DiResta Wood Boxes

As a kid, my grandfather used wood cottage cheese boxes for random parts in the shop, he had 60-70 of them! Unfortunately, they are lost to time… I always wanted the same, but those wood boxes hard to find… so I made 40 3" x 3" x 12" wood boxes.
I did some research and discovered a few methods used to make the original wood boxes in batches. I updated some of the techniques along the way.
I used my Shopbot to handle the wood joinery and the Full Spectrum laser to do the branding ... Originally I was going to use the printing press, but the hard maple that I used to make the boxes was not soft enough to letter press. Also, I wanted the branding to be deep for the sanding stage. So I ended up only branding 12 of the wood boxes because of time.
Thank you

My grandfather worked in the Walworth wrench foundry in South Boston in the late 40's, early 50's. They used to ship the wrenches in finger jointed boxes like these. However, the bottoms were fitted inside and no nails or screws were used. I have four of the boxes and they are still solid in spite of being over 60 years old. Excellent job on these boxes.

My shop has many utility boxes of the same design as these, less all the laser touches. They were made by my dad long before CNC type machines were even dreamt of. He did all the cuts on the table saw. And they are still doing their jobs just fine after all these years. His were patterned after Kraft cheese boxes (which I also still have).

...everybody that’s concerned about my tablesaw etiquette first remember this is a saw stop and if my hand touch the blade machine will shut off secondly I’ve been using a tablesaw since I was about 10 years old that makes 45 years of me using a tablesaw with that comes confidence in using a tool. And thirdly the reason I had the blade come halfway up so that it would be out of my way.. I would almost have to go out of my way to touch the blade ..and if I did it would shut off because it’s a saw stop. if you’re sacred to watch me use a tablesaw..stop watching race car driving stop watching people on motorcycles stop watching kids on skateboards football and motocross and surfing. And skiing I think you get the point

Ro Rebbel he does it in this one. Sometimes it can be difficult to glue and screw/nail at the same time. If you glue things together and let them set then it is much easier to screw/nail and a lot more accurate. A lot of the time it has help me, try it, if it doesn’t help don’t do it anymore All the best

@rebbel67 4 года назад
@@dougdavis8367 Thank you for explaining, I got it now! I guess one would have to be not too sloppy with putting the glued workpieces away. That's where I was a bit confused. You would have to be pretty accurate, to not get almost set up glue and be off (before nailing/screwing). Thanks again!
