This is the first in a series of videos where I will discuss how I finally figured out that Statins are dangerous drugs and cause more harm than good.
In this video, I discuss what was happening to me in my 50s and the first clue I had that something was amiss with these drugs.

My mom was given statins for high cholesterol 35 years ago. She didn’t like them and stopped them quickly. She is now in her 80's, still has sky high cholesterol, smokes a pack a day, and has never a heart attack.

Good example of how everyone is different, yet the standards of care would have us all on the same regimen.

@@btudrusThey put sugar in everything food in this country is toxic. Most are becoming more aware some are a bit slower at getting things the foods in other countries do not add the things in U.S. and even banned some our foods. Also medications have bad side effects.

Thanks for your support! I've been thinking about this for years, trying to find a vehicle for providing a mutual support mechanism for statin victims. Our doctors denying our symptoms, and treating statins like they are more helpful than harmful is very disheartening. I know they have a very difficult profession - human bodies are very complex - but these things just aren't right for me, at least.

I really appreciate you making these videos. I am attempting to become well informed on this issue, having been told I should take a statin, which I suspect is a statistical, not analytical recommendation.

Did you actually have these events? If so, chances are higher that statins could help a bit, it's very hard in your situation to decide if it is worth it. At the very least, talk to your doctor about adjusting doses. (Though I see from your other post that it will take a while to see your doctor.) So sorry to hear.

my experience is statin lowered the numbers but degraded your quality of living by its side effects😅 what that means is you have the good numbers to keep you believe you are more safe (lower risk factor) but you don't actually feel good in your body,

A great way of putting. I definitely didn't feel good in my own body.

I was told the minimum does is 10 mg. It made me nauseous so I cut the pill in half for a few days, then went back to 10. Fell down in the middle of the night, it made my internal hemorrhoids bleed. I was taking 80 mg of aspirin also and I'm sure that didn' help with the bleeding, I stopped both. 3 years later I was given an Rx for thrush which I wasn't sure. I had. It was Nystatin. I wondered about that, but thought oh just a tiny bit of statin. Well afters 3 pills my hemorrhoids bled. The end of that medication. I'll be 77 soon and living longer and better with out the statins. My numbers weren't excessive anyway. By the way, bleeding was the very last possible side effect in the list. I also was taking lisinopril for high blood pressure. I was prescribed a different one after years of the dry tickling cough in the back of my throat. Losartin has stopped the cough.

Thanks for sharing. It seems like you are extremely intolerant of statins. And sometimes we're offered alternatives that start at much lower doses, like pitavastatin which does start at 2 mg I believe (msybe even 1 mg.) But we shouldn't be fooled, the doses for different statins aren't equivalent. 2 mg of pitavastatin (often marketed ss Livalo) is just as bad as 10 mg of Lipitor (atorvastatin.) So maybe that other prescription you were given was one of those statins where a low dose is just as bad.

I had a “silent heartache” 7 months after having COVID in Cuba (March 2020) and receiving a cornucopia of drugs. Hydroxychloroquine - interferon B various other meds that were used to treat HIV etc. When I had the heart attack which symptoms of shortness of breath but no chest pain. My cholesterol level was normal. I was in good health active cyclist and my weight was good (66 years old) I had an angiogram with a borderline blockage and as the cardiologist said “since we are in there I’m going to out in two stents!” My cardiologist then put me on a statin and low dose aspirin. I questioned as to why I needed these for life especially as my cholesterol was not high. His response was in Canada the Cardiologist practice is to prescribe statins to anyone with heart disease. No discussion. I went back for a stress test and since then he has not had any follow up just provides prescription repeats. I’ve noticed since being on statins my strength is not what I’m used too. Overly tired and joint inflammation. (Could be arthritis) I’ve taken myself off statins two days ago and will follow your channel. I did inform my GP by way of an email and will follow up with blood tests but unless I see a change in my cholesterol I’m not going back on them

Seems like you're into secondary prevention (i.e. have had a Cardiovascular Event.) I get nervous about this situation - I think statins are overprescribed for primary prevention (i.e. no CVE yet) - mostly because it is very difficult to accurately identify people ahead of time who might have an event. Once you've had a heart attack, the equation is different. Obviously if you don't have high cholesterol, then the reason for being on them can't be that. Doctors I respect do suggest that there is an anti-inflammatory effect of statins and that may be why, statistically, they reduce heart attacks in high risk population. Others suggest that a low dose statin actually helps stabilize soft plaque (which is the danger - soft plaque can break off and lodge in heart or brain causing a heart attack or stroke.) That may be key. Is your statin a low dose? The advantage there is that adverse effects may be minimized. I'm no doctor of course so this isn't medical advice - but perhaps follow up with the cardiologist about what the benefits are and the reason to take them besides "that's what we do." (Sorry about the lateness of my response, as my next video (July 7) will explain, I've been on a "mission" for 5 weeks.)

Everyone is different. I started taking statins, 20 mg daily atorvastatin about 2 years ago now 79. The benefits were real and surprising. Sometimes, an ounce of prevention does not make a pound of cure.

Thank you for the reminder that in fact most people have no adverse effects. What were the benefits you experienced?
@backyardtheist4595

Will try to keep it short with just one example. For over 25 years, I have had ear aches with loud heart beats in my ears. At my age with type 2, HBP, atherosclerosis, can effect cochlear microcirculation, turbulence or decrease of blood flow in the inner ear. This can lead to arterial inflammation. What happened over about 6 months was a substantial decrease in both aching and tinnitus. After about a year, basically stopped completely. The only change I had made was the addition of the statin. It seems that statins are highly effective at reducing vascular inflammation. However, they seem to be a bit of a two-edged sword, some just can't take the side effects. I was fatigued for the first few months, but that disappeared.

@@backyardtheist4595 Thanks for sharing. I should make a video about the people who benefit - my official position is "statin hesitant", not 100% anti-statin. I can't take them (interestingly, severe earaches turned out to be just one of the adverse effects I had) but others can.

@@mystatinfreelifeI actually went through 3 tries, the third successful. The first 2 several months apart were because of unusual fatigue. However, doctors in the family, my son, in particular, given my health problems insisted that I continue. His primary explanation was that statins would reduce vascular inflammation, which he felt for me was what the real benefit would be. Seems to work.
