This flip was a custom project for a local client. She sent me an inspiration photo and wanted two nightstands stained dark. I suggested toning them by applying a gel stain to darken the color without a full refinish. The top on one of them had some water damage. I applied the gel stain, but it didn’t cover the damage so I had to strip that top to raw and refinish it. The other top had light scratches that were covered by the gel stain. After building up the color and allowing plenty of dry time, we finally achieved the color of the inspiration photo. To complete it, I sealed it with a matte polyurethane that really completed the transformation.
