You've heard of the West Highland Way... Well let me introduce to you the West Island Way! Off the west coast of Scotland on the island of Bute, the WIW is around 50km although because I would start and finish in the main town of Rothesay, my day would be around 70km. A truly varied route of wide farm track, technical coastline and boggy moorland. It was another spectacular day, although whilst the sun was shining, the air temperature was only a few degrees with a minus windchill.

ah, i missed this video. fantastic. this is my favourite run. never tried it in january though! it's boggy enough in summer

Yeah I particularly liked the south of the island, the coastal parts are great! At least in summer the bog won't be quite as cold!!

@@TheRandomRunner it's relatively new. And many sections don't have an actual path on them, so a little planning is needed. But it's a great way to see the West Mainland of Orkney (and separate island of Egilsay).
