Dionne is devine. Gifted beyond explanation. Yet sadly underrated compared to some of her contemporaries. In her prime she could blow the roof off. I'll forever be a fan although this was not of my generation.
This is a fantastic clip! - One of Dionne's first performances in Europe was in Belgium 10 years earlier - your can find it on YT - and this is the same setup, minimal rock band musical backup - unlike full symphony orchestra Dionne so ofter has - and singing her original set of what were basically standard "do-wap" tunes but taken to an absolutely operatic level by Dionne the Divine (as quipped by someone else in these comments - also, if I'm not mistaken, I'm pretty sure that's Joan Baez that the camera switches to occasionally and, I think, George Harrison with her (hard to tell tho, every at that time looked like George Harrison, lol :-) - thx so much for posting, this is a classic!
People forget or don't understand how well regarded Dionne was as talent for the vast majority of her career. Darlene Love who worked for Dionne for more than a decade, stated that other stars would flock to her shows.
The clips of Baez's performance on this show are also on RU-vid (under Joan Baez Paris 1973), including a gorgeous version of "Let it Be". She was obviously a big Dionne Warwick fan, given how much she seemed to be enjoying Dionne's songs here.
