After the hunt and before the meal, you must process the animal... here's a video that will show you exactly how I clean a wild pig.
In this video, I'm using Silver Stag Knives.
"I totally realize I hacked off a bunch of meat from the back of the Ham... I was trying to cut off some of the fat and got a little carried away...."

I've been hunting almost all my life, until 15 yrs ago I thought everyone lived this life. My dad and uncle showed me. Great instructions and nothing has changed, a sharp knife and a little experience or as a kid someone showing how. Awesome video this will serve the rookies well and well done sir.

Going on my first hunt ever next month. Florida hog hunting for a Spanish boar. I never had anyone to teach me to hunt, watching you take your own game and process it has really motivated me and I look forward to filling my freezer with meat and learning skills I can pass down to my future children. Keep doing what you do!

Growing up and living on Long Island I've never been exposed first hand to this type of lifestyle firsthand. Even though I never want to kill a animal myself I do respect and understand it. I can imagine the satisfaction of goin out there and harvesting from the world for yourself. As a society we loose sight of what it means to actually provide for ourselves without the luxury of modern age commodities. So cool seeing all that delicious meat piled up, and knowing the price of those cuts in the store. There seams to be very little wasted meat as well. I dig it.

You're right, it is very satisfying and feels good to literally "put meat on the table". I grew up in suburban New York State too (Westchester). 5 years ago, I moved down to Texas for grad school and have now leased property to hunt hogs and deer. I clean and butcher them myself and then bring most of the cuts to a local processor to be ground and turned into various sausage. You should try i!

Country people should appreciate more how much freedom they have. People flock to the cities nowadays, have no room, no fresh air, no good food, just for a little bit of money. And in the US you have space and not much regulation as I can see, Germany is overcrowded and overregulated. t. depressed citydweller At least I can shoot roebocks and hogs from time to time

I haven’t processed hogs since I was very young. I unfortunately have become very citified since and have forgotten most of what I had learned growing up. Being here in Texas I don’t have access to affordable hog hunts so I am purchasing coal hogs from a breeder to process. I used your video as a refresher course and I love how you skin and joint your hogs with nothing but a knife. No reciprocating saw needed! I love it! Thanks for the info keep it coming

I enjoyed your show about hog hunting and cutting up the hog. During the depression my father, who passed away in 1979, butchered and delivered or peddled meat in our local town of Waynesboro Pa. to pay bills. Before Dad passed away I had him teach me how to butcher the old fashion way of scalding them to remove the hair, making pudding, sausages, scrape, and pig feet jelly which is very tasty. Your way is much faster but some tasty thing are missing. I have hunted hog in Texas and in Florida but the hogs I killed in Florida were not as good to eat as the hogs from Texas. I hunted with Tiger Island Outfitters with whom I was disappointed greatly. It was not fair chase but pinned hogs and I never went back.

Personally I don’t like my dogs around when I am dressing game. I had a dog get very sick and almost die and my cousin did have one of his dogs die from eating scrap pieces of a wild boar while he was butchering it. I like to put wash tub under whatever I am dressing or butchering to catch blood, and bits and pieces. That said they are not my dogs or my video and I will give the presenter of this video credit he certainly can cut up pig quick fast and in a hurry. PS I like the trick about using the side window glass to hone his knife, I have a hunk of porcelain toilet tank lid that a friend of mine surface ground the flat on the bottom (unglazed side) that I use to hone my knives with.

Robert, watching you process that hog was somehow very relaxing. No wasted movements, no wasted cuts. Simple, direct deboning. No fancy cuts...no chops, no butterflies....just nice edible chunks of tasty God provided nourishment. I agree with you on high carbon steel knives. I prefer a knife that will take and hold a razor edge for a longer time over one that does not rust. A bit of oil after each use will solve the problem. Stainless steel has it's place, but not in a knife that is going to be counted on for holding a good sharp edge.

New to youtube. Just found your channel. Great. A little tip, though. Instead of "Pam" or any other cooking oil , use a block oil. It's a food grade oil for preserving butcher blocks, cutting boards and wood knife handles. Any cooking oil can turn rancid. God bless.

Hunting is essential to mans continued survival. I have never been a part of a hunt, I'm not sure if I could kill an animal but if I had to I think I could put my feelings aside and do it. Respect for the animal for giving up its life your nourishment is key to hunting as well. If you don't respect the animal then you have no have no right to hunt. Great video, I'm a new subscriber, much respect to you and yours.

I've been hunting and processing hogs for over thirty years down in loxahatchee and okeechobee florida you sir have just made it easier by sharing your video. Now I'll admit most times I'll field dress the hog get it home and my wife will quarter it out same with our deer. And it's not that I didn't know how but it can be a.pain in the butt My wife does it on a 4'×4' table in the garage. Now I built a hoist out of 4×4s and added two hooks pretty much can had the animal same as your setup. And now I just back my truck up hook um up behind their tendons at get to work. So thanks wife is happy and I'm a better man because of it..

I couldn't tell from the hide, had the hog been bleed out before it was gut.The winch on the truck is great. I guess the 1st thing I notice having done a lot of hogs, i just knew what you were going to do next, that is where the winch, the knives, and no wasted motion , every cut had a reason. You could have done this a few minuted after you shot it if you were not doing a video, with the winch and cooler.Nice job

I have a dear friend who is going above and beyond to help. Hunting is soooo much more then just killing an animal. Its a way of life and absolute respect for the animal and nature. Its about the good times spent with love ones and friends. Memories made while hunting/fishing are life time memories. This channel IS a representation of everything GOOD and PURE about hunting. J Ron I'm also physically disabled, and never thought to hunt because I hate seeing an animal's death. DMFD inspired me to want to try hunting. That said, I'd probably wear plastic gloves while doing the processing. That and a Kevlar glove under those. I'm an environmentalist, and I support hunting. Actually, many of the most dedicated environmentalists in history have been hunters. Hunting is a main reason the government protects wild places. So, thank you for protecting the wild places by giving them economic value and advocating for their preservation, DMFD.

A suggestion:- Cut some of the belly pork into decent slices. Place into a bowl and cover with cider Leave overnight Drain the cider off and use it to make sage & onion stuffing Place stuffing into an over-proof dish Lay the belly strips on top and place into a medium to high oven. Serve with tatties and gravy.

NICE DOGS!! -Especially that Australian Shepherd! They are all very well behaved. I once cured the hams from one of the wild hogs that I shot...I used honey with a heavy dose of salt with a little water. I soaked both hams from that hog in the refrigerator for about five days before cooking them. They turned pink and ended up making great sandwich meat.

I really enjoyed the speech at the end about why you hunt. I think its beautiful, almost in tune with nature. you hunt to provide food for the family, its good for you, and helps a conservation-like activitiy by minimizing the spread and growth of the species into human territory and damaging people's crops/lands/houses/property. win/win.

Random story, but I took my sons to visit Granny in Scotland this summer and she was talking about how before the myxomatosis epidemic in the 60's, it was totally normal for kids to hunt rabbits on the way to school and back, just to bring some extra bonus meat to the family. Kids would use snares, slingshots, stones, whatever. Kinda like feral hogs in the USA today.

Rob, I love watching your how to videos. Some videos that others produce leave me not wanting to eat what was processed. I love the way you keep hair and other contaminates out of the meat. Keep living the good life.

On the first kudu hunt I was introduced to the puffadder. The last bit of the rectum was nice and fatty and the liver was chopped up with an onion and grilled on the coals like a fat sausage. Absolutely delicious. It looks like a puffadder snake

Can you make bacon from a wild hog, or are the not big/fat enough? If so could you do a wild hog bacon video?

I do make bacon from wild hog BUT, you need to use the ham. There isn't enough fat in the belly to make regular bacon.

I've watched this video 4 or 5 times now and EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. my mouth starts watering for some pork. Got a friend who just got permission for us to hunt some land that has a bunch of hogs. Any advice on processing it during warm months? You're in FL right? So you deal with that all the time.
@brennancusick2390
@brennancusick2390 9 лет назад
Jarod Morris Get it off the bone ASAP. You don't want bone sour from warm meat. Also, keep it covered so flies dont lay eggs all on it. Hope this helps!

I'm not a hunter, nor a meet processing kind of guy, but, IMHO the temperature doesn't really matter when processing or butchering a Hog. Make sure you have a nice size cooler with a few bags of ice, once you skinned the Hog and start cutting it in pieces, throw that meat in the cooler. Simple as that. Oh, If the whole Hog are not to be eaten at the moment, freeze that meat. If some part of the Hog are to be eaten at the moment, rinse meat, and apply your best rub for meat that you can find. Leave it marinated for a few hours in the cooler. When ready to cook, take it out at the least half hour before cooking.

Ooh what a waste of pork bones! Here in New Zealand that part of the pork is highly preferred to the rest. It is usually broken up and cooked with potatoes, cabbage, carrots young marrows salt and pepper to taste. Great video this type of hunting is very popular. Thank you for a most informative video and keep up the good work.

I am reminded of back in 2007, my friend, John, who hunted in Oklahoma, brought me a hog carcass, skinned. And I had to break the back to fit the whole thing in my Char-Griller grill with side firebox (that I still have and use. I smoke a brisket that is just delicious.) And I smoked that hog for 12 hours with some pork rub and mesquite logs. And I took it to work. Absolutely delicious. I had not thought of rendering off the carcass. Just cooked it whole and you eat off of it, hawaiian style, I guess.
