This one, the Jaguar Police Cruiser and the Merryweather 285 Fire truck with working water pump were my 3 fav toys. How I obtained them was even more fun. Taking the boat from Ostend to Dover with my uncle who was captain on Sealink ferry’s and stepping into a toy shop in the UK to get one of those. Priceless kids dreams fulfilled

A beautiful job. It's a pity that the doors were so unsatisfactory on the original model, but you have made them fit as well as possible and made it into a pleasing example.

This is another great build. I think this also came as part of a set which I had but like most of my childhood treasures was lost to time. Another one that I need to look to out for and to capture again.

Superb restoration but just one minor point the extendable pole in the rear was a scene light and not radar - police in the UK were not using radar then and as it was an accident unit it would have been equipped with a night searcher lamp. Keep up the amazing work

Still have my original one in perfect condition in its box with all accessories. My box didn't have a window though, think that was a later version maybe? Shame I cannot post a photo. A joy to watch though.

I had one of these. But, I don’t recall the grey box on the rear roof. Maybe the model got slightly revised later?

I had one of these when I was a kid in the 70's. I don't have it anymore but still have some dinky toys, atlas digger, starship enterprise etc. unrestored but in reasonable nick tucked away safely in their boxes.

Top class job paul ive got a couple of these one thing ive noticed about this model its quite heavy and robust

Managed to find a mint condition boxed one off ebay about 10 years ago. One of my favourite dinky vehicles as a kid in the early '70's. Did not cost as much as I thought it would, but quite rare I should think, even had the police accident signs with it. Great restoration, not a clue what happened to my original model but like many just wish I had kept them all. Unfortunately you not do realise how much they will be worth in the future! Whether any current models will be worth much in years to come will be interesting to see. Just not the same quality these days.

Excellent video. I had one of these when I was a kid in the 70’s together with a Police Range Rover. My most prized Dinkys. I played with them so much though they didn’t stand up to the use and as you said, they weren’t that well made to stand up to the abuse of an 8 year old and the doors and tyres came off etc. I lost the cones and signs and that was that. I still have the Range Rover in its battered condition and would love to restore it like this.

Well the font is you used is Verdana, which is not quite right. There is a free version of Transport Grotesk, which would be the right one for the blue signs and “Accident Unit”. For “Police” you could try AvantGarde. This font was new in the 70s, so makes perfect sense they used it.

I had the fire brigade variant of this model. A hose reel was in the back(?). Like a vacuum cleaner lead you could pull it out and it stayed then a second pull would reel it back in. Until the day I took it apart and put it back together again....

Nice work Paul. I have the 1960s one, and Ford Zodiac and mini, all in good condition. Bought in the 1980s for about £3 each.
