My mother passed earlier this year. Its been rough but I do take some solace in the fact that she didn't have to see her favorite show ruined by Disney.

I really wish condemnation of "Cultural Appropriation" was not such a one sided affair.

For those who are not initiated, the secret to the success of the X-files series is quite simple. It isn't the aliens or the monster mythos that the show depended on for its survival. It was the chemistry between David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson which was unmatched in the 90s and arguably the history of television making it one of the great shows ever. This was demonstrated by the collapse of the final seasons which saw the desperate attempt to reboot the episodes with Agent Doggit and Reyes, one a seasoned actor in his own right and an almost unwatchable replacement of Agent Scully. The absence of Mulder and then Scully from the show was devastating. This has already been tried before and we will see once again how this will play out.

Remember the recent Quantum Leap reboot? Nobody does.

They're just going to have a white guy be the villain in every episode.

They should call this the Y files. ‎The lead characters could investigate why this show was ever made, ‎Why the budget is so high ‎And where the money was going to. ‎Now that is a show that I would watch.

They don't care if this is successful or not, they know nobody wants X-Files without David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, this is just for the ESG score.

The movie 16 candles was on TV yesterday and i put it on for a bit of nostalgia cuz i remembered it being one of my older sisters favorite movies back in the 80s and it dawned on me that these days Molly Ringwald, arguably the biggest movie star of the 80s, wouldn't never ever be cast for anything in todays Hollywood. The show was ok when they got the Terminator 2 guy Robert Patrick but it was not as good as before. But he did a good enough job holding the X-Files together.

I'm black and started watching X files since I was a kid with my mother back in 93 and we loved it! And we've been watching it again on the Comet ch and boy my mother will be disappointed with this unnecessary remake.

I've been watching Buffy lately for the first time, and DAMN if they do a reboot they'd fuck up everything. 90% of the cast is white and while there are occasionally some progressive talking points aside from a couple episodes so far nothing has been outright preachy the way shit is today. Angel it'd be the same thing; too many whites and not enough worship of gay people; Disney would ruin both and I don't know how willing the Buffy fanbase is to safeguard their franchise. There are other shows about monster of the week. People watched this for Anderson and Duchovny performance and whole sci-fi soap drama between them and aliens. its like with Buffy, you can't really reboot the show with different main character.

I watched every episode of X files and both films at least twice. Leave X files alone, it's best left as a relic of the 90s. I get that the revival in the late 2010s was also great, however with Disney in charge and The Message being shoe horned into everything, it's best left alone.

Bobby Iger will never learn. When Disney bought Lucasfilm, Twin Peaks fans were sounding the sirens this guy sucks and will ruin it and NOBODY listened.... They were more than correct.

Looking at the thumbnail, I thought it was an adaptation from an African country for the locals. If it were, no one would bat an eye. Plenty series are adapted around the world for their local audience. From France, I was reminded of the Ugly Betty TV show. At some point in my country, the series was so popular, they broadcasted back to back and sometimes at the same time, the original Mexican telenovela, the German adaptation and the American version. I remember my mom watching within the same day the German version early morning, the Mexican telenovela at noon and the American version in the afternoon or evening prime time. Ugly Betty also has a South African adaptation and an Indian one. If the South Africans or Nigerians decided to make an adaptation of X-files, we wouldn't have this discussion. Heck, some of us may even go watch their versions out of curiosity and be pleasantly surprised. But Hollywoke can't do anything these days that doesn't push for their DIEverse agenda.

While I can appreciate Coogler’s efforts, I wish that he would create something NEW!? He did great work with Fruitvale Station. Then he got Black Panther and did a great job with that. Oh and I forgot the Creed spin off. Coogler you are a talented brother, you can do so much better than a reboot. I was not a fan of the original X Files and putting a new pair and making them black won’t make me a fan. I actually would be more impressed if you kept the leads white. I believe that black filmmakers can do work with white casts and would like to see something like that. Like I wanted Disney to give another hero to you not just the black ones.

While I agree with you Ethan that Mulder and Scully are the iconic X-files characters, the later seasons where they focused on white latina lady and her partner the actor who played the liquid terminator were also very good story wise with Carter at the helm.

Well shit, sci-fi fans can't have a damn thing! They tried this a while ago, remember? They tried bringing it back, but to no one's surprise, it was buried in the annals of time and now no one hardly remember it. The X Files was a product of its time and nowadays where almost every damn thing has confirmed, or still adds to our older theories about the world around us, is basically thrown back into our faces while being called names, this is a terrible idea!
