i think something like this would look really cool with the dice tower being book-based! something like scraps of pages from old books or newspaper or something glued in some sort of paper mache-y way to the tower

Amazon actually sells nested book boxes, so you could make the small one into a tower & store it inside the matching larger one.

If you aren’t concerned about a repeating pattern for the cobble, use a small rock to put a stone texture in the foam. Just an idea for someone who doesn’t want to buy or print a rolling pin

I've done that using PVC pipe, works like a charm. I had to do two passes to get a good texture. I also made another one by wrapping the pipe in sculpey and pushing pebbles into it, then baking. Turned out great!

Made a similar one last night! I already had a small box with a magnetic closure that I was able to fit into the "slot" at the end of the "book box". So, it was just a matter of making an opening in the top, an exit at the bottom, and a means of redirecting the dice inside. Then I decorated the outside.

A really nice build. I would be tempted to put some extra bracing in for the dice deflectors, especially if you are using heavier dice. These will get quite a lot of bashing over several sessions and would be a pain to repair. You could use double or triple foam thicknesses glued together (if there is still room for the D20), or add popsicle sticks on the underside. I would also push some pins in from the outside to give extra strength. I would also paint & mod-podge the inside before sticking the front wall on, again to give the deflectors strength.

Thank you for the video, I bought the book but decide to to with a super simplistic (no cobblestone) version. I think I may try other materials other than foam later as well, thinking of thinner materials than foam panels

For another idea for a cobblestone pattern without the 3d printed item is you can use foil and crinkle it up and use maybe a heat gun or hair dryer to get the foam a bit softer and then mash the foil on top of the foam,

Using dollar tree foam core, does the foam get scuffed up? I'd imagine probably not with plastic or wood dice, but what about stone or metal? Might be a good idea to use a sturdier material if you plan on using stone or metal dice.

I love this idea! I don’t care for the tower part, but the book box is a great place to roll dice, as well as to store them along with pens & notepaper. You could decorate the cover & spine with a title like it's a spell book or book of your campaign world's lore. And the inside of the lid is a good place to mount a notecard holder for combat bonuses & penalties or reminders you need when rolling dice.
