Free hand routing at the router table has always been a huge mess. I decided it was time to do something about it. I had a couple mag switches left over from my table saw hold down jig and a random magport, so I decided to make a jig to cut down on all the mess at the router table. It's a really simple jig but has already proved itself worth the effort to make in how much it cuts down on the mess the router can generate. Good idea, simple but it works. Now that you have a bunch of new toys you should do a guitar themed project, like a piece of furniture with guitar shapes. Keep it up!

Thanks for watching! A guitar body stool might be on my short list of upcoming builds.

But it only works on a table that is made of a magnetic material, my table is melamine and the plate is aluminium so this won't work me. But it is a great idea for a table that magnets will hold on.

Another idea here would be to slightly modify a PVC floor sweep. It would be much wider so you could mag switch it across the whole width of the lift. Bigger & closer to the cutting action you will collect way more dust.

That’s another great option!

Bit bearings are described with the bit installed in a standard router, not a table. A bottom bearing bit has the bit on the very end of the bit. A top bearing bit has the bearing between the shaft and the flutes of the bit. Flush trim bits have a bottom bearing. A pattern bit has a TOP bearing.

So THAT’s what I couldn’t remember! I thought it was determined by being in a table. Thanks for the correction Al!

Is there any reason you could not make it wider?. Then it would not matter where the dust was thrown. Thanks for video.

There’s no reason it couldn’t be wider, if I make it again it’s for sure would be. Thanks for watching!

Lol @ 0:50 ... that's a bottom bearing bit, as it is at the bottom end of a router. We weirdos like to turn our routers upside because we're edgy.

Orrrrr... you can: A- Buy an $8 dust collector attachment that sits on your table. B- Buy, or design, a sub-table dust collection system to pull your dust through the plate hole. (Or, if you got a bunch of holes in your router plate like I do, you can build a box that encases your router and put a hose attachment on the box, so it pulls all the dust downwards, and into the box, and out to your collector/vac. 😀 )

How ironic you needed to use the router table without dust collection to make your new set up for dust collection.

I'm for sure going to put that down as a contender.
