I agree, Freddy wrote this when he knew he was dying. What more connection can you have to a song than that? Dimash probably knew nothing about the circumstances of this song and as you said probably didn't actually understand the lyrics. Bearing that in mind, he actually did a great job. I'd also like to hear him do this again with his much improved English.

For warmth, try the second song he sang in that competition. It's Vitas' Opera 2. Dimash is stunning here and Vitas then insisted that Dimash not sing the song again. A crying shame, although Vitas' version is also worth watching for compare and contrast. If possible, get the version with English subtitles as Dimash's father is in the audience and Dimash is unaware that his father had travelled from Kazakhstan to be there for him.

Dimash is a big fan of Queen and Michael Jackson. I have no doubt that Freddie was looking down that night and giving Dimash a standing O. A couple of years ago Brian May saw Dimash do this performance and was blown away.
I'm french and the last song you reacted to from Dimash SOS d'un terrien en détresse is a french song and I had the exact same feeling you're having regarding his performance. I also feel it in this one. Vocally he is untouchable, his range, his technique and he has a beautiful voice , the full package. However every song is like a showcase of his voice not the song message, that's how I feel at least. Of course it's subjective I know many people feel the opposite and that's fair enough. But for me I prefer when he sings songs I don't know and can't understand the lyrics because I can focus on his incredible voice without feeling like he's using the song as a support to showcase his voice instead of using his voice as a support to showcase the song's meaning if it makes sense ? I would recommend listening to Opera2 it's in Russian and it's astonishing.
