awesome light setup. Thanks for sharing. i did the setup with a led kit i got on ebay for $11 without the dimmer, alluminum strips cost like $15. Now my work station has sufficent light and it looks awesome Everyone that sees it complements it and ask where they can purchase it. Thanks

Nice project I think it's missing just one detail. LED strips can have quite a bit of resistance in the traces so the voltage drops somewhat as you move further away from the supply wires, resulting in an uneven amount of light and heat if you power a full 5m strip from just one side. Since you're only using 2.5m it's probably less noticeable, but you can easily compensate by moving one supply wire (doesn't matter which one) to the other strip. That way +12V is connected to the one end of the combined strip and ground at the other. Since losses in both rails are equal but now increase in opposite directions, all segments will see the same voltage. Alternatively, you could power both strips directly from the supply wires and not daisy chain them thus reducing the length on the strip and losses. You could even combine both methods and use the aluminum strip as a common ground.

I wouldn't use the aluminum strip as the common ground in an electronics lab!

Another option would be to power them at the center of the strip that way the resistance is only half by the time it gets to the ends of the led strip.

@@LarryCoates1948 agreed, it's not like you really rely on the light at the end of the strips. Going to use your idea, thanks

Brilliant! One could build another and have one crossing the other to get light coming from 4 directions for really flat lighting on 3D objects. Making each arc capable of dimming individually could provide even more flexibility for use in photography.

going to make something similar for my plants for the winter. (indoors) :). Thank you for the video!

Thanks. I've been wanted to make some video lights after I found my LED lights in the basement were flickering in video. I knew I would have to look for some kind of a flicker free PSU but wasn't even sure where to start. I wasn't aware of the CRI rating so I will make sure I get strips that have a high rating.

I think this is a horrible idea for a workbench but I can see the greatest "slip'n'slide" of all time using something like this!

Went to order this and they've replaced everything with shit that is way too expensive. Gotta get like 3 different parts and by the time you're done you're at $200 or more.
