I’m sad you didn’t listen to NU ABO or RED LIGHT and Chu those are their most experimentally strong songs!

Their Pink Tape album, wherein Rum Pum Pum Pum was the title track, was legendary. Probably the most cohesive album I've ever encountered.

Hearing 4walls made me feel emotional. Almost 9 years later and this song is still an undeniable bop , the girls deserved so much better yet not only SM but also the korean public listeners messed them up so bad that the company didn't know what to do with them anymore , i still hope that they will be making a comeback one day despite it being impossible probably. F(x) were ahead of their time.

I agree they're really unconventional even at that times. I think they probably are the blueprint of 4th gen kpop, the experimentalism, the choreo, even the visual sometimes reminds me of f(x). And they pretty much changed they way idol sell songs with their albums, bcs back then kpop used to only sell singles and EP. So I recommend you to listen to their albums, especially the last three, Pink Tape, Red Light and 4 Walls. The live performance to 4 Walls is really cool too. Thank you so much for this

You're so gonna love the true K-Pop Queen that is Pink Tape. Miss Min Heejin definitely squeezed her brain out to bring that concept to life. Reminiscent actually of what she did with NewJeans's merchs. She did that retro thingy with the album where she made a bag that fit a CD Player for NJS, just like how the Pink Tape album and made it look like a pink VHS tape. So fackin cool.

I second the person in the comments about the 4 walls live performance. Only found out that there was choreography to it this year and it’s AMAZING. Sm did them so dirty during this comeback.. they should’ve had a performance vid to accompany it.

Still might be my ult girl group. I especially love their last three Albums. ‘The Pink Tape’ is kinda legendary as a comeback and album. The album packaging is amazing, one of the trailers is a 2 min art film, and the photo book feels more like an art book. Of course the music is pretty great too. Min heejin (I think that’s her name) talking about it is really interesting. Their albums just kep getting better after this in my opinion. f(x) we’re pioneers in so many ways and just quality. Good dancers, interesting choreo to match their interesting music. Challenging songs to sing in terms of harmonies and how the melody fit. Krystal and Luna are the two you will hear singing the most runs and belts. - Krystal has the red hair in Rum-pum-pum. She also probably has the most screen time. - Luna is the one you noticed dancing a few times. She is an amazing vocalist and great dancer. Luna did her solo debut stage at Paris Kcon, she was so good. Victoria is the leader, she is Chinese and a very successful actor. She is ridiculously flexible. She is the oldest and tends to be styled the most mature? - Sulli tends to be styled more cute? I am trying to think of ways to recognize them that is true across comebacks

Thanks to 4 Walls View by SHINee had a chart comeback, because they're kind of similar. The 4 Walls album was a masterpiece and sadly their last album.

Legendary group that forged the alternative/experimental SM style. Influence that can be seen in groups like NCT, aespa, Red Velvet and Billlie (wich is tecnically sm's)

f(x)'s 4 Walls & SHINee's View are both produced by LDN Noise and were considered K-pop's first foray into deep house & UK garage. No wonder when they first came out I felt a sense of familiarity. It kinda took me back to my younger clubbing days LOL Also, both songs share a similar MV aesthetics with View being brighter & 4 Walls being darker, which I feel in line with each song's ambience

pink tape, red light, and 4 walls albums are still my top fave kpop albums of all the time. regarding the production of rum pum pum pum, this was around the time SM started working with a lot of swedish producers and f(x) are the ones who got a lot of those tracks too.. ig it's bcos f(x) really fits with swedish producers since they do a lot of electronic sounds not to mention they're experimental with their concepts and sound.

I once saw a tweet about how all kpop ggs stem from either snsd, 2ne1, or fx pipeline and I agree. I love when people react to fx because they often get written out of SM's greatest groups which is unfair considering how obvious their influence has been on some of the newer sounds. Their song "When I'm alone" is the first kpop song I heard, and I was fascinated partly because it was supposed to be a Carly Rae Jepsen b-side but also because the lyrics were pretty cool for the time and the industry. Rum Pum Pum Pum is written from the perspective of a wisdom tooth and 4 walls is about restructuring as 4 after Sulli left the group. So it's safe to say they really cared about doing something uncoventional. Min Hee Jin who is now the creator of newjeans worked extensively with fx while she was at SM. Their pink tape art film is a very good example.

4Walls truly ahead of its time!! they released it when people weren't used to the genre and years after groups be releasing left and right electro pop/house songs

you should definitely watch 4walls' choreography at some point!. it's more mature and sensual than their other choreos, and it has elements of voguing/tutting in it. 4walls also came out in 2015 a few months after shinee released view, and those two songs are really what helped introduce the house genre to kpop.

Yay!! Still one of my favorite group!!❤ I got into K-pop because of their music. Their Pink Tape album has one of the best b side songs. Their approach to different types of music was refreshing at the time. When being different was not really “approved”. Btw Luna just debuted on Broadway on the musical “K-pop”. She is one of the best K-pop vocalist. You should see her in immortal songs. And there is a cover of an old song that both Amber and Luna that is really good.

Both Krystal and her sister Jessica (snsd) are great singers

Honestly, f(x) were debuted way too soon. Kpop was not ready for this type of sound before. Their songs did not sound outdated even now in 2023

I used to be so obsessed with f(x) when I was 14-18 omg... I had the biggest crush on Amber too, but unfortunately she turned out to be a terrible person. MeU (the fandom) called her out on the racism and she threw a fit and literally said "fuck yall" and tried to give some lame excuse that she's been living in Korea too long, so she doesn't fully understand racism... like girl, you were literally born and raised in LA and are still currently living in LA... come on now. I also had the misfortune of meeting her out in public a few times. literally anxiety every time I'm in the city cuz I don't wanna run into her ever again.
