Whether or not I agree with all of Buddhism, it is the only religion from which I have consistently heard only sensible, lovingly motivated, and sincere teaching. You might watch a video of a Christian priest shouting things at his audience, making blind assertions that don't logically follow from one another and his audience not questioning him. You might see a Muslim imam wailing in tears because he heard that someone insulted the prophet Muhammad, and thus should be killed. Methinks Buddhism to be the only religion which supports itself totally without anger, and in complete accordance with logic.

+TheLivingHeiromartyr I totally agree with you. This is just beautiful, I am glad that this great religion has been mine ever since my soul was made. Even though many people Buddha is just rubbish, I think it's absolutely beautiful. And also just to say. There was only 1 religion but everyone wanted to stand out from the rest. So this is what happened. Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist and other religions fight with each other just to stand out, to make their religion the BEST religion in the world. But there is no BEST in the world. God made us all equal.

maxtheknife bingo because all religion is created by the mighty God himself and he passed the religions that he create to his all prophets to spread it for human being to respect each other but there are some evil people trying to act as superior than god himself and all his prophets and that's why God himself and all his prophets is very angry on human beings.

I've always been in the mindset of Buddhism without labeling it. Without the clarity of having a path, it's been easy for me to get lost and as a result, wander from my road towards enlightenment. This video series is leveling me up every minute, and I cannot wait to watch them all and truly apply these teachings to my life as to benefit others.

For myself, I pray to no one. I don't pray at all. I meditate. Chanting is not praying. Chanting is a great way to calm the mind. Try it sometime, focus on your breath in a quiet place. Set a timer for 5 minutes, and watch what happens.

These determined Buddhist practitioners lead their simplest life for the spiritual enlightenment.They have fully understood that materialism in this profane world would only handicap their pursuit. . Lord Buddha was initially a prince.but still abandoned his life in the palace. Nevertheless,Buddhism does not encourage asceticism nor simply teach people renounce the world.However,to attain Transcendence of Suffering disenchantment from this very world is indispensable.

If you understand that in Tibetan Buddhism the criterion for the Maha-(Great) or Hina-(Lesser) is simply based on the magnitude(degree) of Bodhicitta (spirit of enlightenment) then all your questions are solved.This may be likened to an analogy that all parts of the body namely head, limbs, heart and organs keep on quarreling who is the most important to the body.

Neither is the lesser vehicle, whatever appeals to you more, go for that. You can find arrogance in both sects of Buddhism, Theravada Buddhist's have a purist attitude believing their sect is supreme because it's supposedly unaltered. Mahayana Buddhist's believe forming compassion first is the better way... I do believe both methods are valid paths for attaining enlightenment and I second your statement on Theravada, once they attain that state of mind, compassion does follow.

Although your last statement is odd, Mahayana ( the great vehicle ) is so named because it's the core essence or teaching of buddhism, traveling around the world. It's meant to adapt to it's surrounding. That is what Buddha taught, he never advocated a fixed way of doing things, he taught an appropriate lesson to whoever he came across. Buddhism is about seeing life as it is, then helping others do the same, there is nothing wrong with including cultural beliefs into Buddhism if it is beneficial

It is interesting that praying and blessing bear some similar implication to some point.Hence what ,whom or why buddhists pray is not important.Different sects of Buddhism may have different rituals to perform.Among them they too have different points of views some may say contradictory.The most important is that all practitioners must have their own minds transformed from negative to positive and gain peace.All kinds of teachings just try to fit all kinds of beings.

Not to spark any criticism, but Prince Siddhartha (Buddha) is not a Indian Prince, which is mentioned in 1:55. In fact, he was born in Lumbini, Nepal in “Shakya” clan. The very birthplace of Buddha still remains in Lumbini, Nepal and is one of the widely visited pilgrimages.

To reply to this assertion made by BecomingLotsawa :"Thirdly all Kangyur-teachings are the words of the Buddha, directly from Indian sources, documented and traceable." There are many texts composed in India that are not the word of the historical Buddha or his immediate disciples, such as the Abhidharma texts of all the early schools or any of the later Mahayana/Vajrayana texts. The only surviving texts which are reliably Word of the Buddha are the Vinayas, 4 Pali Nikayas and 4 Chinese Agamas and parts of the Kudukha Nikaya such as the Dhammapada, Uddana Itivutakka and Suttanipata.

I'm intrigued with how Buddhism took off in Australia, it's not exactly somewhere i would associate with the way. I do get that Aussie's are always travelling - as the saying goes last one out turn the light off - I thought maybe to do with those who served in Vietnam or Korea, those who served or worked in Japan and other Asian lands, that would make sense. If they were looking for mysticism why they didn't look at Aboriginal faiths is a question on my mind. But they have found a path and I suppose that's a good thing.

Why use the term Hīnayāna, when it is known to by used in a condescending and pejorative way? I think all who practise the Dharma/Dhamma, is aware that reaching awakening for oneself, will benefit more than oneself, and therefore this in combination is the product. Not one or the other :-) I hope not that I see the religious aspect in Buddhism fighting as seen too many other places. //Written with the best intention that I was capable of :-)
@zopaseah4982
@zopaseah4982 7 лет назад
jfauerby yes, i understand what u are saying. all who practise dharma also knows what hinayana means, why is it different from mahayana. its original intent was not to belittle those who practise the small vehicle, it is just the label used long time back. therevada is the pali version of the hinayana, also know as the elders. still, from your comments, i think u must have been a high practitioner well schooled in the three higher training. it is good if one day u can do something to improve buddhism by removing those wrong terms or word that u think is unsuitable. i look forward to the day when u benefit sentient beings on those moral high grounds u advocate.
@BecomingLotsawa
@BecomingLotsawa 11 лет назад
Just a short remark on your post. There is no such thing than looking down on Theravada in Mahayana Buddhism. In fact one breaks one's bodhisattva vow if doing so. Secondly Tibetan Buddhism is not a mixture between Buddhism and Bön, that is a common repeated misinterpretation, but very clearly shown and proven as a flaw in the early understanding of the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. Thirdly all Kangyur-teachings are the words of the Buddha, directly from Indian sources, documented and traceable.

Hi, don't know if there's still anyone reading the comments. I like and understand many of the teachings and I think they're great but I'm having a hard time comprehending certain parts of Karma. We have so much suffering in this world and there are some suffering so much more than ourselves. This is a question for Buddhists. Are you trying to tell me that all those starving and sick people in the poorest countries deserve to starve to death, suffer from sickness because of their Government? Mistreated children who suffer at the hands of other people or Government?All the suffering poor animals all over the world? Sorry, but that's where I draw the line to these teachings. We don't even remember our past lives, if we have any at all. Isn't it kind of cowardly to believe they did something to deserve this and so you don't need to bother yourselves about their suffering? Can a Buddhist enlighten me here please? I'm really at a stand still here and would like to go on with these teachings but, I can't at this point .

Why is the buddha 'reincarnated - or whatever part of us gets passed on' again and again to attain the same level of enlightenment, to spread the same message? I know if a person reaches a certain level then they get reincarnated into a human being, but when does it stop for the buddha, he seems to be stuck in a loop?
@liemtuyetofficialchannel1294
@liemtuyetofficialchannel1294 4 года назад
your question is interesting but rather silly in some way. The Buddha was just born into the royal family to be a prince for some while; I wouldn't call that he was reincarnated into this family. Before his birth to this human world he was already a buddha, perfect in every way. the reason he came to this world via freshly birth like everyone else does is to unlearn and relearn. so therefore he applies himself to a test. when he passed his test by means of attaining enlightenment and became the buddha he used to be once again. I can't explain to you everything in words. you have to get enlightened a little yourself in order to understand what I am saying. For example if you watch a good movie you like so much that you would want to watch times again. each time you re-watch it do you ever question yourself why when you already watched it before and already knew all about it. am I making sense. if not, it means that you are not seriously interested in what I am trying to explain. I can only hope the buddha nature within yourself awaken and help you so.

Mainstream Buddhism is as befuddled as Christianity. Read the shobogenzo, and dissolve all false self, and false perception, find the Tao, Dhamma, spirit, its everywhere and animates all things, its the true essence of this universe, and the true essence of who we are. I cannot point toward the moon as sufficiently as when i point towards the inner self, the true inner self, the thoughtless awareness, is what connects us to the void, which connects us to everything and everyone.

Reincarnation doesn’t mean something else, as long as you are subject of time, then you’re subject of changes. It is simple.

Buddha's teachings matters more than his birth place.If Buddhas was alive he would have told you the same thing.Embrace the teachings.Claiming something is always unlike Buddhism.Liberate yourself so you can let go off your ego.

Your interpretation is incorrect. Buddha is one who is enlightened. One does not pray to Buddha.

I appreciate this series but some of the interviewees talk about things just as an average American would give you sales pitch with an energy that doesn't feel right. Just my opinion.

obtaining this, reaching that... there is no real goal in buddhism. there is no path that derives from it self in the west.

Here are a few "goals" of Buddhism: develop Empathy and Compassion for others, Respect for both Living and Nonliving things(if a person can Respect an inanimate object, that person can Respect anything), develop unconditional Love, attain Enlightenment and become Buddha. I think we, All of us have a great deal of work to do!

When some Buddhist scriptures talk of "no path" and so on, they are referring to the teachings of emptiness. This means that all things are empty of inherent existence on their own right, and are only dependently arisen. It does NOT mean, however, that they are totally nonexistent in a nihilistic way.

Budduism is just kind of philosophy combined with paganism or idolatry, which is of no value or even damage the way to true God and God' salvation.
