Yeah seeing people go through clothes like that really bugs me. I will rotate the same few outfits every week, and wear them until they're too damaged to repair, then they get retired into rags. Trashing clothes is so wasteful, but shein is such bad quality that's all you really can do

It’s weird repeating outfits has become a bad thing now. It used to be so normal. People would have about 30 outfits MAX and that was it. It’s so weird how I never see anyone wearing the same thing twice now. I started noticing it happening around 2016. It was always a thing with celebrities but never regular people like it is now.

Same here. I buy all my clothes secondhand and I know how to make my own, using thrifted fabric. Old bed sheets = shirt. Valance = pants. Couch cover = cloak. Old bathrobe = soft toys. It's a creative exercise to think about how an item can be repurposed.

This. I started learning to sew at age three. I knit or crochet most of my hats and other (religious) headcovers. I even do a little beadwork. It's fun, it's quick, and I know how much my labour is worth.

She made everything herself... now I own the farm but I'm not doing all of that instead I sell all my stuff and I earn a lot of money lol

My grandmother taught sewing. All my aunts on that side made their clothes. Including a bunch of designer patterns. People used yo do these things. Lots of furniture makers, farmers, canners etc. As a kid we'd go to the county fair and there were so many kids projects. Including farm animals, all kinds of projects.

This website isn't for 'basic necessity' clothing that would be 'regularly priced' but is a FASHION or 'optional' clothing website whose products would obviously be way more expensive otherwise. So those clothing your refering to as 'regular price' wouldn't be reasonable to mark or state their prices as 'average' or 'regular' when in reality the clothing its mimicking would be extremely expensive (hence they make money off of cheap knock offs based off of expensive name brands). Don't turn this into 'it helps the poor' thing because there are other options and this one is honestly not worth it if you actually are having a hard time with clothing because it won't be warm, it will easily fall apart and it may even ship in the wrong size/may not fit how you wanted it to. I wouldn't open my wallet for people who want name-brand (rip off or authentic) or hella expensive/'fashion purpose' clothing if they can't afford it and if they are in need of clothing then I would find their focus skewed if they would put their money into fashion knock offs than reliable clothing which would last longer.

I worked at a food bank during college and talked with people facing poverty daily. They don’t have money for high quality pieces. And no, most of them don’t have time to go thrift shopping either. Look, I get it. I live a low waste lifestyle. All my clothes are second hand, but blaming the consumer is not the right move.

I worked at JCP about 10 hours a week recently. 13:27 Everything is from China and we had to open the packages in the back and let them air out before putting them on the floor. The chemical smell was a awful. Wherever you purchase no matter the store if it’s from China it’s made by worker slaves. Sad world for sure but it’s true.

That’s true! WM I know for a fact has sweatshops in China where those people work in horrible conditions with no AC for only a dime an hour to make their products such as clothes, toys etc. There’s a whole documentary about it. After I watched that I no longer support or shop at WM.

The question would still stand though. Would you rather buy from a place that produces thousands of clothing pieces daily and gets a work process that on average takes weeks done in a few days OR would you rather shop from a place that produces less waste and has clothes you could use as 'hand me downs' at least 2 to 4 times before you have to donate it? No one is saying that shein is the ONLY fashion to EVER waste, produce cheap clothing with cheap material and pay workers under a dollar for something that's sold for over 20 bucks but we are stating a question of between the two, which is arguably better considering the fact that all fashion brands waste? And during the posing of that question most people would choose Amazon, Target, Walmart etc. over shein ANY day.

Let’s not be naive and think that more expensive automatically means it’s being produced more ethically. And like others have said, shopping g at Big Box stores isn’t always an option, especially when your kids are growing and need new clothes every few weeks. Second-hand stores don’t carry everything in everyone’s sizes and they’re raising their prices like crazy too!

And btw, yes, crocheting CAN be done on a machine. Nobody sat there and hand crocheted that sweater. Not at Target!

This! What's the point in buying more expensive clothes if they just come out of the same factory? Lately, I've been splurging on more expensive clothes that I know are Australian Made but it's unrealistic to expect people to not have some cheap clothes in their wardrobe, whether you buy clothes at Shein, Target, or Nike it's all from a Chinese sweatshop. And while we should all encourage people to buy better quality clothes that aren't made by people in terrible conditions, I don't have it in me to blame them for trying to shop on a budget when the more expensive clothes are just as terrible as the cheap clothes.

Not even close. Idk what it was and really dont care, I stick with the decision me and my daughter made to toss the clothes. Also I didnt mention this but the clothes were very poorly made in the first place. Not really good for 6 kids ages 9 months-9 years old. We will stick with the places I mentioned above. And even the ones I didnt mention lol. I guess everyone has their preferences and I was just sharing what our personal experience was with the Shein clothes for kids that we had.

I grew up dirt poor. We rented a basement and could barely afford food, so maybe twice a year when we needed new clothes we went to the thrift shop. I still love going there even though I'm not poor anymore because not only am I used to it but they have so many cute clothes that you can't find anywhere. It's also great for the enviornment

Exactly! There are two sides of a coin. I am from Bangladesh, which is also known for their cheap labour in the garments sector. If people don't work, they won't have money to feed their families. At least it's better than being homeless and relying on state fund like in the west. I'm not supporting cheap labour. It's just that, there aren't anything alternative to replace the garment sector. We need to create more businesses first, so that the poor people don't work in these factories.

I've never seen a ghost town here in Australia but it looks like it's heading that way too. It's just really sad these greedy big companies only care for money.

@@alexisvanauken2434 I'm thinking the way of writing the tags clothes was a way to say they need help without Shein viewing it and thinking that's the case, at least not right away. By hiding the message of "need your help", within badly translated directions, it doesn't make Shein think twice and think "Hmm are they reaching out", it makes them think "okay this is bad translation they'll understand, right, probably, who cares." When someone found the message of needing help, the message spread further, and more people started to become aware of the reality of things. Even if it was truly just bad translation, it still worked out in the end.

I mean this will all respect because I’m a home sewer. The widest part of my body is about 40 inches (hips) so let’s say I made a slip dress that takes 2yards of fabric. To increase the size of clothing it takes (for height or weight) it takes a lot more fabric yardage. Fabric cost $2-$40 a yard depending on the pattern. More fabric the more the cost. Bigger clothes should cost more, Because it’s more material. But I understand we do not get paid enough for that here in the states😢. Don’t buy trendy items buy classic items that you’ll get longer wear out of and can create more ensembles by interchanging items. All love ❤

@@SimplyStormy Companies buy fabric in bulk for less money so there isn't really much of an excuse to make plus size clothes cost more honestly. Like I've looked at buying things wholesale and it is wayyyy cheaper, it's just not feasible for the everyday man cause obviously you aren't gonna use that much material. However Joann's also ups the normal cost of fabrics too, you can get the same types of fabrics for cheaper from local fabric shops or established trusted online shops.
