Here's a tip for spray painting sections of this type of fence. I hope I can make this understandable, stack the sections on top of or in front of each other in a slightly staggered pattern as so when you look at the sections you see all of the PVC pipes from the front to the back. This way you get more coverage per pass of the rattle can with less waist due to over spray. I hope this makes sense, it really saves time and resources.

Definitely the most awesomely decorated house in the neighborhood! The fence really adds so much to your spooky effect. I don’t think I’d ever put this much work into decorating my house, but I enjoyed seeing how you did it.

Thanks so much for this video. I’m nearly done building 3 panels using your design. I did drop the top rail down 3”, like you wished it was lower. Painting takes awhile. The Rustoleum spray paint is worth the expense than buying the cheap project paint. A can of Rustoleum goes a lot further per can.

@@erikgoodwin I used to do that too. I loved Halloween more than Xmas! We moved to an acreage about 4 years ago. And while that is awesome to have our livestock and privacy, it is just too far out of town for trick or treaters, and too far out to bother decorating, and I am getting scared that I am starting to lose my Halloween spirit. I am thinking of building props, decorations, and perhaps costumes to sell and try to keep my Halloween spirit alive even though I can't actually take part in Halloween anymore. Nice tutorials, please keep them coming.

very informative, I never thought about the 'treated ' furring strips' ive always used the cheapy 98 cent ones for mine, not much quality and hard to find straight ones- very prone to warping I may decide to use higher quality on the fence-

I just built 2 fences 8 foot long. Wasnt hard at all. I used the 1x2 and paddle bit which was very harsh to the wood using a compact. Worked out fine. After creating 1 8 foot length with holes, that became my stencil to build more easily and faster. The dollar store has broom stick handles for a buck. So i had bought plenty for the fence built. I didnt put the wave in the fence built but im gonna build more fences for the rest of my yard with the staggering height to add the wave. The fence felt sturdy and strong. I didnt add the 4 inch rings but i did add skulls for every other opening. Came out very nice. I bought the same finials like your and i actually advise they are very sharp. I would suggest to buy the quad flare finials they look a bit taller and also have the ball on top so if anyone knocks it down by accident the finial wont punture the person. Just my opinion. Happy haunting. I also didnt use 18 holes i did 12. So maybe thats why the skulls fit perfectly. Cost would be very cheap. I would say 20 bucks a fence without skulls and paint and fenials. Okay so maybe 35 bucks now a fence.

This can also depend on the size of your plastic rings. I did a similar build using a double ring motif, both for appeal and to lighten the weight slightly (less pvc bars per each fence section). I noticed, depending on which kind of pipe you get to slice out the rings, the inner/outter wall thickness are different, so the over all space between pipe and rings has to be measured caefully. But everything in this video is spot on, and I wish i had used the treated strip instead of my 1x2s. The warping and twisting of the cheaper boards is not worth the cost savings.

Great job, rhinking of possibly doing something like this. My opinion, paint the pieces before you build it. There is a lot of empty space in the completed sections. Then touch up any marks.
@SpiderwoodCemetery
@SpiderwoodCemetery 2 года назад
I tried that on the first few sectiosn for my own build, but ended up scrapping it because so much paint scraped away during construction and running the pvc through the three diferent boards. I had originally layed out all my pipes and sprayed everything to not waste paint, then rotated them all together and repeated. Probably a little more efficient, but the constant retouches during assembly was frustrating, and so I opted to just spray it all down once it was locked in..

Awesome tutorial! Thank you for sharing your creativity. One question I have always had, is for DIY prop and decoration makers, WHERE do you store your creations in the off season? I had some of mine stored in our garage, maybe you are fortunate enough to not have the problems I do, but I found out the hard way that mice LOVE to chew up that foam insulation and other materials to make their nests 😥

Can I ask about how much it cost you to do all of the fence including the skulls? Also, what was the total time invested to make it?
@CharlesOlcott
@CharlesOlcott 2 года назад
Can't speak to the time, but I was just pricing up what it would cost to replicate this myself from my local Lowes and finials online, and as of the time of commenting this, it works out to about $75 dollars per 8' length in materials, plus whatever paint/caulking you go with. I'm sure that can fluctuate depending on where you source your PVC though. I see PVC being offered on Marketplace or other sites for cheap or even free quite often.

WDSIV I plan to post the pillar video very soon. They are made from 2x4, 1x2, underlayment plywood, and foam board. The wind took the fence down once so I went back and drilled some holes into the base of the pillars and drove concrete rebar through it to secure to the ground

@@erikgoodwin yeaaaah my bf just did 1.5 8ft boards and realized he did them 4 inches apart from the middle of each hole…but didn’t think about the whole being 7/8 inch and the holes are actually too close together now for the rings…we don’t have the pvc for the 1 inch rings yet so we weren’t thinking. Did you just measure from the outside of each hole? That’s what’s tricky.
