Great video! It's almost exactly how I built a cargo bike 5 years ago. I stretched the frame 8", and used no vertical brace. Mine was a mtb (also from the dump). I once carried 200+# on it. I also added foot pegs for a passenger. Your process really only adds a couple pounds, and makes a great riding bike. Nicely done!

First, I'm a bike guy, have been for the past 40 years. Second, Paul Elkins I really enjoy your videos including this one. Personally I would have stretched this bike a little more, at least another 5-6 inches. Possibly you were worried about the frame strength but I think you could have worked it out. Good first attempt though. Keep those gears churning Paul, not those bike gears, the ones in your head, your projects are fun, entertaining and often innovative.

Awesome video! After watching the video a few times I went and made my own long tail bike based largely on this design and a trek 820.

I love the classic look of the long tail ❤and a lil gas on the welder would be nice too 😂

Cool bike!

Just finished the bicycle camper, however, I used plastic lattice fencing for the body and bottom. I covered the lattice with a tarp and secured it with zip-ties.

Nice job, I'll take a steel frame over alloy any day. I'll be working on an old road bike eventually when I get time, going with a copper paint.

really nice job! Would you have any recommendations on a welder capable of small bike frame welds like this for someone who has never welded?

Best cargo bike remodel I guess use a frame from a tandem bike a tandem mountain bike is designed for heavy duty use mine will hold an extra 300 lb perhaps that would take it up to a 500 pound cargo and me capacity maybe even then some

The only problem I can see with the support you added is that it will drastically reduce the amount the frame can flex (what it's designed to do) I understand it will be loaded though but might end up being more of a problem.

He can get some pretty good pannier bags from the newspaper office if you go down and get their carrier bags and they go right over top of something like that I always wanted a long-tail bike when I was delivering but never got around to getting it and I still have a few bags left and I'm going to use her mind if I ever get a long-tail bike I'm looking at the Mongoose long tail but I still don't think I can afford the $600 price tag just seeing what they asked for these bikes it's only a couple extra pieces of metal in their good price doubles on them

what is the point in adding only 10 centimeter ?? Why not enough space to put a big box at the rear ?

You can get a kit that allows you to extend the frame without all the cutting things up. But then it wouldn't be as much fun to create and weld your own.

Just wondering why you chose to build a cargo bike and not a trailer? Great idea.

Nice, but the chain seems really wobbly at @3:58 . You should check if you can stiffen the shifter chain tensioner wheel.
