Just watched all 3 videos in this series. This was the most direct and informative DIY video of a seemingly scary project. It's 114 degrees out right now so I'm tackling the job in the morning with a new level of confidence. Thank you for this!

Good Video. After having a new pump sitting on the shelf for 2 months and trying to find someone who'd put it in for me at a decent price I finally decided to tackle it myself. Only problem I had was the quick connect fittings, one came off without problems but the other two I just couldn't get, so I snapped them off and pulled them out with needle nose pliers. Cheapest I could find someone to do the job was $150 and one other guy wanted $395. Now I have a working gauge again, yahooooo. Thanks

***** Thank you so much! I have a neighbor who's Blazer will not start and they said they need a new fuel pump. The shop was going to charge them $1200 to do it. They are not poor, but they are in a tight spot and I offered my services to do it for them for free. I just watched this video and feel totally confident now since you showed me how to do it! Thank you so much! I live in Arizona.. so I don't have the rust. The parts coming off of this truck look almost new! :)

***** Thank you sir. I will say I was able to loosen the tank strap bolt and the nut by hand. I didn't have nearly the issues you had. But I think you were still faster as I hate these fuel clips! :)

Thank you sooooo much for making this video. Was able to swap my fuel pump out from drop to test in 4 hours or less (drink and lunch after removal).
@SlijderinkS

Oh! One thing I did differently: Didn't drop the tank all the way...just completely on the rear strap and left about an inch on the forward strap on the bolt. Using a jack - lowered it to the level I needed to for access to the fuel pump. This gave me enough room to pull the fuel pump out and set the new one in.

Awesome set of videos Mark. Very helpful. Only thing I would have added would be to test the pump once you had it all connected before the final bit of slack from the straps. Ask me how I know. Thanks for the upload.

Thanks Mark. The best Videos that I have seen on the Tank issues yet and as I will be doing mine, I suspect, to locate a leak with engine running and am hoping it's just a broken /split gas line.

Three things that I also did, having done this on TWO 2000 S-10's (twice on the same truck), and currently on a 1999 Blazer 4 door: (1) I added an additional chassis ground about three feet long to go over to the frame directly across at the splice connection because the ground is all the way at the rear of the frame at the bumper (I think the ground at the rear was poor which caused the first pump to fail; that is what I found when installing the second pump: POOR GROUNDING!!!). (2) I used a little motor oil or petroleum jelly on the fuel inlet and vent tube rubber hoses to help them go on easier. (3) I used a ratcheting tie down strap under the fuel tank from the frame on both sides, in addition to the floor jack(s). This is SO much easier to make the fine adjustments when installing the tank, and also when lowering the tank as well. overall, a VERY good set of video instructions

Thanks Mark well i found that's not the problem because i still am getting gas leak from the exact hose/connection you broke off in the vid. I will check at the Chevy dealer to get that hard plastic hose, I might have blown a seal in there im not sure.

Good job!! I would recommend putting gas in the tank before turning the pump on,this will prevent the fuel pump from getting to hot.

Thanks for the helpful video. I attempted mine alone, i will say it was a bit difficult at times. First, i only have 1 big floor jack and a scissor jack, which really came in handy hahaha, because i attempted mine with the fuel still inside because i could not get the fill tubes off at either end for the life of me. Which im disappointed about because i couldnt clean my fuel tank, which i saw large rocks and all sorts of dirt inside, and that was with it dropped and angled, so lord know what bigger rocks rolled to the bottom when i had it hanging from the large tubes. The rocks i saw were about the size of beans.... but would could i do, i couldnt get the tubes off. They were loose, spinning, but with all my might and with the tank pulling it i couldnt get it pass the knuckle on the tube.. so i worked with it in there, fortunately im short enough i was able to remove the spare and fix it up in there, the lock ring definitely needed to be replaced, and the worse part is with alllll my hammering and chiisteling its barely locked on there and i mean barely. But no matter what i do it wont budge any further. One time i tried to hit it the opposite way to see how well its on there and it popped off real easy.. so i took more time trying to hammer it and well, i couldnt get it much further so today im going to get some steal jb weld and glue all around that thing hahaha, idk what else to do, and i dont want it poppin off when i go over a speed bump or something. . But my fuel level works now! My inconsistent mpg doesnt always seem to work, sometimes itll say 99 mpg when going up a hill, but it works for the most part, on average it says i get 17 mpg. Which isnt a lot but at least i know what my fuel level is at now! Hopefully, it says i have half a tank of gas which would be 9 gallons? Which is around 60 pounds?? And i mean, i definitely had a good amount of gas left in the tank, but i don't think it was that much.. id say maybe 5 gallons? 4 gallons? So, im sort of concerned maybe i have a defective pump, or perhaps i wired the new pigtail wrong, it took me 4 rewires to get the wires to even start the car because the pump i got didnt come with a diagrahm :) and it was a great deal lifting it up with all the gas in it so id recommend taking it out, in my case i couldve but since i couldnt actually clean my tank i said screw it.

Mark: This was a bitch of a job - but not because of the complexity - I did it in my driveway. Strap bolt spun right off, then when I went to reassemble, I thought I cross-threaded it. I used a steel brush on the threads, and voila! It spun right back on. For the other one, folks should make good and sure that the strap is centered with the frame, because it's under some tension and could make you cross-thread THAT one. Mark - FYI, I referenced your vid once more during my install to make sure the ring for the pump was on right-side-up. Again, thank you for doing this...for those doing it on their own, make sure you put a minimum of 2-3 gallons or more in, as the system needs to burp and makes for some puckering during the first start-up after it's all said and done. With air, I did it in 8 hours. Now, I think I could get it done in 4 or less. Take care Mark! Tim

Attaching the fuel tank actually to the car so it doesnt fall down was a little unclear. Is it just a couple metal straps holding it up?

How did it turn out? How did you install the straps when hanging the tank back up? I'm at the tail end of fixing my 95 Blazer (fill neck, lines, tank/pump/sending unit) and just need to lift the tank back up and strap it on. I can't see how to get the straps on if the tank is up, and I'd have to bend them quite a bit to get the tank up with them on. Is it possible to lift the tank up, move it a little to the center, and slide the straps up and hook them?

Well its running so thanks again for that. But i do have one problem. The gas gauge isn't working right. I believe i wired everything up right. Could i not have? would that be the cause? Would unpluging the battery reset it so it will read right? Any help would be great, thanks.

William Young Hate to say it Will, but NO, Unplugging the battery reset will NOT fix the problem. Go back underneath and recheck the wiring. Good luck, Ken kpkelly@hotmail.com.

If only I had a tank that came off as easily as this to put back on. I twisted the nut/bolt off the front top strap, and the nutplate holding the rear strap on broke and free spins...couldn't get the rear strap out without cutting it off. I'm having to modify the rear strap to bolt onto a piece of the remaining old strap and had to weld a bolt onto the top of the front strap. I've been struggling with this for going on 4 days now. FML

Nice videos, question do all the fuel lines need the retaining clips? And my fuel lines have colors on the ends by the parts you squeeze to release them from pump. Does blue go first and then the middle would be white and black and the last one has orange and I think that's a 5/16 end. Also the vent tube in front of the tank, I can't find pics or info on it, I forgot where or how that hooks to and is it needed. Thx june

Hi Mark. 2 questions. Just checking if you have heard of security system being engaged after changing a fuel pump. Also, if you remember, is it possible to mix the two of the three same size fuel lines up while installing on pump, the one big one is easy to tell where it goes . Could mixing the two up cause the car to not run or trigger security light.. Thanks.

So, I am about to tackle changing out my fuel pump on my 2000 Blazer. I have the erratic fuel gauge problem. Is this the only fix to that problem? If so, I have been trying to find the best quality fuel pump, but not a lot of them have reviews. The only ones with reviews were for Airtex and said that they are constantly having to replace them after a couple of years and the gauge works, but don't always display accurate fuel levels. Is there a better brand out there? ACDelco? Bosch? Delphi?

How did you get the straps on? Looks like they're off as you raise the tank, then we can't see under the tank as you put them on. I'm struggling with this right now. The front strap looks like you might be able to slide it up the side and find the hole to hook it. The hole for the rear strap is above a piece that juts out. I can't see how I could get the strap up there if the tank is up. Thanks.
@ironmikell
@ironmikell 5 лет назад
You must have figured it out by now but I always find the easiest way is to put the bolt in a socket with long extension put through the hole in the strap then simply push up from underneath and start into the body nut , just be careful not to push too hard until it is started .lest you bend the retainer then may have to get your hand up there to get it lined up with the hole again !
