He's right when he says it's not for the masses. They're "mainstream" only among black metal fans but if you let a non-metalhead listen to Dimmu Borgir they're probably gonna say it's "too heavy" "too dark" "it's just screams". Non-metalheads will never say that this kind of music is mainstream
Well, for sure a non metalhead would, unfortunately, say the same thing about most of the bands in any style instead of trying to get through the "noise". Still better than Justin fucking Bieber hahaha
As far as I know Shagrath is a really shy guy. A friend of mine got to interview Dimmu recently but Shagrath didnt go to the interview because he was too shy. As far as o know he almost never does interviews. Although the second he gets on stage he blows us all away
What's funny is that Silenoz chose a really cool stage name for his personality and role in Dimmu, much deeper than 'same effect as the Satyrs'. He's always been the quiet mastermind behind the message in some sense. Silenoz (otherwise known as Silenus, or Silenos), was not just a Satyr, but the wise teacher and companion of the Greek god of Wine, Dionysus. Silenoz possessed the power of prophecy when intoxicated.
@x4ds8mt9b I appreciate you too, glad to help! And yea, the exchange names bit got to me. I felt that the humor was right between on edge and respectful in this interview. They did a good job highlighting the guys' success
I know this is a very old interview, but love how DIMMU were kinda reserved until the older gentleman said how he really likes there music, you can see how the guitarist opened up and started to smile more . They thought they were going to be surrounded by old stuffy guys. Thought that was cool. Saw DIMMU at an OZZFEST back in the day, great show.
Well I don't know anything of this talk show apart from this interview, but I'm glad they attended it. This interview is damn funny !! When the show host compares Shagrath's voice to the old princess, or when the older guy is saying he listens to Dimmu and they're like "is he insane or making fun of us?", and then they realize he's serious... XD Plus I think it's a good thing when people who know only about mainstream stuff get a glimpse at another culture...
I can relate to Sharath and the choice of name, when living in Germany I was a member of a biker club called 'Nazgûl'. Again, long, long before the LOTR movies came out ;o)
@@delvismallory6184 Jeg har vært for travelt til å studere, men jeg husker litt likevel. Jeg har lyst til å studere igjen. Norsk er det peneste språket!
Dimmu Borgir's Shagrath & Silenoz are not shy; they're introverted & deep thinker. The mockery the interviewers did was light hearted & humorous, not of mockery. YW.
Saw them years ago touring with Hypocrisy, Nevermore, and Children of Bodom. They played at this little dive called the Showplace Theater in Buffalo NY. A small venue that seemed even smaller when Borgir took the stage. They barely had room to fit each band member on stage and they had to move the drums to the corner in order to make more room. Their production is kind of silly when you see it in a small club in the middle of Buffalo, the band members performing shoulder to shoulder, dicks to assholes but regardless it was a good show and a good time.
What a brilliant interview. Very positive with no nobheads like you typically get with english interviews. Interviewers trying to take the light from the interviewee ever since they dropped parko. Much love for Dimmu Borgir theyre awesome
haha quite enjoyed that interview! Both of them seem really nice. Sadly I'll never see such interviews (metal bands) in my country (Switzerland) untill the next 400 decades or so.. at least. Fuck me, Norway's too badass.
I liked how he talked about Extreme Music with extreme expression and how music like this they can’t have normal names.. makes so much sense. I remember flipping through the notebook of death cult Armageddon
I love Dimmu Borgir! The guys are very, very, intelligent. I guess their music is the only one with a philosophical message! If you haven't listened to Dimmu til now, well...its time to start doing it! And, if you are an intelligent person, you will deffinetly like it and become a fan!!! Forget the misconceptions: Black Metal is not for satanists!!!
I saw these guys at Wacken Open Air a few years ago and it was a great set they put on. I had hoped for some of the more popular titles than they played but it was still a killer show.
Haha, actually in the LOTR book the orc's name is spelled Shagrat whereas the singer's name in Shagrath, so there is minor spelling difference even if they are pronouned the same.
yes, it is - but only in English it is pronounced with the 't -h', everywhere else it is just a 't' and sounds just the same. Maybe he didn't dare to get into legal battles with Tolkien's relatives?
If avoiding legal action was the reason for the "mispelling" of his pseudonym, then what about the following bands/artists within the extreme metal scene...; Count Grishnackh, Gorgoroth, Falls Of Rauros, Isengard, Summoning, Burzum, Amon Amarth, Morgoth... etc etc etc !
I liked this interview. It's very funny. I actually understood some words here and there (I'm doing a course in Norwegian now). I really LOLLED when the guy in the suit started talking about black sabbath and sharing their hairdresser! fun stuffs :)
I feel sorry for them both. The Host and audience members are somewhat making fun of them. Im a huge fan of Dimmu Borgir, and them making fun of their vocals and so on is quite rude.
I like this video. I never got into them or even heard of them till Death Cult Armageddon came out. I like to listen to it at work and see the reaction of co-workers. : )
they seem like they dont want to be there... i see them being uncomfortable with the silly questions and the way they ask them...if you gonna invite someone on tv at least show some respect ffs.
Presumably, the listener had turned down the volume because Progenies of the Great Apocalypse was louder than the program dialog before it. It was now safe to turn the volume back up because the music had finished.
Shagrath is so shy. This is so cute, he's very handsome, he looks like an angel. But when he's in makeup and onstage he turns into someone else, he's absolutely, and incredibly fucking! ❤❤❤❤☠
that pop artist was WAY more humble than that host! then the host goes like well you have a song to play so go prepare... almost like saying "stop diverging the mocking were doing here!" but then again, mocking a band only makes the other one feel cheaper...
the biggest failure in Dimmu-bandhistory was to kick out MUSTIS and VORTEX! After that everything went down the drain. Especially VORTEX stage appearance and his clean vocals where such an epic add to their music! They should reunite with Mustis, Vortex and Nic Barker - THAT WAS THE BEST DIMMU EVER!!!
I don't think they were necessarily roasting the band, they were just having a good laugh and the band didn't look offended and responded in kind. I think they all just have a witty, dry sense of humour and they seemed more respectful than anything.
I'm from the UK so maybe it doesn't translate so well, but from where I'm sitting, I'm thinking Shagrath would have to lose around 100 IQ points to be comparable with Kid Rock. The fact 52 people agreed with you is kind of depressing.
I am starting to listen to'em now- they r great i like their song sorgens kammar del - wht songs do u recommend me to listen to?? p.s I'm a big fan of opeth
@@heartywhistler I know I'm necroposting, but you seriously think, that because some guy got a date wrong by 2 years, he was being a jerk? Were you less than 20 years old when you made that comment?
Yeah. I think the guys in the band showed they were much nicer than the hosts of the show, and handled themselves quite well. Especially the singer. He was very laid back.. not the kind of behaviour I expect from the singer of an extreme metal band.
