Same happened to one of my dogs races a few years ago except the hare broke down just after it passed the traps, which then the dogs carried on without the hare. No dog is forced to run, they run if they want, on or off the track 🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️

Yes, greyhounds would still be bred if racing ends, but they would be bred with mothers and sons, fathers and daughters, you get the picture. The true bloodline that makes these greyhounds so pure, will be gone forever. As for bone cancer, EVERY breed of dog gets bone cancer. Not just greyhounds. Humans get bone cancer. Cancer is just a horrible disease that everyone and every dog can get. Greyhound puppies are not killed if they don't make the grade. Greyhounds don't start training to race until they are 14 months old which makes them adults, not pups. Owners don't know which greyhounds are the fastest until they actually begin to race. Those that can't make it racing are retired and go to adoption groups. I have two greyhounds here that never even made it to the tracks to race because they wouldn't chase the lure. Did the owners kill them? Nope. I have them. They were both just turning 2 yrs. old when I adopted them. No elderly dogs are bred. They stop breeding the females at 6 or 7 yrs. old, which is not elderly. Sometimes even younger than that. There might be underground racing somewhere, but to completely ban legal racing would be horrendous for greyhounds everywhere. Greyhounds love to race. Have you ever watched the excitement and happiness in their faces as they run around the track? They love it. They don't know they're racing to win a race. They just know they're running because they love it.

I am talking about greyhounds here in the US, not the UK or any other country. What happens there needs to be changed for the better. Greyhounds here are not killed or overbred or bred as seniors at all. They are protected by the NGA here. There is a 97% adoption rate here. We have adoption groups waiting for greyhounds. Those greyhounds that don't go to adoption groups are either sent back to the farms for breeding or the owners keep them as pets. Yes, they do love to race. They have no idea they are racing to win or what a race is all about, they just know they love it. I have researched all about greyhounds. I have met owners, handlers and trainers. I foster greyhounds and find them good forever homes. If all this killing and breeding seniors is going on in the UK, it's time for you to step up and get it stopped. Don't be the problem, but the solution. Show greyhounds are much different than racing greyhounds. And yes, if racing is banned, there will be inbred greyhounds from back yard breeders just trying to make money from them. The pure blood line will be lost for good. Poor genes is not the reason for bone cancer. Greyhounds are very highly bred by the best quality blood lines. That's why they are such fine bred dogs. Breeders don't just put 2 greyhounds together to get pups. Only the finest blood line dogs get bred. You have a lot to learn about greyhounds. Not just all the rubbish you read. Get to know the breeders, owners, handlers and trainers personally. You'll be surprised at how much you can learn.

The NGA keeps track of each greyhound that is born, where they go after training to where they go after retirement. You get your information from vets? Unbiased vets don't know the industry or greyhounds. They aren't the ones that work at the kennels and know what's going on all the time so your information is moot. And you're going all the way back to the 80's for your information now? Times have changed for the better for greyhounds. Their diet consists of protein, meat, vegetables and rice are fed to them every day. They also get treats, bones to chew on and much care and love. Way back in the 60's, 70's and even early 80's there was a lot of neglect but that has been corrected and it doesn't happen now. If anyone is caught neglecting greyhounds they are thrown out of the business and never allowed to work with or own greyhounds again. Yes, sometimes greyhounds can have bad teeth. But they are given dentals before they go into adoption most of the time. Yes, greyhounds learn to chase a lure. That's how they race. What's so wrong about that. They still love the chase. Before racing, they were used for hunting, chasing down prey. They love the chase. Galgos in Spain are still used for hunting and sadly those scumbag hunters dispose of them like garbage when hunting season is done. So many galgos are getting rescued and saved now and many are sent here to the states for adoption. Racing greyhounds here do not have to be rescued. They are loved, spoiled and very well taken care of There is a vet at every kennel every day checking on their health before each race and after. Yes I do know the industry. You are still whining about thousands being killed every year. Use your common sense please. There are less than 9,000 bred every year and over 5,000 a year go into adoption every year. The rest are racing or are at farms for breeding. So no, thousands are not killed every year. Actually non are killed. Some might have to be put down because of illnesses or severe injuries, which are rare, but none are killed. I'll be done here when you are. You just don't want to admit that you just might be wrong about some things here and I'm right about most. Like I said before, just because you see it on the internet, doesn't mean it's true. Go to the kennels and farms and learn for yourself. Believe it or not, I used to be one of the stupid people that believed greyhounds were abused or neglected and killed. But I was smart enough and used my common sense to meet owners, handlers and trainers and learn what really happens and the real truth. But people like you insist that everything you've read is true. Hi what he is referring to is what happens to most of these dogs after their racing careers are over. Just up the road from me a man was arrested and his allotment was dug up, they found over 480 greyhound corpses. He had been Charging £100 each to dispose of greyhounds after their racing careers were over. To rub salt into the wound he did not receive a harsh sentence, it was a small fine and some community service..,,

Thanas Goga I’m just a person on the internet so please make sure you do your own follow up research. But it’s an incredibly cruel, abusive environment. On the surface we see dogs running. A species of dog that loves to run. So what’s the issue? The issue lies when, let’s say, one of those dogs suffers a minor injury that will put it out for a few races. It’s usually euthanized. Or they end up in retired racing dog kennels which....hell on earth. I had family who raced them and I’ll flat out say, yes, every single person there abused those dogs. Every. Single. One. Any who say they don’t likely just don’t realize that they’re doing things that are abusive and not okay. Out of probably thousands of people we never saw anyone who ACTUALLY gave a shit about the dogs well being. Thankfully this part of my family stopped racing after a particularly tragic event at a race. They’d grown up doing it, as it’d been for generations and so naturally carried it on. But could no longer do so. They couldn’t condone it any longer when a dog had broken its front right leg during a race and afterwards its owner simply jumped up into his trailer, grabbed a crow bar, and smashed the dog in the head because it was now a liability financially, and a burden. ...no one cared. In fact when this family member complained, some board member or something said “well I’d have done it at home, myself. I’d have used a .44. He was out of line but a liability is a liability”. Please look in to the abuses of dog races and make your own opinion. But be sure to also look into what happens to these dogs when they receive even very minor injuries or after they retire. There’s so many racing greyhound rescues because it’s such a problematic thing. We’d gone a few times when I was a kid to see these family members race and it was disgusting every time. One thing I heard all throughout my childhood is “they’re not pets”. Anyone who races will tell you this. And that in itself is a bit problematic. Because they look at these animals as money makers. There’s no real love there.

There's money involved. What's disgraceful is the possibility that the dog was intentionally let out onto the track to void the race. You notice how the announcer mentioned that the race wouldn't be rescheduled? The money bet on that race stayed with the bookies.

right before they were about to cross the finish line another dog ran out onto the track, which can be very dangerous, so the decoy operator stopped the lure and the race was basically void. They don't re run the dogs and there is no result for the race. Pretty sure all the betters lose their wages. The title calls this disgraceful, because people have been known to fix the race by purposely ruining it in ways like this, but it could have been an accident.

All bets are refunded in this case. The dog running in the wrong direction I think was at the back of the pack early in the race. He probably decided to change directions and run toward the rabbit while it was moving toward him. He was part of that race field.

Based on the last image, this uploader just hates dog racing in general and is our for any excuse to try and ‘shame’ it. I live half a mile from my local track. A fair few of the owners are local to the village. I see how them dogs get treated, they’re as much their pets as their racers. No cruelty at all, they’re born to run and they absolutely love to do it.

JustDaisy, Who told you the owners wanted her put down? Unless the owner said it himself, you shouldn't believe that crap. They only euthanize if the break s too severe to fix. There is nothing wrong with greyhound racing. They love it, it's safer than letting them run in their own yard or in an open field and they get the best care.

They're clearly not forced to run, they love it and are bred for it. These dogs are clearly comfortable, you probably just don't know anything about dog behavior and just watch PETA propaganda.

I work with greyhounds and I can assure you that they LOVE racing. They scrabble towards the track and always come out of a race happily wagging their tails. I’ll admit that there are some dodgy people in the industry but most trainers treat the dogs as if they were pets and would do anything to make them happy

Pat OBrien Yea, the handlers hate the greyhounds so much that they spend up to 14 hours a day with them, 7 days a week with no holidays or vacations. If they hated greyhounds they would never give up so much of their lives to be with them. You mad such a stupid comment. What is so cruel about it? What have you ever seen yourself?
