My favorite picture of my mother when she was younger is when she was sitting in one of those big BoHo Raton chairs :-) bless you sister from your fellow mother of many in Colorado:)

So brave to paint black in a white shirt! I am totally impressed, I could not do it without ruining the shirt:)

We also always kiss and hug in the morning and before sleeping. The dark tones with the terracotta look great. We used to have a dark forest green in our bedroom and now it is white with greenery from plants and such instead, which I really like. All of our rooms had color on the walls, but now they are all white with other colors to set tones around it. I love the backsplash your husband put up. My dad was a carpenter/contractor and he never did anything in our home growing up haha. Our date nights are at home most of the time. We used to take our kids out on our dates with us and it was really wonderful for us. We only had our children watched a handful of times in total ever. We don't go anywhere without our kids until they are older. Our children were 12 and older when we finally went on date nights alone.

Thank you, Friend! I just love reading your comments, there was one recently I still haven't replied to, but I'm meaning to! My biological dad and step dad both were carpenters too! I'm curious did you not leave the kids because you try to practice a more attachment parenting style? That is probably the style that most closely aligned with my husband and I.

I think we "accidentally" did the attachment parenting style. Also, we just didn't have the money to really go on dates for a long time. We also just really enjoyed being together as a family and our kids were always well behaved on our outings with them. My husband is the "stay at home after work" type and I am a morning person who gets everything done and winds down at the end of the day. Sometimes it is just easier to hang out having cocoa together, watching movies together, or just hanging out having discussions at home in a room. We went on loads of dates when we were dating/early married and before having kids (since we started dating at 16/17 years old and our first was born when we were 23/24). We are never bored as long as we're together. I think a lot of married couples might become that way and dates are supposed to liven that up to keep them connected, perhaps? @@mountainmamashome

When we were a young couple, money was very tight, and traveling or expensive dinners were out of the question. Looking back I was very inventive for affordable dates with my husband. Once I made picnic style food (I think it was pasta salad), I drove us (we had a suburban) out in the country parked in the farm land, hung pictures from the hooks in the back, laid the seats all down, and had small crates where i placed candles and our plates, and I had an oldies tape playing. That was so much fun! We ate, we danced, my husband still recalls that date, and so do I. By the way, we would trade babysitting with other couples from church who had small children as well, so we could all afford to have alone time. Another time I made spaghetti, put a Italian style checkered table cloth on the picnic table outside, played Italian music, and instead of eating utensils, I gave us each a pair of gloves. My husband was shocked, but we laughed so hard, it was really fun, and believe it or not romantic too! Thirty-four years later we are still enjoying the simple times together.

I love all of your home projects! Your home looks so warm and inviting. Thank you for sharing your home and your life with us. It's so important to take time for our spouse even if it is little things like a hug and kiss or even a smile and a kind word. I love your verse of the day. When I was younger, I would hold on to my anger if my husband did something that I didn't agree with. As I 've grown in my walk with the Lord, I've changed. My relationship with my husband is much stronger. We talk right away and get things worked out. Not letting the sun go down on your anger is so important for a good healthy marriage.

When my husband was in seminary they recommended that they date their wives with weekly or monthly date nights. We've literally never been able to implement this, it so unrealistic. For one thing, paying a babysitter is not in our budget; I have trust issues because of a sitter who abused my brother so I don't leave my kids with anyone; and we live 6 hrs from any family....so our date nights include an occasional bottle of red wine, kids to bed a little early and a movie. We have been married 15 yrs have 4 kids and we're more in love now than ever. Sate nights does not equal healthy marriage ;)

Thank you for sharing this. Yes, weekly date nights are unrealistic for the majority and I truly believe couples need more practical advice and to hear stories like yours of what has worked. Thank you again for sharing!

We could never afford 'date night' either. I WAS fortunate that my parents live nearby & are wonderful grandparents, so i could ask them to babysit once in a while. But things were tight, so what can you go do??? My husband was very new in recovery, so for the first couple of years, our 'date night' was a weekly AA meeting 🤣🤣🤣🤣. He worked afternoon shift & could only go to mtgs on Saturday night & got voted the 'coffee maker' so he could not skip the mtg; he had the keys! I even went into labor with our first child at the mtg. For a couple of years my parents could watch our daughter & that is where we went on our date. LOL. Well, 20 years later we are still together & he just celebrated 22 years sober, so it must have worked. LOL $ is so much better now, but we have found that we actually get along much, much better when we are broke. When no one has money, no one gets what they want - it is very democratic.😂Seems like when there is $ kicking around, everyone has a differing idea of how it ought to be spent & arguments start.

I found you a few months ago, and i sooo appreciate your positive and encouraging outlook to life! Im enstranged from my family and hearing your wisdom is like listening to a mother i never had. My husband and I have been married for 10 yrs and never had date nights although its something we want to do now that my baby goes to bed at 8 with my 3 other kids. Just low key, blow up an air mattress beside the Christmas tree and put on a movie and eat pizza and ice cream. 😄 And hugs and communication every day is so important. I love your style the bedroom and podcast wall are beautiful. Its wonderful to see you do what you can and be content with that, while looking to the future where you can improve it.

Your home is coming together beautifully! The rattan chair, we call it a peacock chair because of the back fanning, lol. I had 2 of them at one point in my home but with youngsters and animals they got destroyed, 😥. I even put lights around the fan part at Christmas time. I especially love your bedroom! Who am I kidding, I love your home, period! Great job!

Peacock chair, that's the name I was trying to remember but couldn't! I had one before this and it didn't stand a chance with my kiddos either, lol! I think our dog did a number on it when she was a puppy too. Thank you so much for the kind words, that mean's a lot, Sharon! Thank you for being a member too, we appreciate you!

I totally vote for games, movies, talking, sitting outside with a fire pit, cooking together... At home is how we have done dates. I don't know where the money and ability would come from. I know that where we used to live a lot of people we knew had their family watch and play with children. We have never had family relationships plus having special needs children the separation alone would be so unbearable for our kids when they were little. We were made fun of for that. Which lets face it, that's just adult bullying. The special time that the dates at home have allowed is priceless!!!

I truly love your videos, you give such valuable advice that I appreciate so much! I see in your bio where to find the music in your video, but I am having trouble finding the song in the beginning! Can you please let me know who sings it and or the name of the song? I just love her voice so much and think that everytime I watch your videos 😅
