The Earl and Countess of Sandwich are so enduring, Thank You both for taking the time to share your treasures and memories with us. You have a stunning home.
I find them absolutely darling. They walk through their home, as if they visit a museum. With respect. They describe their own possessions with awe and admiration. What charming people. No doubt it has been uplifting to have them as parents in law.
It was lovely to hear the Earl and Countess of Sandwich telling of the history of objects; it shows the family relationships to the things - not just decoration, but historical items with a link to the living generations.
Such a plesant walk through your home at Mapperton with the Earl and Countess, your "Mater and Pater". They move through their recollecting with a great love ,respect and admiration for the things they stewart . They travel in the different era's in the timeship of their shared memory of stories told and retold down through the age's.Only their unique upbringing and background could produce this video gold. Memory is the place where our past days lie. When they talk about Ann Boyle or Charles the Fifth ,its like the characters have stepped out of the room. They slip into speaking Latin and misplaces letters on the China with the love and humour only they could have. You just can't write this stuff. Just roll the camera and stay in focus. They've got it.
They seem like such sweet people. I would be a nervous wreck thinking about meeting an earl or duke or whatever but after seeing them in the videos on this channel they seem very approachable and the same as everyday people. But what a life and a legacy they have to live, I am sure it can get overwhelming.
Why ? They are just people with a fortunate accident of birth that gives them a ‘title’ , but they are exactly the same as you or I . I like them both , I’d have a cup of tea with them no problem .
Thank you again for sharing your lovely home and all the interesting history. I quite liked the portrait of Luke, since it shows just how similar he and Nestor look
I fall in love with the Countess every time I watch her! Her views on French and English clocks are most enlightening! The portrait of the lady on Alberta's right is incredible! It dates to the 1860s and her name was Lady Agneta Harriet Yorke and she was apparently one of Queen Alexandra's bridesmaids!
Non, non, non. There is absolutly nothing wrong with French clocks. They might not work properly abroad as they get home sick, that's it. And I ain't sure English people know how to make them work, at all... C'est aussi simple que ça...
The Earl and Countess of Sandwich are an encyclopedia! I really enjoy their videos. I learn so much from them (from all of you). It is AWESOME to see pictures of the "younger" generations too! Lovely!
Mapperton truly is a beautiful home, and blessed to be so well cared for. I love when the Earl and Countess give us tours with all the details. What a resource, and how wonderful it can be preserved.
EVERYTHING JULIE TOUCHES TURNS TO "GOLD," truly adored by many. It's an honor to hear the history of the Earl and Countess of Sandwich. Thank you. Excitedly waiting for its begin. I would adore seeing in person yet, this is next best thing.
Magnificent! I love listening to the countess tell the history of Mapperton and all it’s fine contents. It’s amazing how much she knows, retains and passes forward. My mother always said the key to happiness is appreciating what you have. She is the living embodiment of this sentiment. Thank you!
Hearing about and seeing centuries of the history of the family, Britain, and truly the world, from the earl and countess as they invite us into their lives and their home is such a gift to those of us who are interested in and value all who came before us. Their personalities, finishing each other’s sentences, and their wry humor really flavor the story! Having heard about some of the paintings, house details and events a few times now, the house will seem very familiar if I ever get to visit in person.
Fascinating! The Earl and Countess of Sandwich introduction to the hall and portraits remind me of a specific well-loved family member who knew the history and all the family members in all the portraits/photos.
Soooo funny. The drip off the nose on the cieling. "Grim". So grateful to have been away in London. Genuinely nice people. Informative, honest, humorous and complimentary. To run a B and B section connected to the house... It would be delightful.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with the world. The Countess and Earl are amazing with such wonderful commentary about the history of everything!
Thank you, Lord and Lady Montigus for an interesting tour. I didn’t see any current residents portraits save for your cameraman and son, the second Earl. Wonderful paintings.👋🏼😊
Thanks for that very interesting tour of the entrance, the staircase, the paintings & the drawing room. Some amazing artwork through out those areas. Loved the story about Louisa the marble bust! Luc, you look like your father! Again, appreciate your time showing us(rest of the public) your amazing home & sharing all the details.
I watched this live on my phone but when I got home, I put this on the TV. My goodness, everything was so beautiful. The paintings were wonderful, even Luke’s.
Wonderful video!! I love learning the history of the house with Count and Countess!! Both are so interesting. They bring the house to life beautifully! Love from Vermont
Enchanting! Thank you for your time and hard work in preserving this awesome treasure. Your knowledge is the glue that keeps it all together. Truly blessed!
I just watched an episode of Downton Abbey where Lady Mary comments to her than fiancé as they tour an empty house. “Your kind buys furniture, my kind inherits it.
Such a stunningly beautiful house, each room a treasure in its own right. The classical Staircase Hall with carved handrail, panelling & carved details, fine furniture and historic family portraits is so charming. The drawing room is also a gem ~ I love the marriage between historical objects and practical comfort, with all of those subtle toning colours in furniture tapestries and paintings. What the astute Countess had to say about the difference between English and French clocks made me smile so much ~ I wholeheartedly agree with her conclusion!
Your dad is charming and your mom is direct and has such a good sense of humor. Cant beat that for a winning combination. The history of the house and furnishing is fastening. Do they have complete inventories made over the years to reference from so if the run across something that they have no idea where if came from they can find out? Do you have any complete mystery paintings decor or furnishings?
Thank you for a lovely video. I really enjoy watching and listening to the Earl and Countess very much. Thank you for sharing you home and story with us.
Writing in on my husband’s account, I’m a Registered Nurse and I’m concerned for the Earl’s breathing . Hope he has regular checks with his GP , I’m sure he does .
Wonderful Family History. Love The Painting of the Ships ⚓, Samuel Scott's My Grand Uncle was "Bosen" in The Royal Navy, first world war, Head of "Landing Crew" and won The Silver Cross for his Service.
Love the stories of Mapperton. They such a sweet and charming couple. I must confess being an American living in the high Rocky Mountains of Colorado, please tell me, what is a drawing room? 🙃
Hi. I was reading about the Montagu family, and I saw that the family seat was originally Hinchingbrooke House. I understand that this house was sold and the family seat became Mapperton House which had only been in the family's possession for less than 100 years. Is it possible to share any information about that decision?
The dear Earl of Sandwich is having difficulty breathing. Please do not neglect this condition. So many treatments and medications may very well give great relief of symptoms. ❤️
If Mapperton's council or committee, gave me nice clean, lodgings, 2 meals per diem, a light late noon snack with tea, I'd clean the ship for nothing using thin natural brushes and compressed air (set at lowest pressure). They would have to also provide business class flight round trip from the US. If that is less than what they would pay a professional conservationists, it might be worth it to them. I could work 16 hours sitting on the floor with a pillow.
I'm most likely a descendant of his and an artist. My cousin did our Richardson side of the family tree. He told me we had a famous British artist as our ancestor. (He also studied art.) And Julie, our Richardson family started out in Chicago. :)
While I love all the history, paintings, swirly things on the ceilings etc I’m so very sorry, I just couldn’t live there. I need MY types of paintings, my color choices etc otherwise I’d just go made. I hate those paintings.,,,,,,with due respect. Just call me crazy from Canada. 🇨🇦
As for Anne "Ninon" de Lenclos, a real libertine, she was known as "Notre-Dame des Amours". On her 77th birthday, she invited an Abbé to share her bed...
It's not a house. It's a museum. A word about Hortense Mancini, Duchesse de Mazarin, sister of Marie. They were said to have been loved by Louis XIV (whatever love means)... But too down stairs girls to be suitable for a crown. Loulou got upset, had some kind of diplomatic flu but the Cardinal de Mazarin insisted the King had to think like one, so He married Marie-Thérèse d'Espagne, instead.
