I totally agree with the guy who said that they all (barker, hellhammer, kolias) can do it fast. More than enough. Kolias being the fastest, perhaps. But for me, Barker has the better feeling, the most unpredictable and creative drumming style. He just makes 'em sound both more aggressive AND catchy. Think about it: most of the lines in this video were composed by Tjodlav, the old Dimmu drummer. Barker has made them 10x more tight and intricate. The man is a drum god.
Jaime Noro They all are probably the best modern day drummers on the planet, not denying that, but when we're talking about speed it's no longer a matter of taste. Hellhammer is definetly the fastest of the three.
yeah, nick barker is one of a kind with his fills, accents and all; cof was great when he was there, so was dimmu. i love the old dimmu borgir but drumming-wise 100000 steps forward. he's a legend in his genre.
Hahaaha this is killer. You can see John "The Hammer" Goss on stage getting pissed off about something. He was Barker´s drum tech during his stint with Dimmu. Went to work with Nile, C.Corpse, Slayer, Judas Priest, and many more. Dimmu's crew and line up back in the day (or right after Nick joined the band) was so fun to be around. Was lucky enough to to a few gigs with them loading/unloading. Great times!
Nick Barker is the Neil Pert of Metal music. Others are fast, others use alot of cymbals...but Barker does it all AND he does it with beautiful composition unmatched by NOONE!
@@phoenixpruett2097I can kind of envision it, but Opeth has almost jazz-like drumming. That's a different sound altogether. But if anyone can do it, it's Barker.
And to think, Barker wanted to be a guitarist early in his life. Thanks to his "sausage fingers", as he declared himself, he switched to drums. One of the best failures in metal history.
totally agree, Nick's fills etc are amazing, just compare tracks off puritanical to en sorte, i think blessings upon the throne of tyranny is one of the best black metal drum instrumentals ive ever heard.
Hellhammer, George Kollias.. Theye fucking kick ass on drums indeed! Nick Barker is the best drummer for Dimmu. GK is the best drummer for Nile. HH is the best drummer for Mayhem. Thats my opinion!
И подумать, Баркер хотел стать гитаристом в начале своей жизни. Благодаря своим «колбасным пальцам», как он себя заявил, он перешел в барабаны. Одна из лучших «неудач» в истории металла.
I love Borgir, but the worst thing theyt ever did was sack Barker. The band turned to shit after that, both creatively and technically. Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia was by far their pinacle. And I feel that was in large part due to Barkers amazing drumming!
Dimmu should have done everything they could to keep the lineup from PEM. Since the departure of Barker, Vortex and Mustis the band has gone way downhill
I've been listening to Dimmu Borgir for a few years now, and I always looked up to their music talent, seeing them as nearly untouchable. I am a drummer in a band who has played a few gigs and it's great seeing such a powerful juggernaut of black metal doing some of the same things my band and I do when we aren't performing. That usually includes one or more of us jamming/warming up in the middle of somebody trying to talk. lol. Nicholas Barker, though, blows my drumming talent out of the water.
Wow, someone with a factual constructive comment!! I know the feeling you are talking about, its about having two drummers who play exactly the same notes with no mistakes, but... one of them masters that "tight" feeling.
@Jendrij yeah,I got goose bumps listening it at first time, he does it so natural and it hardly perceived during show. I need to hear his line directly from his trigger, I guess he would playing more sensitive phrases. btw I think this vid offer some "live" sound against trigger topic.
@darkinterpret I think that in this footage triggers are not that loud campared to the drums and cymbals itself so we can hear all the accents clearly!! I think all that trigger bullshit discussions are rubbish. It's simple to understand that triggers are helping people at the live shows to hear all speed double bass parts or even on other instruments, like N. Barker did on the album P.E.M. and during live acts!! Kudos for the video and cheers from Poland!!
I agree. I have watched HH since his earlyer bands and he grew a lot, from a drummer who only knew speed, now he knows technique too. But Nick is still tighter in my opinion.
@TageVarulv Thank you. Nick was in the game way before kollias got into the metal scene. George is a VERY good drummer, But.... Not as creative as Barker will ever be, And to parsonsmatt, Nick obviously hasnt heard indoctrination or blessings upon. If Nick were to loose weight, With an arm would destroy kollias >.< but yes, IMO, Nick is better than Kollias :)
Tjodalv was badass, Hellhammer was better, and Nicholas Barker was the best. in my opinion, at least. ironlically, my fav album from them is For All Tid featuring Shagrath on drums -_-
I agree, he's like this drummer from the typical mexican metal band: Transmetal. Damn, so many years of playing and nogthing new with that drummer Sad.
