Hey buddy thanks have a 97 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 5.2 L V8 4x4 I'm trying to get it to 400,000 mi. Guess it's time to replace the differential fluids. And the transmission fluid. This thing is running great.

Royal Purple products work really awesome with my Dana Super 30, Super 35 and 6-speed manual transmission (it now shifts much easier and smoother, too). Also, I've been really diggin' on the LubeLockers - great choice!

Thank you for the video. I've seen several videos with simply replacing the fluid and several replacing the gaskets/rtv. Aside from an obvious leak, how does one know to replace the gaskets?
@bdtaylor1979
@bdtaylor1979 Год назад
The one and only time I used a gasket on a rear differential cover it leaked even though it was torqued properly. Every other time I used rtv and they never leaked. I would rather clean off the rtv each time than have to worry about the gasket leaking.

@@ATEMOFFROAD what's your take on the 8.8 over a 44.
@ATEMOFFROAD
@ATEMOFFROAD 3 года назад
@@ryansremark6983 I think that can both be good axels and built strong, the 8.8 has thicker tubes. you can find one very inexpensive (100.00)and the D44 are hard to come by and expensive. I have a D44 in the rear of my green jeep I love it ! Unfortunately that axle does not have rear disc brakes which if you are swapping in an 8.8 can easily find a junk yard axle with disc brakes on them so thats huge in savings! The axle is like a 1 different in width so it sticks out further! I’ll be swapping out the rear axle with an 8.8 very soon in the red jeep, the D35 hasn’t failed yet! But hoping to have some content on that soon! Hope this helps thanks for watching

Great Vid! Would you suggest putting slighty more gear oil for a Dana 30 & 35 with an after market cover? I will be putting on a rugged ridge boulder diff cover on the 35 and a Yukon hardcore nodular diff cover for the 30. Can’t seem to find any info on exact amount to add 😅
@ATEMOFFROAD
@ATEMOFFROAD 2 года назад
For the most part requardless of the cover filling to the fill plug will keep you safe. I’ve herd of people adding more when the angle of pinion angle of the differential changed. Hope this helps

I have a 2012 unlimited sahara. The guys at Napa said both front and rear need friction modifier. I noticed you talked about it but bought gear oil that doesn't have it. Why not?
@ATEMOFFROAD
@ATEMOFFROAD 9 месяцев назад
They could be right, Some vehicles needed friction modifier if equipped with limited slip style traction control. You can pull the cover off and quickly find out. The rubicon has true E lockers no modifier required. Royal purple has it already inside, it’s good stuff and that’s what I use on my rubicon but not required.

Hello and question, Just bought a 2001 jeep wrangler tj sahara and i want to change the covers and of course new gaskets . I want to order new covers for front and back , so can i order 2 Dana 44's for it or are they a differnt size front to back? Thank you
@ATEMOFFROAD
@ATEMOFFROAD 2 года назад
I believe Sahara came with d30 front and d44 rear but any jeep could be different a d35 is more common on jeeps but the rubicon has both front and rear d44s, before You buy any diff cover or gasket, make sure you have the right ones. That could be easy as asking the guy at the counter for all three gaskets take them out to the jeep and see which one it is . A picture on your phone would work too.
@blake_pearson

Sooo the stock Eaton tru-trac does NOT require the friction modifier?
@ATEMOFFROAD

I have a Detroit tru trac “mechanical”locker no modifiers required. Limited slip yes 👍🏼

I have an 03’ Wrangler With Dana 30 front and Dana35 in rear . How do I know if it requires the limited slip additive ? I was told that if it don’t require the additive and I still add it that it won’t do any harm ?
@ATEMOFFROAD
@ATEMOFFROAD 6 месяцев назад
The best way is to remove the cover and see if you have a locker, if there is no locker than no friction modifier is required, there are 5 types of lockers all basically do the same thing just some do it better. The only locker that needs additive is a clutch pack/ disk type limited slip locker. All others don’t need it. Detroit tru track (mechanical helical gear) No Arb air locker No E locker NO Lunch box locker NO. Unless otherwise stated If you are really unsure what you have use royal purple it has additive and it won’t hurt any locker. 🍻

Always use synthetic oil. Just pay the 5 bucks difference. Bro! Really? Conventional oil is old days. We live in 2022 lol
@ATEMOFFROAD
@ATEMOFFROAD Год назад
I’ve been using good conventional oil for years buddy no problems, ever!! If you change the oil regularly you don’t need to spend your extra hard earned money on synthetic. Absolutely nothing wrong with conventional oils. Especially in older vehicles
@poke777890
@poke777890 Год назад
@@ATEMOFFROAD conventional oil last 3000 miles synthetics clam to last 15,000. The question is, why wouldn’t you want the best? I get what you’re saying, can you change your oil every 3000 miles ,but conventional oil is getting faded out. Good long lasting oil is extremely important, you shouldn’t be giving advice. Because the price is almost the same.
@ATEMOFFROAD
@ATEMOFFROAD Год назад
@@poke777890 most importantly it’s not the oil ,it’s how frequent you change it. I can agree with you that the oil is better but it better be at that price. definitely haven’t given advice on synthetic vs conventional we are taking about gear oil here, but I can tell you that even with the best engine oil go ahead and change it every 15k, I garuntee that you will be doing way more harm than good with your highest priced oil than my 3k conventional oil change. I’m not forcing you to do anything you don’t want to do it’s at your own discretion. Now do you think all dealerships put high quality oil in there vehicle for a basic service? haha that’s a joke , they put the cheapest oil in these cars they can because that’s the most profit then tell you to come back in 15k. you want to rip people off and sell them high price oil that is you. It’s not necessary period. My opinion When conventional goes away completely let it. Then I will adjust.

@poke777890
@poke777890 Год назад
@@ATEMOFFROAD you are so correct dealerships do put the most cheapest oil to save money. If you care about your car why would you do that to yourself? I get everything you’re saying. I just don’t get why you’re not wanting to use the best?according to all oil manufactures. Your next oil change just switch to synthetic it will be better for you.
