DIY How to Replace GE Refrigerator Water Valves

Thanks for the video. I used it about a year ago to replace the water valves part, which I found online at a bargain price. Today I watched again to make sure I did it right when I replaced the corroded bargain pump with a GE replacement. Sometimes saving money is not the best idea.

My water valve was going out and the water would not stop flowing after moving your cup from the water dispenser. It now works perfect after changing the water valve using this video. Thank you!

What I like best about your video over one by a professional was, you removed the tubes and electrical connectors one at a time to place into the new valve. I bet there are thousands of DIY-ers who forget what goes where. One other thing I do before making a repair is taking a couple photos with my phone of where everything is, and what connected where, just in case. Great video!

I just wanted to say thanks. We had water leaking from the fridge that seeped through the floor into our basement. Turns out it was this valve. I was ready to throw down for a new fridge but saw your video, ordered the part for $25 and replaced it easily saving me a couple grand for a new fridge thanks to you!

Thanks so much for making the video. I'm much more a visual person then reader of instructions. So this was very helpful for replacing the water valve. Now the water for my ice maker actually stops instead of flooding my kitchen.

We just discovered that the water inlet valve in our GE fridge started spraying water and leaked into the basement. I've ordered the part, so your video will prove useful when it arrives and I replace the failed one. About a year ago, the waterline that connects to the inlet valve had a crack and was leaking into the basement. Unfortunately, the waterline is part of the filtration system, so I had to replace the whole system. After replacing it, the water dispenser flow rate increased to 4 or 5 times what it was. I think that is most likely the cause of your slow water flow.

Good video but test for leaks before you bolt it all back in with some paper towel underneath. And I also added a 1/4 turn water shut off valve inline on the water supply line in case the ice maker valve fails and water doesn't stop. (This saved me once already.)

Thank you for showing how to remove the water line. I need to confirm that water was flowing. It was but was frozen in door.

My replacement parts arrived today. Unlike your slow valve, my valve (one of them) failed overnight a while back and flooded my kitchen, living room, and dining room. I’ve had his happen once before, it was so long ago I forgot how to remove the water lines from the valves. Your video is a life saver just when I need it. I was wondering if you pre-staged your video. My backpanel revealed another universe of fuzz and dust. I’m beginning to think I missed a coil cleaning or two.

Well mine was not the water valve, replaced it and no change to flow. Your video did help with that. Mine was the filter head another video helped me with that. Total cost to me to replace both was $48.

I had a broke water hose and didn’t know how to fix it. Watched this video and realized you just push the inlet to release the hose and was able to remove the small broken piece and reinsert the main hose back in. 3 seconds and done. Thx

You need to replace your water filter head. Its the reason the water flow still sucks. There is a valve in it that clogs

Good video! I am wondering if in addition to the water flow issue, was your ice maker working or not? Our Adora makes ice, but doesn't dispense water, not even a drip.

Great video to bad I did not find this before I pulled the hose out. I did not know I had to press back on the white ring to release. I pulled it out and damage the internal clamp. Now I guess I will have to purchase a new valve.

My refrigerator stopped dispensing water. After several days on RU-vid University, I realized the following: My freezer was still making ice. I changed my water filter to a new filter and purged out any air in the line. My refrigerator side crisper area water reservoir tank was not frozen. I changed my water inlet valve to a new water inlet valve and verified both for continuity prior to installation. Both the old and the new showed nearly identical continuity confirming a working water inlet valve. And still, no water. Unless both the old water inlet valve and the new water inlet valve both have defective mechanical issues. What are the odds? I am suspicious to that being the issue. I removed the main water line and checked water flow. Very solid and good pressure. I then connected the main water line to the new water inlet valve and turned on the water supply. The water ran through the water inlet valve up into the water filter and back down the return line. That is where the water flow ends for dispensing water to drink, but not to the freezer to make ice cubes. So, something is not "turning on" or allowing the water to be dispensed at the push pad. Yet, water is going up to the freezer to make ice. I am baffled.

Is it just me? Or is there not much difference between before and after flow in this video? It's great instruction on how to replace the valve, but are you sure that was your problem? How is the flow now, after all this time?

I've got the same problem although I've got Zero water coming out and a trickle in the freezer, which is causing the pipe to freeze shut. So no ice. I wonder if you can clean out the valve insted of replacing. Although i've alredy ordered a new one. just saying

are there 2 water lines into the fridge because the fridge has both an ice maker AND a water dispenser? My fridge has just an ice maker but the water valve that is leaking has 2 holes for hoses. But I am pretty sure there was only 1 hose coming from the valve to the fridge. I'm assuming I only have to use 1 of those openings to supply my ice maker but I have not found a definite answer.

Hi from Spain. Excellent video. My GEC fridge freezer is exactly the same as yours, can you tell me the part number because I have difficulty in Spain getting the right part. I would appreciate your help because I had a broken white pipe and did not realise how to remove the damaged pipe from the valve and I have damaged the clip inside which prevents leaks, I wish I had seen your video earlier!!!.Kind regards,John.

Do you have a link or know where to get a new hose that will go from water dispenser to valve? Everything works fine but the water hose has a hole in it so it leaks.

Hi! Thanks for this video. What diagnosis lead you to replacing the valve? I do not get water when I unhook the water line at the bottom (blue thing that connects line from back to the dispenser line), tried new filter, and still no luck. I am determining if it is the assembly at the top vs if it is the valve at the back of refrigerator. Plz share if you have any thoughts. Thanks!

FYI the water lines are 2 different sizes, you can’t put it back together wrong.

Hi Dave and WIni, would you please teach us or make a movie explaining wich tubes are connected where. Because I bought a used GE Profile refrigerator and all tubes are disconnected, some of those completely broken... So if you can teach us how the tubes are connected, I mean the path of all water tubes, it would be so helpful.

How about just replacing the filter first? That is culprit number one with flow problems. Then, iced line around the dispenser.

I don't have an "in Door" water dispenser so one side of the valve is un used. If Ice maker side is not functioning, can I just switch tubeing and wire connector to other side? Thanks

Quick question I hooked my new water valve up yesterday afternoon. I checked the freezer this morning but still have no ice I read online it could take up to 24 hours is this true? Water was never flowing before and it's now flowing very strong. It definitely seemed to resolve that problem.

How do u know the problem is the water inlet valve when u didn’t do some testing of the old one?

Did you have to turn the water off so when you disconnected the water line, water didn't come gushing out?

Sears sent me a one solenoid valve and my model has two so they took it back but did not refund my original shipping just gave free return shipping. I wondered why I was still getting water to the ice side and not the water. $35 for the one solenoid and $82 for the two solenoid part. Wonder if the old can be repaired?

Is it possible that the water dispenser can dispense water and not send water to the ice maker?

I appreciate you posting this video. It made it so easy to replace the leaking valve that I had. Also, I was wondering if you had changed the water filter before you decided to change the valve. The reason I ask is that I had a issue in the past where the water started to run slower out of dispenser and after I changed the filter the water started to come out a lot faster. Just wondering. if you had tried the filter first.

I am going to replace mine but not sure it is the problem .Mine was freezing up the outlet for the ice cube make which made it stop working and mine is the ge adora model and same part .Waiting for par to come from ebay 16 dollars and part stores around here sell the same part for 57 dollars ..I can see making money but that is a little to much
