I am excited to add a new Denon AVR X3700H receiver and a Klipsch R 12SW to my home theater. This video is the unboxing of these two components. I am currently going to have a 7.2.2 Dolby Atmos set up with 8K capability. I will also have the ability to have a 7.2.4 Dolby Atmos system with an additional amplifier in the future. Please like and subscribe as I implement both of these components into my theater and future upgrades. Thank you for watching!

I'm in the process of buiding a 5.1.2 Dolby Atmos system, I have a Klipsch R-120SWi Wireless Subwoofer, Klipsch R-41M Bookshelf Home Speakers, Klipsch RC42IIBL Center Speaker, and old Pioneer Height speakers and Sony rears with a Pioneer VSX935 7.2 Channel Network AV Receiver. Vewing on a TCL 65" QLED 4k tv. My center channel speaker comes in tomorrow so I'm excited!

You Made the Unboxing the Klipsch Subwoofer to difficult. All you have to do is open the top, fold them back out of the way and leaving the styrofoam in place, roll it upside down on the floor and lift the box off. Pull the plastic bag down around the sides and then roll the sub upright on it's rubber feet and the pull the bag off. It's Much easier. P.S. I just purchased 2 of these up at Costco for $149.99 each. Great deal.

I purchased 2 of the Klipsch R-12SW from Costco for $149.99 each on 03/24/2021. Here we go. First off this Sub-woofer sounds decent. After listening to this at moderate volume for 5 days I decided to run some test. But first I run a Sub-woofer Sine Wave Break-in on youtube just to be sure it was broke in. After that, I setup my mini dsp UMIK-1 and using the latest version of REW/Room EQ Wizard to begin my measurements. I tried this in multiple locations and got pretty much the same results. I had these hooked up on my Denon AVR-2807 Receivers LFE output, crossover set at 250Hz and the Klipsch R-12SW crossover set all the way up to LFE. These measured -3db at 40Hz where below this, these fall off a cliff and are down 10db at 30Hz. There is a +3db hump from 50 to 70 Hz and the down -3db at 90Hz where the sub-woofer continues to roll off up to 250Hz. I also stuffed the ports with Acousta Stuff damping material, this actually made the performance slightly better at the bottom at the same time eliminating the Port Chuffing. The Green line on the Frequency response graph is port plugged the Red is not. I then decided to pull out the woofer and measure the power output into a 200 watt 4 ohm Dummy Load Resistor. 16 volts=64 watts was clean. 17 volts is where the peaks of the wave form were getting jagged and got worse up to 20 volts, just past 20 volts it wold drop back to 18 Volts Measured output was 20 volts max which into a 4ohm load is 100 watts. I believe the amplifier has a built in limiter as I could not get the peaks of the wave form to flatten out indicating clipping, they just got very jagged as I turned it up past 16 volts. 20 volts +100 watts was MAX! I returned these to Costco 03/03/2021. I really wanted these to work out but I just can't get over the fact that these did not come close to performing to their advertised specifications. I am very disappointed in Klipsch. I will never trust their advertised Specifications again. Consumers should be able to make educated decisions on what the manufactures advertise. It is getting more and more not to be the case. I have seen so many positive reviews on these Klipsch R-12SW and that is what I based my decision to purchase these. I am the only person I know of whom actually went through the process of testing and literally taking these apart to do actual measurements. I hope that this helps others to make a more informed decision. Good Day.

Holly smokes! You went above and beyond. With the two of these in my theater they sound really good. Sorry they did not meet your needs. Let me know what you ended up settling on for subs.

That's some interesting testing. You didn't say, but I trust when you did the load testing you had the sub still connected and probe wires going through the port with the speaker remounted. I ran into a rating issue using an old amp dyno because the class D amplifier I was testing would limit itself when there wasn't the expected type of load from a sub... connecting the sub and using an oscilloscope would yield closer to rated values whereas the amp dyno claimed a 50% overrating. I just bought the R-12SW myself and immediately noticed the very low frequency fall off and the over-accentuated hump makes it more obvious. I fixed that with an equalizer as I want the sound to be more balanced. The result is a nice clean, balanced, sound to match with the six Polk surrounds and Definitive center powered by my Denon AVR. Connecting to an HTPC has its advantages for sound tuning ;-)

Why does it need an external amp for an additional two height speakers while it has 4 height outputs in the back? I am confused.

How do you connect the klipsch subwoofer to the denon receiver? The subwoofer isn’t connecting and having trouble figuring it out

How do you plug that subwoofer to the receiver? It has 2 connector to 2 connectors and the receiver have 1 hole for the subwoofer.
@JasonWhitakerTheDIYDAD
@JasonWhitakerTheDIYDAD 2 года назад
Use a subwoofer "Y" cable to each sub. Then use a single sub cable back to the receiver. In the settings you then configure the system for two subs. Super easy. Thanks for watching.

Hi mate! Tell me please what kind of subwoofer I need for this amplifier? Active for passive? I'm looking for Bose Module 700. Cheers,
@JasonWhitakerTheDIYDAD
@JasonWhitakerTheDIYDAD 3 года назад
You would need an active sub with this receiver. The 700 module you are looking at will work. There are other subs you can get too if you want to spend less money and still get quality sound. For the price of the 700 you can get two Klispch subs for less and fill the entire room. Just a thought. Thanks for watching!

I might have to settle for something cheap for now, as my old Sony is dying, but this level of a Denon is what I'm after... I think the way I will add amplification later to get all 11 channels will be to amplify the front stage... L,R,C. Those seem like they'd free up the most power to subtly all the heights and surrounds off of the receiver unit. Not sure if my space needs more than 5.1.2, but hey...I will add speakers and try it, probably won't need a second sub... when I add too many I can pass them along to a kid and stop adding...lol How do you like that avr and sub after some use ?

Will the Denon support a 7.2.4 set up without a separate amp?
@JasonWhitakerTheDIYDAD
@JasonWhitakerTheDIYDAD 2 года назад
No. You can do 5.2.4 or 7.2.2. You will need an additional receiver or amp to get 7.2.4 using this receiver. Or you can upgrade to a higher end Denon if you don't have the space.
