It's September and the humidifier/mister is still running very well. I use hard well-water so once a month I soak the humidifier unit in some vinegar. Also if you have hard water, then occasionally throw out the old water and replace it all with new water because the concentration of calcium builds up in the left over water over time.

Yes, if you have hard water you'll get the mysterious white dust everywhere. We're on well water and that was problem, but then I bought a budget reverse osmosis kit from Reef Acquarium, and I fill the mister with RO water. That fixed the white dust and also I perform zero cleaning maintenance on the mister head. It's always clean. I've been using the RO kit for about two years.
