This man was the heart and soul of Dimmu Borgir, without him the band has been in shambles and is now a shadow of it's former glory in my honest opinion.
Much agreed. I grew up with Dimmu Borgir and Behemoth being my two favorite bands. It’s heartbreaking to see Behemoth reach it’s well deserved zenith while Dimmu Borgir flounders.
2022 and mustis is still one of the best pianists in the history of black metal..he was the soul of dimmu borgir, since he left the band has lost its glory.
Denon receiver, someone talked me into that and I am glad that they did. But the Subwoofer was a Sony and I bought it completely new from Best Buys. A 3 ft. Cube. What I loved about that Subwoofer is there was a lot of control. You could choose hi cut or low cut bass and you had a Knob that would find The Sweet Spot...
What a fucking awesome composer he is. True genius. As a former classic piano player myself, I can say that making a piano sound that dark and sinister takes a lot of creativity. What a shame that so many egos got in the way and ruined that band.
Depends on what we are talking about, as a composer I feel Mustis beats Rudess, overall I feel Mustis has more "feeling" for it, playing wise Rudess might be faster doing his solos and following the song. Jens Johansson from Stratovarius is also seriously skilled at piano.
This dude really made Dimmu Borgir into something special. They’re all talented but when Vortex and Mustis were involved they really did some cool shit.
Well, it's not Mustis, but Arcturus comes very close to this piano style mixed with Simen's vocals and metal stuff. Especially on The Sham Mirrors (though it is Garm singing :)). Their other albums are even better, but TSM is the closest to that style. The newest album is the closest mix of Simen himself and this kind of style, but not quite like TSM.
There's an Austrian group called Die Verbannten Kinder Evas, whose album "Dusk and Void Became Alive" is very similar to this, but with some decent female opera vocals (not pop-Nightwish/Epica/whatever or anything like that).
He was definitely their musical mastermind, they're all great metal musicians but he is the one to give it the great melodies and musicianship, shame they got rid of him.
@@hectortorres8188 His influence started in Spiritual black dimensions. Do you really think all those synth layers were Shagraths idea? Not entirely, but Mustis made the bridge between the "old" dimmu and the classical Dimmu. It has been an abominal idea for Dimmu to try and build on his legacy with him gone. It has become uninspired. Dont get me wrong, I think ENTHRONE was one of their best albums (before Mustis) but Dimmu is way over their head with the standard Oyvind left them!
@@wilfredheerspink5246 Wrong, Mustis sucks, if he is so good why hasn't he done anything. Pruritanical and Death cult were good because there was an entire orchestra, and they had really good formation. Spiritual black dimensions... do you know who Nagash is? (have you heard those master pieces nexus polaris and animatronic?) Ha, no, those keyboards aren't by any means Mustis' ideas. Then we have "In sorte.." no orchestra, tired ideas, it sucks, is it also Mustis fault? no, he isn't responsible for anything... later they came with Abrahadabra, and it's better than in sorte, i would say, they managed things very well without those 2. And the latest, it sucks, just because they are over, not because Mustis isn't there. So, stop sucking this guy's dick and get realistic.
I feel like im in a vampires castle on the top of a cliff as the waves from the ocean crash against the rocks, in the middle of the night. Full moon and everything cliche like that.
My heart sank the day Mustis and Vortex left the band. 2009 - Dimmu Borgir died Watching this beautiful piece only proves just how valuable he (and Vortex for that matter) are as musicians.
Let's not forget about Nick. I think, despite the enormous drummers that Dimmu has had, Nick brought something to the band with his playing. Also in Cradle, never was the same again after he left. People always overlook the drummers, but he too was a very important member in the dynamics of the band. Still, Dimmu rules.
So unfortunate that Mustis haven't recorded an album compiled of "unplugged" version of Dimmu Borgir. This version is even much more evil than the original!
And they definitely are going down. But my question is WHY they have fired Mustis? What was the reason to do so? He put so much new and positive influence to the Dimmu music... What is your opinion, Marko?
They fired vortex for forgetting his instrument and going into a drunken rage smashing a glass on his forehead. One of them signed a copy of an album and went to auction it on ebay with just his signature out of greed. As for Mustis I here's a snippet from his statement regarding leaving the band: "address the fact that many songs written by me had not been registered properly under my name in their credits. Without naming every single track, let us just say that a good majority of albums like 'Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia' and 'In Sorte Diaobli' would have been vastly different had I not composed and created as much as I actually did,"
persiuntimu emeilas Because he wanted to license his piano parts on every song in played in. In other words if he would have left/fired from the band Dimmu would not be able to use, sale music that he played in without his consent. It was a good thing that he was let go.
Mustis. Forever eternal \,,/ First discovered Dimmu when I was in either 5th or 6th grade. Been a fan ever since. This shit will transcend the ages yo \,,/
Who is giving this clip a thumbs down??? Mustis is a damn legend. My dad used to hate Black Metal and he's been a Orchestral Piano player since i was a kid but when he saw Mustis play he was amazed, and since has a newfound respect for BM. Mustis needs to front his own band!
Dimmu Borgir will never be the same without his amazing piano skills. Along with Vortex's incredible voice. Listening to this is so entrancing, I'm in love with these melodies.
they came to my town 9 years ago and played in a church thats been converted in a music venue this is when they changed the line up and i payed tribute to mustis wearing his corpes paint pattern shaggrath saw me and threw me the horns best night ever
I'm sorry to say this but how many of you has listened to Abradahara and felt that the last album of Dimmu Borgir was not great at all? I felt that it wasn't. today I wanted to see this video because I love the way Mustis plays. I believe that mustis is one of the best keyboardist and talented musicians than any I have ever listened to in metal. in fact he has a passion for his music and I admire him for his hard work.
+mayra reyes I loved mustis' music very much, but I actually loved Abrahadabra. I really don't get why there's so much hate for that album. It's fucking magical in my humble opinion. The lyrical themes may be different,(less blunt satan worship, more focused on the concept of breaking the chains that religion holds on the world) and the operatic symphonic nature of it might have been taken to a whole new level (as compared with their older albums) but for me, that's a good thing. I love the evolution that each of their albums take from one to the next.
Abrahadabra was the last piece where Mustis composed. He decides to go out of the band cause they didn't recognize what compisitions were made by him. I think Abrahadabra was yet a great work of Dimmu But surely the last good, without Mustis and Vortex Dimmu can die...
He and Vortex were so good that they had to tour with an orchestra after them to make up for their loss! Mustis is an exceptional pianist and the best in metal!
They kicked him out cause he demanded songwriting credits. He wrote a bunch of stuff on the last 3 albums and he did all orchestrations alone. Vortex was also kicked out for siding with Mustis.
> Mustis and ICS Vortex "leave" (more like they kicked them for the lulz) > They were the only decent members of Dummy Burger. > Dummy Burger joins deeper into the dark sell-out side of the Force. > Silenoz and Shagrath now shit bats in the morning, regreting the departure of both. Conclusion: this band is doomed. Nearly seven years since "Abra-fucking-hadabra" and they haven't made new stuff. I bet my candy bag Dummy Burger is going to split during 2017. Which is a fucking crap, I'm a big fan of them. I'm being serious: I even got "A Succubus in Rapture" as ringtone.
@@-Vitalis- I used to have Progenies of The Great Apocalypse as my ringtone cos it's impossible to ignore or confuse with anybody else's ringtone, lol. After a couple of years I tired of it making me jump every time the phone rang and used some chiptune instead.
Yeah, I'd buy it but at this point he isn't going to do a solo career. It's obvious that Shagrath really damaged him if he doesn't have enough trust in anyone to join another band or even go out on his own. It's a damn shame and it was done all to appease Shagrath's fragile ego. Does anyone else wonder why Galder hasn't made a new album in 15 years? Yeah, Shagrath.
I don't get it. Why in the whole rotten world would you let go of a musician like this? Damn, this guy was AMAZING! I hope he is doing well with his current endeavors!
You may be surprised to learn that (if you read the liner notes) Mustis was the one who wrote [Progenies of the Great Apocalypse]. Arguably their most popular song. Awesome performance, too. Great to hear the song in this perspective. He's pounding those keys!
Definitely, a lot of emotions are coming out from Mustis's fingers while he's playing... and taking us to the world of sensibility... it's really a great apocalypse.♡
@@sebek755 No. The bearded dude is Gunnar Sauermann. A German metal journalist. Silenoz has his little beard tightly wrapped, whilst Gunnar has a thick full beard. They are both in the background
@@Ballad2Grave hahahaha. Eh no.. He is definitely not a professor. He played on an album with my band Susperia after leaving Dimmu. In 2011. Now he lives in the countryside, isolated and works with music.

Junior Lenharo I feel like since Mustis and Vortex left it’s been a somewhat decline. I still enjoy their music but it’s some what repetitive at this point.
@@chadworley8389 Come on man, don't sugarcoat it. Dimmu Borgir has become the "Metallica" of Black Metal. They've completely turned their backs on the very sound that made them great. Firing Vortex and Mustis was the dumbest thing they could have ever done, and they will never recover. Took them almost 8 years to release a follow up to Abrahadabra, and as we witnessed, it certainly wasn't a "Spiritual Black Dimensions" or "Enthrone Darkness Triumphant"...
Mustis is an absolute genius. He composes masterpieces. Wish I could see him again. Going to see Dimmu in a few weeks in Dallas. Got to see them a few years back with Mustis & Vortex. Really hard to imagine what it will be like without them.
The intro of this song always reminds me on a mix of the Batman theme from Danny Elfman and some old Final Fantasy song. The piano version makes this feeling even stronger.
I'm more an alternative/progressive rock person, not a big fan of metal but Mustis was the only reason i was listening too Dimmu, i hate that they fired him,he's an amazing pianist and very talented artist. Dimmu does not exist for me anymore since Mustis left.
