As I have decommissioned my Land Rover Discovery 1 V8 Rossignol Edition 2 door I have decided to make a 4x4 video to recap some trails and obstacles that I have done over the years.
It was a hard decision to let go of the Discovery 1 and took over a year of procrastinating to come to it. Although I have the Land Rover 110 County (Defender) which is a very capable offroad vehicle the decision was hard as the Discovery 1 was a different beast that is fun in its own way.
This 4x4 video is compiled from various locations around Sydney Australia, normally within a 2-3 hour drive. Some scenes are from Lithgow, Newcastle, Yalwal, Menai, Nepean amongst other locations.
In this LROR video the Land Rover Discovery is featured with mostly the same modification but with various tyres. In some scenes it is on 33 inch BFGoodrich KM2 mud terrains, 35 inch Toyo Open Country Mud Terrains and 35 inch Maxxis Creepy Crawlers on beadlock steel wheels.
Alongside a list of HD upgrades some modifications are
3 inch Dobinsons flexy coils retained rears and dislocating fronts
+5 shocks
Cranked trailing arms (rear lower control arms)
Superior Engineering Superflex Arms
Twin locked with ARB Air Lockers
4.43 Great Basin Rovers Utah (GBR) C&P diff gears
We wish you all a safe and happy Christmas and hope you enjoy this video as much as we have enjoyed the years of 4x4 fun with the Land Rover Discovery 1 V8 Rossignol Edition.

Thanks man. They are top fun and 2 door Rossignols are easy to mod to accept big tyres. Patrols are drivetrains are tough as they get. With the Disco be prepared to go chromo axles if locking the diffs or going bigger tyres. All the best with it mate 👍

Great video and merry Christmas! I've always enjoyed watching this twin-locked Disco. Your videos have always been a perfect answer to a common question (or statement): does a LR Disco really need axle diff-locks? Many people have tried to convince me, that it doesn't. But I know it makes a great difference having locked all diffs.

I wanted a diesel disco or defender but nothing beats the sound of the v8. This one definitely sounds straight piped/headers or completely aftermarket. Mine nearly sounds this good lol we need cats here in va unfortunately. How did it do on wheel bearings with the taller tires?

Love the 2 door d1. Quick question i noticed that in some parts it had 6 stud wheels on. Are you using adaptors or did it have a diff swap?
@lror
@lror 6 лет назад
Daniel Angus Its from various times over a 3-4 year period so sometimes on 33s-35s etc. Adapters were used for the beadlock rims.

Very nicely tucked in bumpers…who built those?
@lror
@lror 2 года назад
The front bar is a TJM Disco 1 unit while the rear is an ARB RRC rear bar that i modified to fit up and tuck right in. Tbh it would have been easier to make it entirely from scratch.

Merry Christmas! I would like to ask a couple of questions about your setup.. 1) With all the articulation did the vehicle have any issues with the driveshafts/propshafts that were directly connected to it's increased articulation, such as early wear or failures? 2) If the answer is yes to any of the above, did you find any solutions to any problems you may have had? 3) why retain the rear springs but let the front dislocate? I assume you have a purpose for such a setup. I can see by the video your an excellent off road driver, so my question is one of respectful curiosity.. You didn't say why you were retiring the Discovery, I hope it wasn't destroyed in a roll over or some similar catastrophe. Sorry I tend to go on a bit..lol Thank you Great videos as usuall
@lror
@lror 6 лет назад
john Kemple Thanks for the comment and im glad you liked it. No it wasnt destroyed but since building the 110 i didnt really use the disco much and it was looking sad just sitting. I didnt have any problems with drive shafts and just greased them every trip or 2. I was running wide angle prop up front and a wide angle ball joint on the rear A-frame. I tried many combinations of retained/unretained and found by retaining the rear i had the front working much more which gave me a more balanced setup. Hope this answers some of your questions and we wish you and your loved ones a great Christmas and new year 👍

6 stud rims on the landy? Is it possible to get some info on that?( looking at putting patrol diffs under my three door)
@lror

Patrol diffs would be a good upgrade but make sure you go GU front as a GQ has about the same size cv's as land rover
@dexter_2289
@dexter_2289 5 лет назад

@lror
@lror 5 лет назад
3inch dobinsons progressive coils, cranked rear arms, superflex radius arms. Tyres in the vid are a mix of km2 33", toyo 35", creepy crawlers 35"

LROR Land Rovers Off Road that's pretty cool, what kind of power and torque did they build, I might have another bucket list engine to build haha
@lror
@lror 6 лет назад
dakota beardall haha very little power and torque tbh. I wouldnt recomend it as a base platform for a build, there are plenty of better options to start with.
@joshyddog2054
@joshyddog2054 2 года назад
Did the D1 do fine running the 33s with enough power/ weight? Looking at getting one Im just worried about the power for the build I want to do with steel bumpers also.
@lror
@lror 2 года назад
On 33s it did 95% of trails that it did on 35s. The advantage of smaller diff on a discovery means that 33s give almost as much diff pumpkin clearance as 35s on other rigs. Unless your doing steep muddy climbs that require lots of right foot i wouldn't worry about power, id be more worried about drive train strength more than anything else. Swap out axle shafts to hd units as a minimum. Depending on the stuff you'll do you want to look at changing out crown and pinions to something stronger as well.
