Every time I hear this song it takes me back to 1979 -80 when my buddies parents would go away for the weekend we would party at his house on Saturday nights, clean the house on Sunday morning, it seemed like his mom and dad never knew the difference, he passed away at 21 in 1984 in an accident and now at 56 I often wonder what might have been and I still miss my friend.
What a heartbreak. I can't imagine losing someone so close at an early age. Yes, this too brings back so many memories of good times long past. God Bless.
my parents past away years ago, but everytime I hear a Dire Straits song.. It takes me back home.. my dad in his fav chair, my mom busy in the house.. Thanks DS for all the good memories!
@@mickyfloyd it's all changed so much, all the places and people which I knew are gone. West End very expensive tourist traps. I'm happily retired in a small fishing town in Devon. Bliss.
I can think of no other guitarist other than Hendrix to completely graft a Stratocaster to their bodies and effortlessly make it a vessel of pure expression.
Wow. Blown away. Absolutely beautiful. I truly love Mark Knopfler, every time I hear a new song I fall in love. His diversity with composition is astounding, one which is rarely challenged. There are many great artists and bands, but a lot of them have 'a sound', yet Mark has broken that tradition by being able to create a different style for everything he makes while still adding a very unique and personal flair. He will always be in my top 5. This song is no exception.
IntrepidRacer13 Yup. This one is for Julie... tough life, came out mostly unscathed.. always searching for that partner that would give her happiness. It was inside herself the whole time. Mirrors are beautiful in that sense.
Intrepid, I can relate to your emotion here, I have it too. I think it comes from the simple fact that Mark Knopfler is criminally underrecognized, and underrated.
When we look back at it, I believe Mark Knopfler will have contributed more to squeezing out and exposing almost every possible nuance the Fender Stratocaster had to offer.
0:23 and 0:50 that warm Mark Knopfler tone to set the mood. What follows up is a dazzling heart warming poetry of the highest order twined with this red Fender Strat. Chills. Absolute chills.
Jeez I had forgotten how great this song is. Bought the LP in '79 and "discovered" this gem and the over the years forgot about it. Just love this live performance, Mark makes his guitar sigh, moan and pop and makes it all look so easy. I don't think anyone can play it better but I would like to hear John Mayer try his hand at it.
For sure, the pureness of the Stratocaster sound award goes to Mark Knopfler... Hendrix did it beautifully as well, but he had the rare deft touch with distortion and the almost endless amounts of sounds he eeked out of that thing!
What an amazing musician.🔥 I’m 18 now and I only listening to Mark and his band. The music nowadays can’t reach the music between the 70-90’s. My dream is to go to an concert of Mark!🙏🏼🙏🏼
Yeah this is just great, raw and totally vibing out of the walls. Mark and his guitar are the greatest double act in modern music. Loving the 3 part harmonies too.
i love in the beginning when Mark is just improving for a little while, then David jumps in and mark tells him to be quiet. that is the perfect example of their relationship.
I was born in ‘79 but I love DS, MK, and this song in particular so much it makes me wish I could have been of age to experience this time. These guys make me proud to be from our otherwise disappointing time.
Knopfler is a virtuoso talent. Every time I see this video I’m stunned to watch how he transforms as the song begins. It’s like watching a fish in water. The man was born to do it!
When I hear this song intakes me back to when me n my husband first got together an we would be having a few w/ my late brothers-in-law And my sisters in-law, that summer night air. There's something about this song that makes me feel NINETEEN FOR A WHILE! Thanks for the memories that was the Best times w/ Our family. +DLR 1987-2010
Worked shift work through my 20’s so I could study.. for over 4 years I only every 3rd Sunday off.. I would wake up grab a coffee and listen to their and New York City Serenade by Springsteen.. the memories of that time are still vivid and Oxfam the cherished 3rd Sunday morning
This came out just as i became old enough to go into London on my own and explore. It was a grittier seedier place back then - still is in many ways of course but - when i go now I feel and see the difference. This song at the time was a perfect soundtrack to my explorations.
DogSwede1. You rock! Thank's again. That Duet singing by David & Mark is sooo beautiful. Davids album "Acoustic" is very very good. He and Harry Bogdows are a great team.
