Yes, you'd typically want to do that! For this project, however, because the drawer is so wide, I was worried about it sagging, so it's actually resting on the supports that I built.
I am currently in this project..... There is a LOT of missing measurements and directions that need to be included. Like where to put the supports and shim space for the drawer. It would also be nice to have some direction on how to fix an out of square frame so my drawer fits correctly.....
If you’re going to build your own desk therefore you’re own drawers: once you’re desk or whatever it is your installing drawers and slides into is built, meaning the cabinet is built and if you chose framing or not that it’s all assembled together... to measure for the drawer dimensions place both drawer slides to one side of the empty cavity, add both pieces of plywood to that same side and measure what’s left in the space to the other side of your frame. That’s your drawer dimensions plus you’ll obviously measure the depth or how far back your cavity goes but the trickiest is getting the width of your drawer. Also, when your drawer slides are installed and you place your drawer inside to attach to the drawer slides, first place a thin spacer to lift your drawer 1/8” above the frame it’s resting on as you’ll find out if not held slightly above, it drags and rubs on the frame otherwise.
