Thank you for the great video!! When you are in the second church, just to say that at the end of the Romans, the Visigoths arrived to Spain (Hispania) in 415 AD and they reigned until 711 AD, when the first Muslim invasion arrived. Toledo was reconquered by the Christians in 1085 AD
Toledo is also known as "the Imperial City" because it was the capital of the Spanish Empire until it was moved to Madrid in 1561. Toledo is one of the most beautiful medieval cities in Europe, whose historic center has been practically unchanged since the 15th century, and it's perhaps the most unknown medieval town in Europe. History is breathed in every street, in every square, in every corner. It is the Rome of Spain.
That is how the world should be! Different race, different religion, different cultures lived peacefully together! Epic! Both of you have a good time yeah!
I'm sorry but it's marketing, it's an invention for foreigners. The reality: each religion had its neighborhood, and they were not the same, in Muslim cities Muslims had more rights and there were taxes for others. There were wars and no peaceful coexistence. There was even a hitler of the time, Almanzor. The harems were Christian women and girls spoils of war. In short, it is commercial propaganda about the 3 cultures
@@marmon8412 no doubt about your facts above. But we are looking at a 1300 year history in which there was a period of peace. But youre right, it wasnt always peaceful.
@@marmon8412 that is not true, you should dig a bit about the muslims, jewish and christians in cities like Cordoba and Sevilla, the coexistence was pacific as well as the improvement in science, I wish it woukd be like it these days.
@@ElCuervodeSanlo Jewish massacre of granada 1066. In Muslim era Spain was a disaster. After the reconquista the Spanish kings were shocked to see how low developed the south was. They made it the richest region in Europe when they discovered Caribbean.
This seems to be a very interesting place, I hope I can visit sometime in the future. Seeing and sharing places like this is why I love traveling and make videos so much! And please keep up the great job! Subscribed!!
Gidday Hartley! Thanks for the feedback I (Matt) was so excited going here. As a history nerd everything about the city amazed me. I thought maybe I went a little to "doco"/"informative" on the vlog and went away from our usual light hearted videos. But im so glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching it 😊
Another great video with incredible information. Good job done. I noticed the bridges behind you toward the end. Are they also historically significant? You know? I missed the bloopers that you usually do at the end of the vlogs. So much fun. Hahaha!!! Looking forward to more of your Spanish adventure. Cheers!!!
Hey Adam 😊. We did know they were significant. Its hard to keep our edits to a reasonable time length. Hence why we had to cut out some facts, like the one about the bridges. Its also why we have ditched the bloopers for the Spain series! But they will be back! Thanks for watching 👍😊
The information in your videos is fantastic! I never knew half of these facts!! Toledo has been on my list for a while, looks like a great place for a day trip! You guys travel like me..see as much as you can in a place in 1 day haha! Another great vlog! 💙
Yes we are alike in that respect! Love filling our days with as much as we can. Its a great day trip from Spain. Just so much history in one city! Its mind blowing!
I like very much the way you touch the walls. I been pretty doing the same since a long time. Her pronunciation saying Toledo it's been very good. Congratulations for your trip.
I’m not Spanish but I grew speaking both English and Spanish… that said, it would be mean for me to say who was right, Ash, with their pronunciation of San Juan de los Reyes. 😆 To be fair, both of you had said a lot of things right. You guys crack me up… Ash travels by taste and Matt travels by history. 😂 The perfect combo
@@valaphag6545 yeh day tickets work. From memory we booked the train tickets online. You should get the tourist pass too which will allow you to get into the museums
Toledo, first of all was a Roman settlement called Toletum, later was established by the Visigothic Court that with the Arab domination had to be moved to Narbonne (South of France). During Alfonse the X The wise, the three cultures could live together and this monarch started translating with his school of translators of Toledo the Bible into Arabic and Hebrew. The Coram Into Latin and Hebrew and all the different religious books. Finally, in the sixteenth century the first uprising of trade unions (For the first time in history) of the Comuneros with their leaders Padilla, Bravo and Maldonado advocating for the rights of smiths, shoemakers, sword makers and other trade unions were defeated by the emperor Charles V in the battle of Villalar in 1521 and the three leaders were executed.. Nowadays in Toledo it is said that the spirits of the three ghosts of the Comuneros leaders still roam the city. Finally the episode of the defense of the Alcazar with the General Moscardo during the Spanish Civil war was the last historical event that shaped the city in what it is today.
