Tagline: My God this is good. Join me on a magical journey as I countdown the worst to least worst Intros to Doctor Who. Yeah, sounds fun doesn't it? Twitter: / thedimmeh
Maybe they were out of sync on "Rose" and corrected on every other episode? :-P There’s a huge two chords in the music that plays on that shot of the TARDIS in all the other episodes. That is much better in my view.
There's a subtle sound effect at 2:56 in the episode Rose and in all the other ones it's been moved to 3:05. This means that it no longer syncs up with the 3D effect - keep listening and you'll notice it.
Okay, I've had a lot of comments on my vague expression over the Glynn theme. Allow me to clarify it for you. I fucking LOVE the Glynn theme. In fact I actually prefer it to the Howell theme.
Both Howell and Glynn's themes are great. Comparing 1980-81's after the long-lasted Tom Baker one makes it look and sound great. But once u here the comparison of 1986 to 1985, it just fits better by this point. But the remixs of Howell's theme on DVD special editions of Enlightenment and Planet of Fire sound extra good.
my favourite is. Top 3. 11th Doctor first Title Sequence with the cloudy/thunder vortex. 10th/9th Doctor Title Sequence (I know u disagree but I seriously loved this Sequence for some reason, not just because I'm a Tennant fan) the same as Dimmeh number 1. (completly agree with your number 1, it's brilliant, but only gets 3rd place for me)
The reason the sound effect is out of sync is because if you listen to them without the intro the sound effect is in them itself so when dr who returned they didn’t have an opening scene just the intro and the intro in rose was 3 seconds longer then every episode after rose so that’s why it’s out of sync after every episode
"The same [Starfield] title sequence was used in the Peter Davison era, except with Davison's face used now instead of Baker's and extra stars filled the right side of shape. In addition a "venetian blinds" effect is added to introduce Davison's image. The reason behind the new "venetian blind" effect was because, unlike Baker, Davison had a more normal hair style, thus the shape the stars would form is less interesting." -Doctor Who Wiki on why the Davison titles has the "venetian blinds" effect.
Just gonna say, it was a Mistake to change Tom Baker for one season His Final ,The new title should have started with 5th Doctor (peter Davison) Have a nice day guys !
Anton Resident I was trying to be like the Nostalgia Critic!?!?!? WHHHAAAAAT? Why did no one tell me? Gee, it's almost like I started this video with a DIRECT REFERENCE TO THE CHARACTER! Wow, Sherlock Holmes ain't got shit on you, bro.
andrew hayden Your opinion. I actually like them in series 1, but not in 2-4. And I have absolutely no idea why. Trust me. I have tried and tried to figure it out, but with no success.
Like it or not, you have to give the 7th Doctor titles some props for being the first fully CGI attempt. Aside from the meteors and that bubble - it still looks pretty decent, and the theme is quite perky whilst still sounding quite alien.
Here's my thoughts on the titles: Hartnell - Simple and good-looking with one of my favourite themes. Troughton - Simple and good-looking with a slightly remastered theme that's alright. Pertwee 1 - Not too bad with an alright theme. Pertwee 2 - Just the prototype for T.Baker 1; meh with an alright theme. T. Baker 1 - Pretty cool, standard theme. T. Baker 2 - Cool visuals with one of my favourite themes. Davison - Cool visuals with one of my favourite themes. C.Baker - Not too bad visuals with a pretty cool theme. McCoy - Very smart visuals (with ruined CGI) with a pretty cool theme (with a ruined melody). McGann - Not too bad visuals with a not too bad theme. Eccleston - Not too bad visuals with a not too bad theme. Tennant - Not too bad visuals with an awesome theme. Smith 1 - Awesome visuals with an awesome theme. Smith 2 - Pretty inventive yet hideous visuals with a not too bad theme. Capaldi - Pretty cool visuals with a meh theme.
Another fact about Keff's theme is that it was, and still is, the only only one to use the 'Middle 8' part of the theme in the intro for the classic series.
At first, I thought the Seventh Doctor theme was really cartoony, but it's since become my favorite. The TARDIS traveling through time and space and Sylvester McCoy winking at us. I love it now. Nothing ages worse than primitive CGI, though. But you can't beat Tom Baker's first title sequence. The classic Doctor Who TARDIS logo sliding down the time vortex and Tom Baker's odd face -- that's definitive Doctor Who. And they've never really bettered it.
Awesome video, I loved your opinions and can see your point on most of them. It's so super cool to hear about your TARDIS, great job. I'll be looking forward to seeing more videos from you.
Going with Series 1-3, the reason the first episode is off is because "Rose" didn't have an opening scene like every other episode.. Neither did "Partners in Crime." Just putting that out there
That's just the Netflix version for some reason. Original broadcast / Home releases had the lightning SFX consistent. I'm only aware of this because I got REALLY confused watching Eleventh Hour on NF last week.
i think i can help explain the ninth/ tenth doctor titles when rose come out in 2005 for the first time there was a sound problem that could of had did something to the titles
Tom Baker's time tunnel...number 1. I remember it used to be on after the football results. Before the Generation game on Saturday night. Hiding behind a cushion.
On the 2005-2009 titles - maybe they misaligned the 'och-och' sound effect because they thought the extended fan fare bit directly before was more epic. Or something.
Great video :) interesting to have McCoy on the top of the list. I enjoyed his titles probably the most out of the 80's era. But Tom Baker and the 2005-2007 theme accompanied in the vortex does it for me! Not when they changed it in Voyage of the Damned - The End of Time!
Nice video but I don't entirely agree with your list. So, here's mine 15. Series 7 Part 1 (just cheap) 14. Seasons 24-26 (Liked what they were going for but it kinda put me off really. Love the track though) 13. Series 7 Part 2 (Eh) 12. Series 8 and 9 (Clock motif was cool but the time vortex looked cheaply done.) 11. Seasons 7-10 (A nice jump to color although it does devalue it a little bit seeing as its essentially the black and white title sequence) 10. Season 18 (Nothing going on really although I quite enjoy the starry look and logo.) 9. Season 11 (The Predecessor for the most iconic version of the title sequence) 8. Seasons 19-21 (Essentially the Season 18 title sequence) 7. Series 1-4 (Pretty awesome even if there isn't too much going on) 6. Seasons 22-23 (More color plus Colin makes it better even if the logo looked silly) 5. Seasons 12-17 (Too much nostalgia. Granted, it would've been nice had they changed it up by say Season 16 seeing as it was starting to get a tad old) 4. TV Movie Logo (Like the console room, it's easily the best part of this terrible movie) 3. Seasons 1-4 (Too much nostalgia) 2. Seasons 5-6 (The Face, the face) 1. Series 5-6 (Essentially the 2005 titles but with more visual presence)
Yeah trust me I realised that just after I uploaded. I did a correcting annotation but also totally took the piss outta that mistake in my Ghostwatch review xD Cheers for the comment, bud!
The sting at the beginning of the 1980's title sequence get's my vote. The stars look great with lens flare and the bass rocks. McCoy' s titles would be 10 x better if the lo-fi asteroids weren't flying in messing up everything. Good video, sucks you said 1966.
