I Also have a 2007 Tucson 2.7 v6, with 150k miles. As a DIY garage mechanic, I found your video very helpful. If you’re removing the intake manifold, I do recommend not skimping on spark plugs. Quality is your best friend. Since you have removed the intake manifold, I would also recommend replacing the valve cover gaskets. I’m so happy I did. I found a small oil leak coming from the back valve cover gasket around cylinder 3. The gaskets were also brittle and broke very easily. I also replaced all spark plugs cables. I also noticed that the wiring harness casing was brittle and crumbled in my hand. I used black electrical tape and small black zip ties on each end to secure the tape. If done properly it looks great and will last a long time. BE GENTLE! while taping the wire harness. You break a wire, you just created more work for yourself.

You are a life saver. I have a 2005 Kia Sportage with this engine in it and I needed to do the spark plugs but could not afford to take it to a shop. I went and got a three day member ship to kia's global information system and their instructions in their own service manual were about as helpful as a screen door in a hurricane. I went through so many kia forums and youtube videos. Which most of the videos were people standing in front of the engine talking....but not showing anything at all. I then decided to suck it up and spent 20 dollars on justanswer, and the only thing the mechanic did on their was send me the same exact manual I got off of the kia service site. I was about to spend the 500 dollars to get this done when I found your video and it saved the day. So thank you very much for your video and instruction.

Thank you for the video. It's very helpful. Needless to say most people hate this design. Japanese cars and American cars are easier to replace spark plugs and spark plug wires. Even German cars are not this difficult to replace them. This design on Tucson is simply stupid. Why the hell put them in such a hideous and difficult to reach places.

Perfeito!

Just completed this. Great video. The only thing I would add is when removing the manifold it helps to use two screwdrivers one on the far right front corner one on the far left front corner to pry/rotate the front up to clear the two studs and then slide it out toward the driver's side to clear the one stud in the back. Using 2 tools to pry the manifold helps to bring it up evenly.

I just bought a Kia Sportage with this motor and want to replace plugs and check out that variable intake runner manifold valves. Don't want pieces to get sucked into the engine. Do you know if anyone's got a RU-vid video for that job?

@@angelocardoc sorry man I don't. I watched quite a few videos on the intake manifold and if I remember this one was the best. It did seem kind of intimidating. It took me a little while, just have the radio on in the background and you will do all right.

2 tips I would add- 1) You don-t need to take the small hoses off. Mine did not want to budge, so I looked further, and you can just disconnect several connectors and still get the whole plenum off. Most connectors you just need to take a screwdriver and push down on a tab, and it slides off. 2) You need to get the studs on the front of the plenum off to be able to slide the whole plenum off to the right. Don't even think about grabbing vice grips to twist the studs off, you will just damage the threads. Use the double nut technique (google that) and it is very simple, the stud threads right out. This takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour to get the plenum off, so not a bad job overall. Definitely worth saving the $300-400 any place would charge you.

Exactly. Thanks for the tip on the studs, I was puzzled for half an hour and was afraid I missed some bolts.

Hey, I might suggest that you look at the upper intake manifold. Make sure you check the valves just inside of the upper intake where it mates with the lower intake. A common problem is the screws will back out of the valve and fall into the intake valves area and make its way in the cylinder. On my 2005 Tucson the screws backed out. Most of the screws and butterfly valves fell away for the air channel and was fine, but one screw make it past and bent a intake valve. When I took the upper intake apart to investigated it, the rod holding the butterfly valves was broken in have and messed up the upper intake and I have to replace it. If you find a loose valve, I would take the upper intake apart and make sure to tighten them. I might even suggest removing the screws that hold the butterfly valves to the rod and add some lock tight to the screw when you put them back. PS I'm not a mechanic but I can do a lot of repairs myself. This was a great video. When I removed my upper intake, I took it all off. If you do that there are 4 bolts holding the part you didn't take off to the engine and various holes.

OK, I finished the work of replacing spark plugs, spark plug wires and coil pack. This video is very helpful to open the Intake manifold. Thank you pjbuttertime. I can tell you that the design is really bad. After removing all bolts that hold the manifold it's still very difficult to remove it. You know why? it's because the fixed bolts on back left side and front left side are sticking out and touch the manifold very tight when you lift it. I tried many times and it was stuck there. I had to put a lot of WD-40 to finally take it out. When I put it back I saw the bolt on front left side and the hole on the manifold were off by nearly 1 cm. How stupid is that? Ah Hyundai? And here is the summary of bolts and nuts that I had to remove in order to remove the manifold: 4 nuts that are fixing the metal stabilizing bar. Remove the bar and it's easier to do the rest. 4 bolts that are fixing the engine cover 1 bolt on the guard on the left side that prevents taking out the long bolt at the bottom of left back end of the manifold. 1 long and 1 short bolt on left side 1 nuts and 2 bolts on back total 8 small bolts that holding the cable and solenoids 2 long bolts on top front 3 mid length bolts on front 2 nuts on front sides Total: 29. You would need 10 mm, 12 mm and 14 mm short and long sockets to do the work. You need metric standard tools. if you use imperial tools you may strip and nuts and bolts and add more difficulty to the work. Had I known the time and hassle to work on this I probably would not do it myself. But for the work I did it would definitely cost good money. I had worked on Toyota, Honda, VW on similar work and there were all simpler and easier that this damned Hyundai.

Take your time and don't rush. Keep all the parts, bolts, nuts and etc. in order as your remove. Makes it easy to put back together. Be careful with the plastic sensor connectors, they break easy when you disconnect especially because of heat and as they age. This is a pretty easy job if you know what you are doing. Good luck.

This video is somewhat helpful, but I would like to add my own personal experience with removal of the intake manifold. First and foremost you won't have a very easy time removing the manifold without removal of at least one of the studs. I removed the front two using the jam nut technique. After that, the manifold slid off without struggle. If this is your first time doing this project, plan on taking pictures of the process as you go. Their are a lot of bolts and screws as well as connections that need reomved. Also be sure to keep the manifold/engine clean of debris.

Hi Play doh: I am NOT a mechanic, I'm a carpenter. I work on my own vehicles so take my observation as you deem fit. I run used vehicles exclusively and muddle through some repairs after researching something I do not know. A 2008 Kia Rondo 165,000 miles and an F250 with 140,000miles. I paid about 14k for the both of them in spring of 2013. Don't want to bore you with minutia. You asked about gaskets. For as cheap as the gaskets are, you might as well. Also, consider replacing the coil packs while you are in there (if you have the funds for that). I'd replace the O2 sensor as well if it's accessible at the time of the plus. It all comes down to one question. Once you have the thing apart, do you want to spend a few extra $$$$ then for plug wires, coil packs, O2 sensor, etc. when you got the thing opened up? Or do you want to take a chance that those items won't need to be replaced sooner rather than later? If you are fixing the car for resale, it is an easy call to skip the other items since you will not get your money back. Hey Yall! I need some help on this one. My bride's 2007 Tucson SE 2.4L V-6 2WD. I cannot locate the 3rd ("hidden Hyundai bolt") fastener on the right rear of the plenum (aka surge tank), viewed from standing in front of the vehicle. I'm a 3 score & 10 year old HONDA motorcycle tech (emeritus) and this puppy has me stumped. Hoping someone who has been bitten by this particular snake, reads this comment and responds. The factory service manual and ALL RU-vid videos show marked differences compared to my unit with none corresponding as to the location of the "right rear" 8mm bolt with the 12mm head. Which is now the only item preventing plenum removal at this point. ???
