DUDE!!… THANK YOU so much. I’m 1 month post surgery & am experiencing most of the frustrations you shared. You somehow made me feel like , “I will get through this” “ this too shall pass”. So glad you’re getting better & NOW I know I WILL TOO. Thank you! God bless.😊

I'm here 1 month past surgery, both wrist, 1 compound. 3 plates prolly 15 screws. Wish me luck boys, cause she's wearing on me mentally. Just got the casts off, also couldn't move my elbow, in the braces, they told me to work on mobility, I can't bend my wrist backwards yet and I'm freaking. It's all panic inducing.

Broken scaphoid, ulnar, and distal radius. I'm doing pt on my own. Appreciate this video. I use my daughter's playdough 😂 it's been 5 weeks since break. I'm 48 yrs old. Didn't opt for surgery. My 1 month xray showed great healing. I'm using red light therapy 3x a day. Rubbing comfrey salve and talking homeopathic cell salts-... Pherum phos, calc fluor, calc phos, silicea. Also upped my protein way up including liver. Soaking in Epsom salt too. Had removable cast entire time. No numbness or tingling just super stiff and working through it! Wishing everyone a speedy recovery

Hi, thank you for posting this... It's been a year and 3 weeks since my surgery. I am still unable to make a fist... But I took a break from PT as it was too painful. Your post is encouraging me to go back and be patient and consistent. Thank you and I will follow you for more....

@tedlivermore6955 I have come to realize my wrist will never be able to handle the pressure from lifting and exercising as I use to as it is weak. I still feel alot of tingling and occasionally sharp pain from the area of the injury sometimes all the way up to my shoulder. I drop things alot so I try to use my left hand more.

I continue to watch your video to give myself encouragement that I could do this and know that my wrist will heal at some point. I try to stay positive but every morning I wake up with pain in my wrist and my hand and fingers are stiff stiff. It takes my exercises to get my hand going. They tell me it’s gonna take six months to a year to get full function back. I go to OT twice a week and do my home program several times a day. They say that I’m progressing, but it’s very slow. I am now nine weeks out from my fracture. I know I’m still in the early stages of healing.

I broke my wrist in September 2013 at work. I have plates & screws in. I worked in homecare. It was a distal radius fracture. I had a cast on for only 2 weeks. Straight away after my cast was off & the butterfly stitches taken off, I started physio . My wrist was very very painful & very very stiff & swollen for a long time. At the time I wondered if I would ever be able to move my wrist & fingers properly agin. And if I'd get back to work. I also had a frozen shoulder within 2 weeks of my accident, which made it worse. I was referred to the pain clinic . I had 10 months off work. Now just over 10 years after the accident. I still have some stiffness & weakness in my wrist & arm. But I'm doing OK. The exercises that I was told to do helped alot, but it was a slow process. Take care everyone....ll

After much searching I have finally found a video of an actual person who is experiencing the same type of injury as i am. 09/20/21 was my accident and I have another week to go until the cast is removed. I too have a plate and screws and most likely will need to wear a splint after the cast, and physio...a long recovery! Thank you for the very informative and helpful video.

Tips on No insurance by former Medicare Specialist Joyce of KS. When I had cancer in 09 I had Blue Cross Blue S hield. I thought I knew a lot about health insurance because I had been a Dir of HR in hotels. So I had gap coverage and I thought, "well this would definitely cover me if I had the biggy diseases. Wrong. This was before Obama care and laws about preexisting diseases. When I call the two hospital in St Louis that had been recommended to me by friends and Caring Team of St Louis First Church UU: I got lots of help on being poor and the wrong Medicare insurance. Call SHIP to get free help with Medicare, Medicaid and Supplemental Plans. Do not call Medicare first. Call SHIP first. You may be entitled for free healthcare if you are poor enough. This goes for young people too have been laid off. Joyce, Top City in KS Good luck and hop to you. The wrist with cast or synthetic brace can feel it is 700 degrees at night. I had an accident on 19th December 2021, I broke the radius bone and had ulc thumb injury. Both got operated on 22nd December. It was shitty in the beginning. It got better and today I am able to type with my both hands, lift small objects and chop vegetables. I’m very thankful that you made this video. It made the whole journey a lot easier for me. I’m very confident about my recovery. It just takes a lot of time. One must stay patient and go to therapy.

Thank you for sharing Mike. My cast came off last Monday after similar surgery as yours for a smashed distal radius in my left wrist. The pain and lack of movement in my wrist and fingers had left me despondent thinking I would never be able to play guitar again. Your video has lifted my spirits and made me realise there is hope! Keep on fighting! Thank you.
@MichaelDelgado
@MichaelDelgado 2 года назад
Absolutely. My fingers weren't working properly in the beginning, and I couldn't even grip a tennis ball. It took time to get my mobility and strength back. I think playing guitar could be a great mobility exercise for your fingers, even if you can only move one or two fingers right now. Keep focusing on the small wins because it's easy to be discouraged when you're not seeing quick progress. It takes time. I tried lots of different activities to strengthen my fingers. I squished sand, play-doh, clay, and then tried to play my Nintendo switch. It hurt to move buttons and the controller, but I eventually got stronger. BTW, my PT always wrapped my wrist in a heating pad before starting exercises, and that helped a lot. You may want to try that.

Hi Sarah! I work with a certified hand therapist and a distal radius fracture is the most common fracture we see! I want to assure you distal radius fracture patients do very well. After 2 weeks you should expect to get the stitches out and begin motion. Generally after 6 weeks you’ll be able to lose the splint and begin strengthening. You’ll be shocked how fast your motion and strength make progress. Most patients I see with this injury make full recoveries! Good luck!

Your videos of your injuries and healing are so encouraging. I broke my wrist in 3 places 6 weeks ago. I have a permanent metal plate in my wrist to stabilize it. I never had a cast-only a splint. My surgeon doesn’t do casts bk of risk of infection. I’m finally through the worst of the pain, but I still can’t make a fist or bend my wrist backwards, but am making progress. I still have a lot of swelling, so that is one thing holding me back. My Surgeon and Workmans Comp Rep are saying I need to be making a fist by now, but I can’t force my hand to do that no matter how hard I try. My Occupational Therapist is working with me 2 days a week and then I work on my hand every day. They are saying if I don’t make a fist soon the scar tissue is going to make my hand be like it is and never get full mobility. I am a 71 yr old woman so my age probably factors in. I play the piano and drive a transportation van to take clients, including wheelchair clients, wherever they need to go so I really need full use of my hands. I’m pushing as hard as I can. I keep it moving and massage it at various times of the day.

Got plates on wrist and clavicle...cast was removed from wrist 2 weeks later and now wear a brace. Started therapy 2 weeks ago ....fingers are stiff can not bend them very much can't do a hook fist yet. Thank you for sharing your story. I’m now 12 weeks out from the distal radius fracture and ten weeks since surgery. Today is the first day that my pain is bearable. I can relate to everything you have said. I wear the scar patch to soften the scar tissue. I have that compression sleeve which is like my security blanket for my wrist. Today I’m finally able to make a fist without the other hand to assist. I still lack backward wrist movement which frustrates me to no end. I broke it playing pickleball. I have osteoporosis and my surgeon said it’s pretty bad in my wrist. Therefore I can’t play anymore which is a bummer. Breaking a hip would be even worse says the surgeon. I turned 70 a week after breaking it. Not a fun way to celebrate seven decades. What a nightmare this has been.

Hi, Mike. I hope you have got better now. Thanks for your updates, they are extremely useful and hopeful. I have also broken my radius and ulna when I was playing football. I have not had a surgery. The cast was there for exact 6 weeks, but now after two weeks that the cast is removed, my wrist movement is still very restricted. I would say it is less than 30 percent back now. Fortunately, the fingers are fully back and I only need to strengthen the muscles. Looking forward to having your next update and I wish all the best for you.

Yeah, I had similar range of motion issues in the beginning. It hurts to bend our wrist when the case first comes off. I was probably at 30% mobility a few weeks after surgery, too. I kept doing my exercises as much as possible. My PT would wrap my arm in a heating pad before the exercises, which reduced my pain. It gets better in time. I'm now back to full mobility after 6 months, but I still have some discomfort and slight pain when doing pushups. It just takes time. Keep up your exercises and celebrate the small wins along the way. :)

I found your video while I was searching for the exercises I may be doing - hopefully next week 🤞🏻. Good luck with the rest of your recovery.

Thanks so much for sharing your story. I too have a compound distal radius fracture I got from rollerskating on 11/26. Had to get an external fixator and a carpal tunnel release and then on 12/5 got an internal fixator. Don’t have as many screws as you, but it’s very comforting to hear many of the same struggles that I have expressed and that it will get better.

Hello, I'm from Denmark. Thank you very much for your helpful video, which I learned a lot from. I broke my Radius bone on left hand, on 1.1.2022. It grew back together incorrectly when the fracture had slipped. I went to an orthopedic specialist in this area who operated on my hand 15.11.2022, and put on an Acu-Loc 2 wrist plate on the bone. However, he first had to split the bone again, before the Acu-Loc 2 was put on. Today I am training to get my driving skills back. Good luck to you ;-)

Thank You for this video, I've been 4 weeks post surgery, the scarring has healed quickly, Iam able to move some of my fingers (left hand compound fracture) it's been real difficult getting sleep, at work typing with one hand. my left fingers are still kinda sensitive. Thank You because I thought I felt alone in this, knowing that others have similar experiences makes a difference.

I am so excited to find this video. I have a distal radius fracture also when i fell on concrete and landed on my teeth. Every thing you say is 100% identical to my pain and inability to sleep, open a can, twist a pepper grinder, etc. I do not have as good a PT...my injury was 8/21/21. I have great difficulty with wall pushups, and every morning I wake up my fingers are swollen and barely bendable for hours and hours. I will watch this video and learn to do your exercises. How funny...I have a pair of fingerless winter gloves and it sure looks and fits snugger than your sock. I look forward to following your recovery. I feel "so much better" that you experienced the same excruciating pain as I have. I thought i was just being a baby. Be safe on your bike and skateboard! Maybe get more pads at least.. Thank you so very much for sharing.

I'm so sorry to hear about your injury. I can't even imagine all the pain you must be going through with your mouth and arm. Dang! I hear you about not being able to sleep much. I had rough nights for the first month or so. The pain is excruciating for sure. You'll be on the mend soon, and sleep will help a lot with your recovery. I bought some melatonin gummies to help me sleep a bit during that period. Those gloves sound perfect. My scar is still tender 6-months later. I should have been massaging that area more to reduce the scar tissue. I'm back on my bike and rollerblading again and being extra careful. No more halfpipes for me. I'm staying on the ground. Keep working on those wall pushups if your doctor gives you approval. It takes time. Just don't push yourself too much. You need your body to heal. Keep me updated. :)

Totally! My arm felt very weak when the cast was removed and I wasn't able to move my wrist much. It takes time. My PT helped me a lot with different types of exercises. I also like that she wrapped my arm in a heating pad for 15 minutes before working on my arm so that there was less pain. Be hopeful and listen to your PT. You'll get through this. It's just rough in the beginning. I wish you all the best in your recovery -- and make sure to celebrate all the small wins along the way. I remember the first time I could brush my teeth with my right hand after the cast was removed. It hurt a lot, but I was happy to get that movement back. :)

Boy I really enjoyed watching your videos. Very similar for me. Although I fell on Christmas morning 2021. Had the compound wound repaired that day as well as them re-setting the dislocation. Surgery 3 days later with internal plates and screws as well as and external device (metal bar) that was screwed into my hand an wrist. It was an insane time. Hard to sleep. Felt like I always had my arm resting on a metal picket fence. Another surgery to remove the external device 6 weeks later. Then ended up also needing another surgery 8 months later to remove the Ulnar Styloid that was giving me problems. While they were in there they removed the plates and screws because the screws were irritating a tendon. Not post op from that 2 months, I’m still working hard to get things moving. So comforting to hear many of the same experiences that you had. Scar sensitivity when touched, pain when getting out of a chair. Etc. Appreciate hearing I’m not alone. Hoping I can get full mobility back one day.

I was in terrible pain during the first few months after surgery. It's difficult to sleep and my arm felt like it was on fire. My fingers were very swollen and it was very difficult to move them. I'm grateful to have a P.T. to help me with recovery and to guide me with the types of wrist and finger movements to help me recover faster. The key is to stay positive and celebrate the small wins along the way. I made it a goal to exercise every day during this recovery period. I've been going on long walks and/or riding a stationary bike. That's helped me feel better. Let me know what's helped you.

Hi I’m from Northern Ireland! Hello Everyone! I broke my wrist plate & screws. Post op I was able to have excellent hand movement. Now 7weeks on I can’t move my wrist it’s so so painful, really really stiff. I’ve got pain shooting up my arm, swelling and at times my skin is hot to touch. My scar has healed really well. My biggest and only concern is getting movement back into my wrist.

Oh man, I remember the finger issues! I never thought I'd get through that. I wasn't told to, but it helped when I would massage each finger, up and down. I think it loosened up the muscles and joints. It's been about a year and a half since my radius and ulnar break and I still cannot put my palm face up. I can put weight on it and all, but that's the one thing that's still driving me crazy and I'm afraid I've gone beyond the point of it getting any better. I have MS so I'm glad I at least got back some strength to help me push up from my wheelchair and all.

I'm 2 weeks, 4 days post surgery on my right wrist. Plate and screws. Broken radius and ulna. Unfortunately, at the same time, I broke my left wrist too, radius! So I have a cast on my left wrist and post surgery splint on right wrist. To say I am depressed is an understatement! 12 days after surgery (last week) the slab and bandage came off and I was told to do 6 wrist exercises at least five times a day, which I am doing religiously. I hope my left wrist has less pain and more movement than this right wrist when the cast comes off in 2 weeks and 1 day. I am feeling very incapacitated 😢

I might be an extreme outlier here, I had a fairly severe fracture as well mountain biking two weeks ago, I broke my distal bone in two places and dislocated my wrist It hurt a little when It happened but I was able to drive myself to the hospital (I didn't think it was broken at the time). This happened 2 weeks ago. I had surgery last Tuesday and had the same procedure however, I didn't need any narcotic pain medicine I took ibuprofen the first few days tho to help with some of the uncomfortable I felt especially while sleeping. I was able to move all my fingers the next day a little and today to be completely honest the only thing that's an annoyance is the cast itself I can do most things normally as long as the cast doesn't get on the way. I'm able to grip and move my fingers pretty well. I'm actually typing with both hands right now. When the doctor said I had an insane pain tolerance I thought she was joking/being positive but watching your video and reading other people's comments makes me think she wasn't joking.

I will get my cast off in 2 days (after 6 weeks and 4 different castings). Like you I've been moving my fingers and knuckles and celebrating each time it is less painful.
