I love that you show the totality of what it takes to be race car drivers. It takes more than showing up at a race. The maintenance, supplies, and fuel for the car is expected. The ancillary things require just as much attention. Good show!

This was waaayyy beyond anything 101 - - very very cool Chief & Jackie, thanks for the great explanation complete with the vid shot showing the issue as the car left - truly great stuff - I wonder if you guys have any idea how cool it is to just watch the Crow come off the trailer with that great camera position complete with Jackie guiding - not to mention watchin' it launch. All of the years of work and personal investment are sooo visible in every inch of your car. Personally, I love that you've kept honing this configuration instead of changing up your combination every season. 🙏

Jackie, you set up that trailer hella quick! Justin, your total knowledge of every single aspect of a race car is so impressive to me. That’s why you never seem to have the problems other guys seem to have. I don’t think I’ve ever seen you lose bc of a stupid oversight on the car. Yes, parts break and shit happens but your one of the few, along with Ryan that always has everything on point when you pull up to the starting line. You may no longer have enough to run NPK, but, I think you would take ANY of those guys out on the street even though they all can make stupid power. The only thing bad about you guys not doing NPK is that your fans have few opportunities to meet you guys.

Jackie's cleaning was incredible you're lucky guy chief I guess the distributor stuff was okay but Jackie cleaning was out of this world dot-dot-dot everybody go racing get some fun going

Well this is a classic example of ignoring the KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) which of course includes make sure that everything is mechanically sound before looking at more difficult and complex troubles to resolve which could be and often are occurring because of simpler mechanical trouble that has been overlooked and or resolved. The Second thing which Chief eluded to but did fully elaborate on is the importance of learning how to read and then understand what the ultimate engine sensor is telling you and by that I mean the spark plugs. That was something beaten into my head when I first started racing and tuning my car years ago. Anyway I am glad that Chief found his apparent mechanical gremlin. On a side note years ago a now sadly defunct local speed-shop in my area used to do lots of distributor work and one of their services was removing all the slop out of a distributor and they did this by machining the distributor housing at the base and top of the housing to ensure they are flat and parallel to each other, and installing appropriate washers and thrust bearings so that zero shaft end play. It never ceased to amaze me how many high priced aftermarket distributors had stupid amounts of shaft end play.

Thanks for the tunning info, i am 71 years old been using distributor's with points the whole time, i just went to the drags with my 74 f250 390+ 0.060, 10.5:1 rv cam and headers, stock heads and manifold and carb and dist with points, and air filter, from a 1965 t- bird, 5700lbs with me the lumber rack winch, tools spare tire just like i drive it every day, ran 17.18 1/4, 10.9 1/8, first time i went to drags since 1973. I run it on 87 octain gas, with vacuum retard from drivers seat, on the hwy i get 13 mpg at 60 mph. Love that you are helping the rest of us guys on a budget.

I'm CoP with megasquirt and this could still happen to me since my timing is still run from the stock distributor hall sensor setup. Good job finding this gremlin though, some people would never get to the bottom of what was happening so a day and a half of troubleshooting to figure it out is a win.

He made last second work and shredded a Raggedy Ann owner in a same lane footrace T2GFTW...chutes out on that short shut down, and fast licks to all of you, be safe folks, stay on the pavement, narrow lanes are nasty, and those woods eat up nice cars after the creek bumps. I got nervous for all of em just watching the vids last season...on every pass. Worse than a sketchy road, so The Crow will do fine, now that timing issues are resolved.

On another note, I’ve tried to watch America’s List and it’s turned into a Memphis show so, I just can’t watch it. I get so tired of hearing JJ’s big mouth running on every single race! He even basically accused Lutz of cheating for the 405 flagging the races yet nothing was said! You accuse me or my crew of cheating , we gonna be throwing hands! It’s especially rich for JJ of all people accusing someone of cheating or trying to hustle someone out of their money! For one thing about 70% of that list of the “ best street racers “ simply isn’t true. None of that 70% would go out and unload on a REAL street anytime anyplace . Yes, they are racing on a street but we both know it’s really not the same thing. Hell, even some of the OG’s on that list aren’t true street anymore. So, I’m done with that show. I’ll stick with the Chief and Jackie show here on the tube!!

Everybody can explain what and what not. But to solve it is a different matter all together. Like u explained, it should not matter as the position is fixed. Its just logic, but then again , you managed to confirm that little thing with such a small gap was causing the major issue. Most of us, will just give up and change it.
