I have a late 2009 iMac but the cd drive I don’t know what you call this you the slot where you slide the disc it has like a made of fabric material I think is to protect the cd from scratches but if you know? Can I just remove off completely and the cd drive should still work right? Because mine broke and everytime I put a disc this fabric dust protector keeps getting in the way.
Hey my cd drive spins the CD twice after inserting and simply ejects it back out again. It doesn’t even spin it’s like it’s throwing up the CD as soon as I insert it? Could the drive just be mispositioned? Should I try removing the drive and re-fitting it ?? Idk what to do I don’t want to open up my MacBook and ruin something else please help it was working a week ago and nothing changed

FIXED MINE blocked by speaker out of place!: Mid 2010 MacBook Pro 13" dvd/cd drive could not insert a disc, opening blocked-couldn't insert disc!... Turns out it was the little subwoofer on that side was blocking the opening! I turned of the Mac and opened the removed the DVD drive to deal with the subwoofer. Turns out the after market speaker edge was too long so I had to use a rasp file and file that end, didn't expose a hole although there is a bass reflex hole close to the end. Then added contact adhesive or double sided tape to the flat ends of the woofer so that it would't pop out of it's pop in place when inserting the DVD drive has a center metal lip that fits into a matching indentation on the woofer. With the filing, the lip no longer pushed the woofer again the end and out of place. Hope this helps someone! My MacBook just keeps on going. Have replaced over the years myself: 2 batteries(Be sure to get apple brand, the first one wasn't and didn't last-now I don't use the battery if I can help it to extend it's lifetime), spinning drive replaced with solid state, 2 sets of speakers-the main speaker eventually goes out and then the volume is very low-after market main & 2 small woofers seem to work great till the die years later like the factory one did, replaced the mag charge cord in the power brick 5 times over the years-crack the brick open with screw driver and access the 2 wires to connect a new charge cord from ebay-tricky to do the first time but works and cheap like new fix!
That key is for a cheap lock which can be picked open within a few seconds, even by a novice lock picker, so the owner probably wasn't too worried about losing it.
