I had a really hard time putting. My putting range was probably 10'; 15 on a good day. A week ago, before I watched this video, I started adding a slight anhyzer like Ron Russell (the last guy in the white shirt) I was almost instantly able to throw 30' and hit metal and chains up 50'. I think my longest successful putt with the anhyzer was around 70'. My stance is completely different than his but it is the same throw. If you are having problems I would suggest you give it a try. I putt an MRV.
lol this is so kool iv just come across disc golf recently, i play a lot of ball golf and love the game but im nervous im going to start liking this more lol.
As someone who has had problems with my putter hyzering out, his style makes a ton of sense to me. By anhyzering, it gives the disc a bit more time before it turns in, which subsequently gives it more time in the air. I'll definitely be giving that a try tomorrow.
This video is awesome, though just a question or two: Don't you have to be touching the ground when you release the throw? Or are they releasing before the jump? Also, doesn't jumping run the risk of having a falling putt if you jump forward? That being said, very cool techniques!
Absolutely, rtcj. I've got to imagine that, for most recreational players, even pretty good ones, if you take a run at the basket, you'll end up three-putting a 100 foot shot more often than you make it. When I'm playing for fun, I'll go for the basket from that distance, but when I'm playing for money, I'm HAPPY to lay it up and let them try to make theirs.
I'm just curious. Is the jump putt something new? I used to play a long time ago. I would jump putt about 50% of the time then. It seemed natural to float in like that. I used my San Mateo mold Shark almost exclusively but that Rattler looks like it can pull off the air-bounce so it probably floats down pretty straight, right?
I'm pretty sure my state Iowa has the 3rd most courses in the nation (and growing) I play disc everyday. I use Discraft disc. Well, execpt my ROC for driving!!
I would imagine that when he says "windy" he means a cross wind. Straddling offers more stability in a cross wind because puting one foot forward and jumping makes your body like a sail in the wind, altering your shot before you've even thrown the disc.
The jump putt has been around for about as long as the falling putt rule has been in effect. This rule states that if you are inside of 10 meters of the basket(roughly 30 feet) you cannot step past your lie until your disc hits the ground or lands in the basket. Jump putting is just a way to get extra power on your putts outside of 30 or so feet.
That's funny... For my approaches, I imagine there's an important message on the bottom of my frisbee (which varies on a shot to shot basis) and I need to get it to the receiver (also varies) to save the world or country or whatever.
I would like to have seen more throws and putts so you can see the entire flight path of the discs. Mostly from Mark Ellis. But otherwise, a good video. And I'm starting to like the Rattler!
Another good tip for putting is not to use different types of putters. Just find one that suits you and stick with it. I've been using Discraft APX Swirls for about 3 years and haven't changed. I make 20-25 footers pretty consistently.
That's 100 ft. No question. I went to Phoenix, AZ and went out to play and ended up playing with Paul Ulibarri. He is a Buzz master! We talked about this video and he says it was embarassing. lol
over time you will find that the buzzz is too fast. your missed puts wil go flying past the basket and skip too far away. get a putter (any putter) and use it! you will thank me later
That is an incorrect statement now. In the circle, you must "show balance". It doesn't matter if your disc is resting in the basket or not. It could be resting but if you fall forward even after several seconds, it is a falling putt.
Ok, nobody jumps then releases the disc...that would defeat the whole purpose of the jump putt which is to get more distance. You can think of it the same way as in basketball. You can get a lot more distance if you jump and throw at the same time, however a true jump shot takes a lot of power out of the shot.
sorry Rene but that is legal. They are outside the 10 meters and aslong the disc is out of their hands before their foot hits the ground,it is a legal throw.
