This video is a step by step of my process to create a fake patina paint job. I hope this helps anyone who watches it be able make there custom ride look the way they want! Thanks for watching!
I was looking for something like this. Most of the videos shows you how to fake patina from light colors to dark. You are showing it from dark to light. I have a 79 chevy van in dark blue. Im use your idea. Thanks
Good vid, and thank you for calling it fake patina, not patina paint job or something like that. Real patina is only created by mother nature. but alot of other channels think that it isn't because it's so popular right now.
Fastastic job!!! I'm building a 1958 GMC 100 patina truck on my channel (Midwest Patina Werks) and I have question... what color Blue are you using here?
Less is more... Beware of overdoing it... Best way is to go around the countryside, take photos of old cars with natural "decay"... Patina is never symmetrical on a vehicle... Left-hand drive differ from righthand, and so on... But Job well done, young man 👌🏻
You my friend are an ARTIST!!!! I never thought to use water as part of the spray process. It's game changing. The idea I suppose is to not overthink it. Well done. Subbed, you will go far and get better and better with camera and editing. Keep the videos coming!!!
Thank you for taking the time to watch my process! Definitely not overthinking is key. Will definitely be working on improving editing and camera work. Check out my instagram for picture of the truck when it was done being painted.
Great job! Looks very real and natural. Another guy I watched did the wet/wet approach, & he smeared (blended) it with a greasy shop glove. Looked amazing. Great work & im about to subscribe!
I’ve been looking for a method to achieve this look and you really nailed it to my eyes. I absolutely love it. I know it would work with any color as the “”original paint” and I didn’t even consider a blue as that color but after seeing this I’m going with a similar blue. The contrast between the blue and the rust is nice and it looks like a blue that would’ve been used in the late 40s to 50s I think. Thanks for this. I’ve subscribed because I can’t wait to see more of your ideas
i have 68 pick up with the perfect patina never been painted original blue paint job from factory but i hate patina it looks like someone had no money or care on the rig to me . i will be painting my rig which will make a few people i know mad because it has the perfect patina . best part i only have 2000 in my rig with a stroke 454 with 02xx trans new tail gate oak wood floor in box all painted under side rebuilt suspension, new lines, 12 bolt possi. the dash all rebuilt with full factory gauges with factory tach full movement electric heated leather seats 70 blazer center console do plan on getting tilt wheel and 2 inch drop spindles with disc breaks all ready has from factory power steering and power breaks with a set of rally wheels and i still have the 327 and 400 turbo that was rebuilt before i got the truck just they had no idea on how to put it in the rig after having it rebuilding it they thought they lost the cam but they had it 180 out i just moved the wire and started it and drove it home for 500 bucks rust free 68 pu but i gave the 327 to my kid for his 67 pu
I wasn't expecting much, but I gotta say I'm impressed. Get yourself a camera person/ editor. I'd really like to get a little more insight into your technique, skill, what you're thinking seeing etc. As you work with the paint. You'd be a great instructor.
Great minds think alike! I just did a finish like this on a vintage bicycle I just resto-modded. The bike was originally dark brown. I overlaid it with red-oxide primer then a light coat of satin black. let it dry then rubbed it down with a green 3M scrubbing pad in the places i wanted to show wear. The result is a lot more subtle than many fauxtina jobs, but far more convincing. Your Apache hood looks great brother, nice work!
Dominick there are a few videos on here that show how to patina ,but you did a better job than most ive seen .... looks closer to the real thing than most ..great job ....have you ever tried (dawn power wash) other than soapy water, should be posting a DIY video on it soon ......ps keep those vids coming
I am stoked you found it helpful! Send me some pictures to my website or email when you are done so I can check it out! Thanks for watching! Djscustoms25@gmail.com
Thank you for watching! If you try it on a test piece you will definitely be able to tell. It blocks the paint from getting to the surface. Leaving whatever color is behind it in the small water drop size. Looks like when rust is just staring to break through fresh paint. Hope that helps.! Thanks again for watching
This is a fantastic video great job. As soon as I started watching it I thought that's the dude that was on Ford ERA installing the Cummins. Thanks for posting, very helpful as I am finishing up a 1961 Chevy Apache.
I'm shortening my 66 c10 and I'm really considering a faux patina paint job on it. I built one car with really nice paint and I was just stressed all the time about it especially with my young kids around. I love this look and I want to not be afraid to drive my truck and enjoy it and let my kids hang all over it if they want. Thanks for sharing some great techniques!
That is what it’s all about man! I totally agree nice paint is not worth the stress on something you intend to drive all the time! Hope it helped! Send me some pictures of you decide to do it!
@@djscustoms Well I've still got a lot of work ahead over this winter before I get to the paint. Either way, I want to get this thing back on the road by Spring/Summer to start making memories with my family.
Mate that looks awesome. How many cans of paint did you go through for the cab and front panels? How does the cost compare? Looks like it would be fairly cost efficient against the cost of a normal paint job. Heading over to Insta to get a look at the finished product and i'll check out your other videos.
Thanks man! I appreciate you taking the time to watch! I want to say it was like $75 in spray paint and $120 in the clear coat. I think 4 5 cans of brown shades and like 6-7 cans of the base color!
So no sanding at all needed once you lay down paint to achieve look..Can you add the link or description of the colors you used to get this look. I know you quickly said it but it would help..
Glad to hear it was helpful! If you have instagram give me a follow and send me over your projects so I can see how you use it! Thank you for watching!!
One of the best “patina” paint techniques I’ve seen on here. Paul Bacon at kustomworks over my side of the pond has a very good one as well. I’m definitely going to have a go at mine mine now
Patina = lazy. Any real car collector will tell you that patina does NOT add value to a vehicle. Patina look is a modern fad/trend due to the laziness of younger buyers and drivers. Sort alike motorcycles being painted flat black nowadays so the owner doesn't have to wash and polish it as much. Yes, you did a good job but if you are going to that much trouble, paint it correctly and have something that looks like you really care and are above dumb trends.
Appreciate the input! Not sure why you would take the time to watch a video on patina. We enjoy patina because we drive the hell out of these vehicles and don’t have to worry about someone Leaning on the car/truck and putting a blemish on a 20k plus paint job. I don’t know about you but k drive my truck all over the Country to shows and daily drive it rain or shine and in the winter. I personally do every part of the build beside upholstery. All fab work all metal work. Motor builds, transmission builds, wiring you name it.. I wouldn’t call that lazy in the least bit. Thanks for watching! Don’t scratch your paint!
@@djscustoms I do everything but upholstery myself. I love fab work. You mix a lot of apples and oranges here. What does me watching your vid on painting a patina scheme have anything to do with people wanting patina? I am damn good painter; I shouldn't be curious of your work or how you did it? A vehicle getting dirty from normal use is nothing directly about patina. You don't ever wash your vehicles? Someone can opt for a fake patina paint job and then still wash it and wax it. So that someone should let the patina paint job go to patina naturally? Okay, well wipe your ass then take a shit. It make no sense. And last but not least, what does your skill level and skill set have a damn thing do with accepting patina as lazy? You are mixing issues over board here. The laziness, as mentioned, is about people not wanting to take care of and maintain a nice paint job and opting for a look (patina) that does not require them to attend to it. It has nothing to do with what YOU are capable of doing on a vehicle. And you know what, if my vehicle gets a scratch, I damn sure will fix it and I will smoke your ass at any car show because I did. LOL. Right? It is about standards. Meaning that if you think patina is an acceptable choice over dong it right, then you are the guy that will not take care of the little things that will have you finish behind guys like me that do. Your contradiction is that you painted a vehicle to be patina because in actuality you did not really want it to be patina. You could have done it with 10 bucks of sandpaper and some chemicals and saved a lot of time and money. Keep up the great work and keep those videos coming!!!! Awesome stuff.
@@djscustoms you couldn’t have said that, any better than that. Not everyone wants a Trailer Queen. I want to drive and park anywhere I want, and not have to worry about someone coming close me or even tapping my car or truck.
