Whitney gurl, you have been my savior! I started to grow out my relaxer in 2011. In 2012 I was diagnosed with breast cancer and by Feb 2013 I was completely bald. I now have a head full of natural curly hair. Not sure of the type but it's tightly coiled, soft and thick when it's not stretched out. I started watching your tutorials about two months ago. Your hair was/is extremely long. I recently stumbled upon your BC videos and was completely amazed at how long your hair is today from your BC a few years ago. My length is about chin length when it's in its curly stage. I am following your videos from that stage and you have given me so many wonderful ideas. Thanks Sistah Gurl!!!! BTW you have a beautiful family. I loved the Pats gear!! Yes, I am from Boston too!!! Keep up the great work girl!! God Bless Keitha B.

Hey Guys!! You'll know you're protein sensitive if your hair feels dry, brittle, or is broken after applying a protein-rich product or deep conditioner! For example, my DIY Mayo and Greek Yogurt DCs are SUPER protein-rich. My hair likes that and feels stronger and healthier after application. Someone with a protein sensitivity is going to feel the opposite: lots of damage, dull strands, straw-like texture, etc... If you haven't experienced this already and you've used a protein-rich product, it's likely you don't have a protein sensitivity! XoXo!

I appreciate finally seeing this post that's made not only from easy to find ingredients, but VEGAN ingredients! Thank you so much! I know you probably didn't plan on making this vegan, but I appreciate it all the same. Thank you, Whitney!

GREAT video Whitney! I'm not sure if I'm protein sensitive, I'll have to look deeper into that! I had no idea aloe vera juice can strengthen your hair, I'm learning so much! Today was hair wash day and between your video and the wonderful kikicouture10 Straight to Curly/DC video I watched earlier, I've got so many treatments I want to try! I don't eat bananas but I will have to buy them for my hair! I don't consume honey either but I sure did buy some to put on my hair and I'm sure I'll do the same for avocados, yogurt, eggs and olive oil! My sister was already asking to use my honey when she visited and I'm like "naw that's hair honey!" and I'm pretty sure I'll be like "no those are my hair eggs and yogurt!" Thanks for sharing and what a FABULOUS twist out my friend, your hair definitely looked super duper moisturized! I hope you guys have a WONDERFUL week, and GREAT vlog today too!

I seriously tweaked this recipe using treseme naturals conditioner as a base, half of an avocado (I am allergic to bananas) half a can of low fat coconut milk (bought at the 99cent store), honey, grapeseed and rosemary oil. Let me tell you, my hair hasn't felt so soft and shiny in ages. Thank goodness for Whitney ***** for coming up with this recipe because it works some insane magic in the hair of this protein sensitive natural. Would have never thought to try this recipe or tweak it if not for ms Whitney.

Hey Nap! First off...you are the bomb! My sis and I were talking about how much we love your videos and try everything you say. Lol! Anyways, this is a none hair related question but doesn't it get annoying to get asked questions you've already answered? Do you ever think...did you watch my video on mute? Lol! Seriously though I do have a few questions: 1) how can I tell if I'm protein sensitive 2) is this a leave in & 3) what did you do after you rinsed out the conditioner? Lol! Jk. Beautiful hair as usual. Thank you for everything you share with us and not being selfish when you learn more! Just ordered the curlformer dupe & I'm excited to try them. Oh, & I love this condish...did it last week & I'm approaching the end of my 3 min now (2nd x). Hairs loving it :)

I have curly hair but it super super super dry! What do you recommend other than this treatment ...shampoo, conditoners and so on? also, what do you recommend for hair growth?
@ICJC6
@ICJC6 10 лет назад
Whitney Martin I have very dry hair also. I use L'Oreal's EverSleek "Sulfate free smoothing system." It is the one in the orange bottles for "frizzy unruly hair" haha. I really like this line because it is very gentle if you want to use the shampoo (only on the scalp), and the conditioner is nice and mosturizing and has great slip. The formula's are sulfate, silicone, and paraben free. I have looked into their types that say they are formulated for curly hair, but they have silicones or aren't sulfate free.

My review on this treatment: I did it exactly as described and it loosened my curls and defined them. The one thing that shocked me was how smooth my ends were!! I did my big chop a month ago and my ends were super frizzy, dry to the touch and even felt hard and different from the rest of my hair. The next day when my hair dried...my ends are no longer feeling that way!!! OMG Will be using this again and again and again! Thank You!

This morning my hair had NO tangles, it was soft and smelled delicious! I have never gotten those results from store bought deep conditioners!

What I truly enjoy about your videos is that hair type never comes to mind when I'm watching your videos. Your videos always make me incredibly determined & believe that I really can get my hair to be as healthy & beautiful as yours (even though I totally love my kinks). According to the Hair Typing Chart, I'm 4C & it's a popular belief that my hair isn't as pretty or will never reach the length your hair has. But I just shake out my hair & continue. Why? Because of natural hair leaders like you. Thanks for continuously restoring my hope~

Love, love, love this conditioner!!! Two weeks ago I made this conditioner I left it on for probably 3 hours as I cleaned, cooked and loafed around the house with my head wrap in a towel to hold the heat in. When I took the plastic cap off I LOVED how soft, and surprising tangle free, my hair felt. The smell of bananas was AMAZINGLY YUMMY. Since it was optional I just rinsed, I did not was the conditioner out. This past weekend I left the conditioner in for maybe 1 hour and this time I washed it out. I was not as happy with the end results. So, I already have a banana browning and I hope to find a nice ripe avocado today so I can repeat this weekend, leaving the conditioner in as I did the first week. Thank you for so much for advise given freely. Blessings to you and yours.

So happy to hear about someone addressing "protein sensitivity." Although I am not certain if I have a protein sensitivity & will have to test a small area of hair to determine if I do, has anyone ever heard of an "oil sensitivity"? After using oils, I definitely experience the same negative characteristics (i.e. straw hair, dry stringy strands that feel like they have been stripped & broken to one dry strand that is experiencing breakage, & overall, hair that starts thinning & shedding) that Naptural85 mentions when describing "protein sensitivity." I experience these negative characteristics when I do a hot oil treatment with my hair using extra virgin olive oil, definitely when I use almond oil, and/or with avocado oil, coconut oil & macadamia nut oil used in a mixture. Even when I use all of these oils mixed with Shea butter to make a concoction similar to Naptural85's Shea butter mix, I definitely experience those negative characteristics two days after I take out braids or twists outs after using the oils mixed with Shea butter. With all this said, Naptural85 do you think I have an "oil sensitivity"? I would also love to hear anyone else's comments of feedback as well regarding an "oil sensitivity" & if it exists or if I am experiencing some other kind of problem. Thank you Naptural85 (aka Whitney :) for all the wonderful, helpful, informative videos. Always a pleasure to see your beautiful family & that gorgeous little baby girl as well. Keep 'em coming! :)

I have never heard of oil sensitivity, I would try teating oils one by one to check out the one causing this. Also oil is not a moisturizer it seals in moisture so if your not adding a moisturizer before oil then your hair is going to be dry. If you find that your hair doesnt like any then there are many replacements to oil for sealing in moisture ei butter, creams, lighter sealants etc ☺️😊

Okay so I just tried this and my hair loved it! Mine was a super runny because the coconut milk was really runny, no solids. I used the olive oil and a capful of glycerine since I didn't have the other oils she used and my hair is so soft and moist! This will definitely be my go-to deep conditioner!

omg so happy! I just finished using this. It smells sooooo good. I was so tired of smelling mayo and nasty raw eggs, the greek yogurt was a bit better smelling, but still not pleasant. This smells like a yummy fruity drink and it's super hydrating to my thick combo 4b/4c hair. My curls are just bouncing all around. I also replaced the olive oil with red palm oil, Super Hydrating. But be careful with red palm oil though, it stains clothes lightly.

Thank you Cin Derella !! Protein sensitivity is when you use a product, or mixture on your hair that contains high amounts of protein, or even low amounts, and instead of getting strong, shiny hair, your hair becomes brittle, dry, straw-like or even broken. If you've ever used a protein treatment in your hair and your hair wasn't damaged as a result, then you're not protein sensitive!

I think I would try each ingredient on it's own before you add it. My hair will take so much protein and Then let me know. So I can use it, just not copious amounts of it. If I use aloe vera in a mask one week, then I'm careful to not use it in anything else for a couple of weeks. It's all about Balance.

Thanks sooooooo much this conditioner is awesome!!!! I tried it last Sunday for myself and my daughters for our co wash and the results were a-m-a-z-i-n-g. I applied it as a co wash, and because it's for 3 of us I used 3 bananas, 2 cups of Aloe Vera Juice, and a full can of Coconut milk. As far as oils go I used Castor oil Argan Oil( my new go to oil. My hair looooves it), Olive Oil, Tea Tree Oil, and honey. I also used your co washing method. I have been protein sensitive all my life. I have used every protein conditioner known to man. I even used your yogurt conditioner and they all left my hair feeling the same way extremely stiff and dense. I eat slot of protein, but still have problems with breakage. Hopefully this will help a lot. I cannot thank you enough!!!

OooOOOooooOoohh SniZZaPp!! Hands down, THEE BEST deep conditioner I have EVER used! I have low porosity hair, except for the front of my hair which is SUPER POROUS and a completely different texture, so I always struggle with finding the right ingredients to treat both hair types. This is IT! I used the gel straight from the aloe vera plant and some liquid coconut milk (=diluted with water). My hair has never been this soft, manageable and voluminous.. And this is just day 1! Thank you soooo much for this easy, inexpensive recipe. We have similar textures (3c/4a) but definitely NOT the same hair type, because I tried your mayo/egg dc before and it was NOT a good time.. At all. Lol, love you Whit! xoxoxo from Amsterdam

I never thought of just applying deep conditioner to my hair, rinsing, and styling if I didn't need to co-wash that week. I may need to start doing this more often. The middle of my head is a lot coarser and drier than the rest of my hair! I suspect it is from a henna treatment from a few months ago, but since deep conditioning with heat, it is so soft. Can't wait to try this recipe! I always have bananas and coconut milk in my house :)

Mine came out really watery, couldn't find coconut milk as thick. Still used it though. Waiting to see the results in the AM! Lol.

if u store coconut mil, in the fridge it will thicken. u can also buy coconut CREME.

It depends on what you buy - some brands are made to stay liquidy because Western markets like them better. They have different additives that prevent the Coconut milk from becoming so solid. My favorite brand comes from an Asian market and only has coconut and water listed on the ingredients. Ingredients lists are super handy. :)

Thanks.. I did the ACV rinse last week and it was a disaster.... tragic. It stripped and severely dried and thus tangled my hair. The Coconut/Aloe/Banana hair smoothie is wonderful and brought me back to lifel!!! THANK U SO MUCH

@longyarn4288

Or just use the coconut milk to blend it and add water if it's too thick. Or! Make fenugreek seed tea and use That instead of the aloe vera juice. 🙄

I appreciate your video but honestly this doesn't make sense to me. I understand that everyone's hair is different but how can your hair be protein sensitive and love this protein based deep conditioner? My hair is protein sensitive and it HATES everything mentioned here. Bananas, Aloe Vera and coconut milk to name a few ingredients make my hair feel fried for weeks. I've tried everything and come to the conclusion that my hair hates every kind of protein.

Hey fam if your hair is reacting badly too proteins it might be because you already have enough. Your hair just needs to be moisturizer to balance out with the protein. Hope this helped!

@intika4530
@intika4530 8 лет назад
mel231 So what does a disclaimer have to do with the point I made? I also said that I am aware that everyone's hair is different but protein sensitive hair doesn't like this much protein that's why I find this confusing.

No hair is truly protein sensitive, just make sure you're using the correct form of protein aka a Hydrolyzed wheat protein. This is the only protein with a low enough molecular weight to penetrate the hair shaft. Using stuff like eggs and mayo as a protein treatment isn't going to do anything but make your hair hard and lead you to believe you are "protein sensitive", which isn't true! Hope this helps.
@irresistiblelipZ

where can I get more info about that?
@XenaCallisto
@XenaCallisto 8 лет назад
Check out GreenBeautyChannel's video on a 'Real Protein Treatment'. Here's a link to a hydrolyzed wheat protein with a short description of how/why it works: greenbeautyproducts.com/real-protein-treatment/ And, of course, take some time to do your own research on this protein and draw your own conclusions from the science of it. Hope this helps :)!

Dumb question but what does protein sensitive mean?!
@blackvelvet411
@blackvelvet411 10 лет назад
Essentially, it means when you apply protein rich products, your hair becomes extremely dry and brittle so you constantly have to read product lists to determine the amount of protein in it to see if it will work for your hair.

So I made this and it came out super watery, im guessing i used too much aloe vera juice, but nonetheless, i used it anyway. I dont waste anything around here. I put on my bonnet dryer for 15 minutes, rinsed, and apply oil. boy was my hair soft! Besides the Darcy's Botanicals Pumpkin Seed Conditioner, this is the only deep conditioner that got my hair really soft and moisturized. Thanks for this amazing recipe!

I tried this homemade conditioner and my hair felt and looked so freaking soft. It was also the first time, in a long time, that my hair was actually flat and smooth, thus giving it that beautiful shine!! This will definitely be a staple for my 4 b/c hair. I tried the egg, mayo, honey concoction you posted years ago and had a bad experience with my hair coming out easily. Thank you so much for sharing!! Now, what to do with this leftover coconut milk...

This recipe worked very well for my protein sensitive hair except I had to also tweak it a bit. I used 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise, 1 tablespoon honey, 1 teaspoon coconut milk (the rest I used for cooking :) ), 1 tablespoon avocado oil, 1 tablespoon grape seed oil, 1 teaspoon jamaican black castor oil. I put it in the fridge for a few minutes so it can be more solid. I then put in in my hair, used a handheld/travel hair steamer for 5 minutes (which you use to steam clothes) then covered my hair with a shower cap for another 25 minutes.
