How hard can it be? I had to find out for myself. Part by part and piece by piece and it all slowly came apart. Enjoy the video and feel free to ask me any questions. Instagram: supa_tony
Tony - done like a pro! Both the job and the vid! Tavarish eat your heart out (and he would have made that vid drag out for 3 x 20 minutes)! In particular, your commentary was succinct and clear.
Wow what a great video. I've been considering buying a Gallardo and have been doing as much research as possible, including the cost of a clutch change. It looks very straightforward, and the only challenging part is remembering which bolts went where! Although the car I'm considering is an e-gear which means it'll need the lambo computer system to reset it :(
That can be arranged, as its a 10 minute job. So you can do the clutch and trailer it to a mechanic who has one. General oil changes are done in under 30 mins from start to finish and its fairly affordable.
Great video and very informative, Just a quickie though regarding the E-gear fluid, once you had reassembled everything how did you go about the fluid? did you just top the bottle up then have Lara bleed it?
Hey mate, thanks so much for sharing this. Looking into an 2006 Gallardo (6 speed MANUAL). It due for a new clutch very soon. I want to do the job myself as it seems to be a straight forward job. From your video, you mentioned that I need to reset the ecu? Is there a specific program I need to upload to reset? Where do I find this etc. I am no mechanic, but getting a mate in a local workshop to help me out. Any help would be amazing! Located in a Sydney. Awesome page 👌🏾
Nice little video mate. Good length , good amount of detail, camera stability could use some work though. I applaud you for having a crack at doing this yourself, must be daunting pulling apart a supercar but in reality its just nuts and bolts like any other.. How much did it cost you to do and how much would it have been at a dealer? I hope to join you and the others in the brisbane supercar scene soon. Keep up the vids mate.
Yeah, i did the hyperlapse shots on a tripod, but the speaking shots were on the selfie stick, so that did move around a bit. Glad you enjoyed it mate and thanks for the comment.
Thanks mate. Although Im no mechanic and just took my time and all the resources are on google and youtube. Appreciate you taking the time to reply too.
did you use a workshop manual for this procedure or was it just a bit of hit and miss with the tools? Im about to do mine soon and would love to have a chat as to what problems you ran into and what dos and dont do's Mines a manual so no need for calibration thank god
Hi mate. All the tools are very straight forward and only basic tools are required. I do have a copy of what "tensions" to do the bolts at. A manual car is a lot easier. The video has assisted a lot of DIY owners to change their own clutches. I go under the same name on instagram supa_tony, so hit me up with your progress when you start.
Well that was an awesome job. Mine is an 04 manual so I'm wondering why a computer is needed to reset the clutch? Also, how many KMS on your car. I'm wondering why your slave and throw out bearing was leaking so badly. These seem to be a big ticket item to purchase.
Hi mate. The computer is used to reset the clutch position as well, so you know how much you have left etc. Mine has done 50k and yes, that throwout bearing looked a little yuck. The new ones are much cheaper and last a lot longer than the old styled ones. Hit me up if you're in Australia and need parts at the right price.
I understand that u need the software to re program the clutch senser. Would the engage and realse still work are self learn the new one? I did clutch before going by best judgment tools hoist that i have considering this attempt. Closes Lamborghini dealer from me is 20h drive.
The computer is used for 2 main things. The more important is to flush the EGear fluid to bleed it. As you will not be able to do this without some sort of computer (Note, it does not have to be a lambo computer) as the one I used was not. This is done very quickly. Maybe 2 minutes and its done. The second thing is to reset the clutch values. This only takes a second to do on the computer. I have not been able to find a way around using the computer for flushing the egear yet.
When my car gets there it gets there. When i both my car made a deal conditional clutch read 65 plus % the lambo dealer did not wright the snap read on my invoice but told me verbally the clutch is done. It bin 3000kms car still has no sign of slipping are shifting problems. On my hoist i pop the rubber plugs under the housing u can see the plates disc ect. Was told not the way to check it . On my caliper in got 5.59mm I read rivets are around the 5.2mm . I'm planing a winter trip with the car towing it to my location and problebly drive it other 1000km in the month hopfully she dont let go right after i unload it . Thanks for the upload isint much publicity on theses.
aftermarket. I think it was a Texa brand. I hired a European mechanic to go it, and he was there for only minutes to reset & bleed the egear that he didn't even charge me.
how do you know where to align the clutch with the flywheel? I noticed the "5" on the clutch didn't match the "5" on the flywheel. And what are the torque specs on tensioning the flywheel like you mentioned? I have to do this in a few weeks and want to make sure I've got all the info I need... Then... I've got one more question... Do those two green seal rings have the following part numbers: WHT002218 and N90111302? sorry if this is a hassle to answer
When the clutch and flywheel arrive, they come with markings on them. Usually pen marks from where they were balanced at the factory. So you just need to align these when fitting. You will see i wrote on the bolts, that's the order that you tighten them. Torque to 70nm for the flywheel bolts. Let me go see what green seals you're talking about, and get back to you. If you have instagram, find me supa_tony and we can chat direct on there for more info.
Not sure at this time on the seal part numbers. When ordering the clutch kit, these will come with it and they will be specific to your vehicle..A big tip, soak your exhaust bolrs with a lubricant like wd40 at least the day prior. Exhaust bolts are one of the biggest pains in doing this.
supatony thanks for answering. I’m getting one of those Kevlar clutches from hi tech exotic. I think I’ll call the nearest dealer and have them send me the full list of parts and I’ll double check that my lists are correct and add anything if it’s missing. Thanks again though and your video is a great resource along with Tavarish’s multiple videos with his clutch job. It’s proving difficult to get all the details from these multiple resources into one picture. I think maybe I’ll make a video of my clutch replacement project and I’ll include the part list in the bio
the added cost of the kevlar was just too high to be honest. I really weighed it up and went OEM. You would go kevlar if you never intended on selling your car.
Computer reset was so fast I didnt have time to grab the camera. It was completed in under 2 minutes. As for the time it takes, well now this can be done in one day. So it's not labor extensive when you know what you are doing. Hope thus info helps.
that's where you get someone with a computer diagnostic system that reads lambos to visit you. The guy who did mine was in and out in 5 minutes. That included resetting and bleeding the egear.
supatony One more question. Was your throw out bearing leaking such that there was a slow drip out of the inspection hole on the transaxle housing? Any insight is much appreciated. Again thanks for the diy video.
hit me up on Instagram supa_tony and feel free to direct message me any questions you have. Just had another guy doing his clutch this week and its great we can share this info berween us.
I aligned it with a piece of plastic (similar to a dowel) Just made sure it fitted both snug. You align the clutch markings with the flywheel. As these are balanced. Depending on what clutch you buy, it will have markings in different places, But should be fairly easy to work out. Just get the flywheel bolts tensioned correctly. Oh, and another one you really need to focus on is the drive shaft bolts, make sure they are tensioned correctly too when putting it all back together. Dont forget to find my instagram supa_tony and hit me up directly for any info you need. You can send me pics etc if you get stuck and I can hopefully assist you.
11:42 Can you please tell me how I can get this computer in order to recalibrate my clutch and bleed it at the same time? My clutch has developed a shudder and i need help and of course any help you give me by pointing me in the right direction would greatly be appreciated. Regards Nick
Hi mate, you need to either get a mobile "Euro" mechanic or take it to a shop who has the computer. It only takes a few minutes to do. You could also do a soft reset. You do that by turning your ignition to the on position, pulling in both paddles until your dash makes a sound. Then from there you can turn off the car and restart it and it will have adjusted. Google soft clutch reset gallardo.
@@vinnythehandyman tow it in. I used a mobile guy who came over with just the computer and reset the clutch. If its egear, they will also do a "Bleeding sequence" and bleed the air from the egear hoses (Takes about 1 minute).
@@supatony You are very generous with your time to the forum. I want to start up loading content on maintenance with my 2007 Gallardo on my RU-vid channel. I live in the United States. Where can I purchase bearing and clutch. totally lost! im at 50% so its around the corner
@@vinnythehandyman hi mate, you have two options. Genuine OEM from Lamborghini (I would strongly advise shopping around between the dealers for the best price) You will need the Clutch kit with throwout bearing. Alternatively, you use a clutch from Hi Tech Exotics clutch. More money, but it will last longer. I went the OEM original route and it has been great.
First time for anything is SLOW. I took my time and it took about 10 hours to have the clutch out, and it went together faster though. So took me 3 days in total. Although I know now I could do it in half that time. The quotes I had for doing it were about 10k here in Australia. Now, I have found a special Ex Lambo mechanic who can do this in ONE day, so in the future I am going to use him. And he will charge about 3k. But you really need to do your own work on these cars.
@@supatony cheers for the detailed response. I honestly thought you'd done it in two days, and the 10k quote left me jaw dropped. So I was out on both counts.
@Juche Tony I have had countless people contact me and who have done this from watching the video. All have been successful too. So, it can be done by someone with limited knowledge of mechanical skills. Hope this helps mate.
