btw, absolutely love your videos. I love watching you just rip through a transmission regardless of what it is knowing every corner, every ball, every gasket. Its just insane the extent of your transmission knowledge. Huge fan. Keep up the great work.
Great vid .....Just done one of these , exact same case . With that steel plate it looks like you are blocking the vent passage to the extension housing. When I looked to it more it was said is using a solid rear support or plate it must be drilled for a vent. The later Reid cases have the case milled so vent connects down lower different to these early ones That 5/32 vent passage goes to a cavity and that plate with no hole blocks it off. The "Race" gasket in a set has a 1/4" hole
I'm always amazed on how you can do that all day long and know everything about all the different kinds of transmission. I'm glad you both are feeling better, keep up the great work.
Old friend of mine told me once he was doing a weekend at National Guard at Camp Atterbury in Indiana and a driver got 6x6 Truck stuck out in the woods and driver blew up clutch trying to get it out and some parts blew through floorboard into the Cab. He was riding shotgun. They had to get a road grader to pull it out.
Another great video. You can tell the transmission is very clean inside and obviously, very well built for the amount if power put through it. I’d like to know what you find Richard. Very interesting. Great camera work Teresa!!
Love watching your videos. Learning alot. My dads trans in his tahoe went out 4l60e. Grinding when put in gear. Wondering if its worth rebuilding myself or just buying a rebuilt or having someone rebuild it
Don't be embarrassed about a tech glitch. I've tested equipment on set up, used fresh batteries and lost audio more than once. I learned that an auxiliary sound does give you at least something to work with. I couldn't ask for full pay but even if I had great video and so so sound, most people were happy to have that. Mostly I gave the footage for free at that point some customers still gave me something because they realized that the full effort was there but sometimes things ( you know what) happens. I enjoy your combined efforts and content no matter what. A glitch is a glitch😳
And to think, all those years ago in 1970 I was driving my parents '67 Impala Fastback, 283 with a Glide.....I was using a racing trans. LOL I'll be interested if you find the cause of the whine.
Talk about over-designed. The Powerglide transmission was released in 1950 for Chevrolet. 90 BHP Stovebolt six, and power peak at less than 4,000 revs/min. Yes, every piece in Dirty Bird has been upgraded, but a 1950s transmission mechanic would be at home working on it. Maybe the trans brake would throw the 1950 guy. “What the hell? Why would they rig this thing to lock into first and reverse simultaneously???”
My dads 67 Chevy had one of those trannys, when he sold the car back in 2000 he had allot of people wanting it just for the transmission, the car needed allot of body work, it was an original transplant from the salty waters of west coast Florida where it started its life out when it was new and ended up in north Ga. Not sure what happened to it after he sold it, hoping it’s sitting somewhere fully restored, the car had no rear seat belts lol he said it was optional back then and cost more as an option when you bought the car new.
Do you do trans removal as well or does the transmission you work on need to be removed before bringing it to your shop? Im sure pricing varies but is there any way you can give an average range of what it cost to have a trans rebuilt through you? I have a 46RE that Im going to have to get rebuilt and Id like for you to do it if possible.
