I had exactly the same problem - a 2017 DS where the RH strut seized half way. Not great when your are in a rush to get somewhere. The advice to easily remove the strut and chop the wires got me out of trouble. Then this video to refit new ones worked a treat and was surprisingly easy. It took the whole tailgate cover off which was straightforward and good for if doing both struts. Got genuine parts from LR Parts.
What a great "how to" video - changed both struts in less than 45 mins on my 2015 Disco Sport HSE. Only comment I'd make is that be careful when removing the trim because the only thing that is still connected after prying it loose is the cable to the boot opening button which if not careful could get pulled out of the socket. Easy to unclip the wiring from the socket and refit afterwards.
Just wanted to say "thank you". Simple video very easy to follow even for a novice. Well done. Took me about 20 mins to do both! And put it all back together without breaking anything. Works a treat. Only concern was getting the correct struts for a decent price, and getting the right ones!!!! Thank again.
Thanks for the video. I just fitted a new LH strut in 15 minutes. Listers Hereford wanted to charge me 2 hours labour at £350. Unbelievable! Top man Daly! 👍
Fantastic Video... Easily saved me £400. Just take it easy. Trick is to only unclip half the boot liner at a time, replacing as you complete each side. Thanks so much.
Thank you for this fantastic DIY tutorial. I am not a car expert but proceeded as described and the replacement was done so quickly. It definitely saved me a couple of bucks and it makes me proud that it really works!! GREAT TUTORIAL!
Brilliant video Thanks for this - I just cancelled my LR extended warranty. Very dissatisfied with lots of issues but especially ones which have been complained about in owners forums since 2014. eg tailgate alignment which boils down to bolts not gripping properly. you'd think easy fix but no they graciously agreed to pay 40% (after much complaining) but my end was still nearly £600. Then I discovered a you tube video showing how to adjust it in less than an hour! Thanks again PS not finding part number mentioned in first two links or even electric struts searching by car reg but eBay one OK Cheers
They are a nightmare for warranty issues 😖 .. thanks for the comments and info.. ive just tried to update my links but still no OE ones available other than from the dealers at the mo 👍
Many thanks for the simple to follow instructions. Both struts changed easily. Only issue is that mine won’t lift automatically but will close automatically! All wiring checked and ok. Any ideas?
Have you ever done a video for sorting the “SOS System Limited Functionality” message. I believe it’s a battery in the telemetrics module….or the wires have come loose! 😊 prices to diagnose faults here in Fife are shocking! Our boot needs new struts but the garage replace the button then said they haven’t a clue why the boot doesn’t work and to find out why they would have to just buy parts at our expense and see what fixes it….they said it was fixed with a new button! It wasn’t! It’s so hard to find a honest garage now! 😊
I’m going to attempt this today with my RRS. Seems like it should be the same based on the workshop manual. Just one question, do I need to take any electrical precautions prior to snipping to cord? My guess is no but figure better safe than sorry- thanks
Update: I did it. It took about an hr total. On my RRS roughly the same year as the DS pictured, the plug for the electric connection was very close to the top corner of the interior panel. I unscrewed everything as shown in the vid, but probably could have just popped out the corner by the rear window. I also never cut the wires. Just disconnect from the plug and wove it out before removing the struts. Thanks for a great video!
HI, think mine are plying up as often boot doesn't open and I've been getting a battery warning light on dash before start up. Would the battery warning light be normally also be connected to tailgate issues? battery was tested and is fine...
Thanks for this video. I would like to convert the tailgate into an electric tailgate and am looking for the right wiring harness. It's a L550 built in 2017 like the car in the video. The installed wiring harness has the Land Rover item number: LR097678, , which does not have the connections for the electric strut. What is the article number for the matching wiring harness?
ours has an issue... tailgate does open normally but it wont close by itself... at first it stopped closing electrically... i reset it by holding down the button on the tailgate... it started working again but only for a week or so... after that reset doesnt fix it anymore. Went on and replaced tailgate struts but that did not fix it. It still wont close. Any ideas tips to give me? Good knowledge on Land Rovers is hard to come by. Thanks in advance!
Hmm only had an issue once and there was a procedure to calibrate the new struts .. we thought they hadn’t fixed it to start with! I can’t quite remember but it was something to do with having it fully open then manually pulling it down just slightly , then closing and opening it on the button
Hi, I got the struts from eBay as shown in your link. Fitted fine, but the boot looks slightly twisted and will not close with the button or remote, I have to physically close it. Had this problem? (I followed the procedure of locking and unlocking the car) Cheers
Thanks for the comment, ive never had any issues tbh Andrew .. sounds like you may have a fault shocker? sometime the first shut needs to be done manually but then its ok
@@diydaly Sorted it thank you. Looked for similar issues on the LR forum. I had to reset the control box by pressing the close button till it made a continuous beep. Now works a treat! Many thanks for the vid- gave me the confidence to carry out the job👍 Broke some tailgate trim clips (the plug in ones) don’t have a link for those do you?😬
@@andrewlarkin4535 glad you got it sorted mate! lol no I havent im afraid, its easily done! I had to order some from LR last time but I didnt make a note of the part number!
What’s the symptoms of this issue? We have had our 2015 one into the landrover franchise a few times and they just swooped the button!! Ours will Open fine but beep and not go down - sometimes it’s fine for ages ohers it will stop going down but when you manually close it it will draw it in and then the next time it will work - I thought the cold was affecting it as it started working again as the weather warmed up but it’s gone again!! It’s finding what’s wrong or where to take it that can properly say this is wrong not randomly fit parts to see if it works!! I have a assistance dog and the boot is used all the time - in the hot weather I have a social living strut that keeps the boot open 12” and locked letting air in the boot all weathers my dog must be with me so I’m prepared for the heat. Would be nice to have the boot working again!! Do you know anyone in fife lol 😂😂
Dear friend can you explain please how do you open the gas strut for insert it, because when you show it it was closed but when you insert it it is open....thanks a lot
I’m having a hard time finding a solution for my exact model. When it get hot outside, always during the summer, the tailgate alarm trips and never locks the vehicle. Even when sitting and locked, mid day when it gets hot, the alarm kicks on and the tailgate alarm is on.
Not had that issue before tbh , first thing I’d check is the tailgate alignment , the lock position and rubber stops .. make sure everything is positioned nice and all locates snug into place when shut
