But what about Bee's?.... Those oil's (especially peppermint) cause bee's to avoid pollinating vegetables like Tomato's, I heard they don't like the smell.... I've watched several Beekeeper videos that all say that they use peppermint oil to keep bees "away" from them when they take care of the hive, because bee's "Don't" like the scent of peppermint "oil" (they just like peppermint "flowers" but not the oil... beekeepers use it as a repellent instead of a smoker sometimes) .... There are some mint oils Bee's do like according to beekeepers, but peppermint doesn't seem to be one of them .... I just started a container garden 2 weeks ago and just noticed some holes in the leaves of my peppers and basil. This is my first time using neem oil and I’m hopeful I can control the pests long enough for my plants to fruit. Several years ago I had an in ground garden but the soil where I live is very sandy and I had a lot of trouble keeping the soil moist. If I’m successful with my container garden I’m going to try raised beds in my in ground garden plot. I’m hopeful that with the knowledge I’ve gained from binge watching your RU-vid channel I will be able to have a more productive garden than I’ve had in the past.

My garden WAS thriving, then today I noticed a HUGE spider mite infestation on nearly all of my plants, along with cabbage hoppers and aphids (talk about a “pest salad”)! I am thinking that the spider mites could have come from the recent dry winds (in California) and the surrounding vegetation of pines being blown into the garden. Keeping hope alive that the garden will still thrive after I treat everything! Thank you so much Kim! 🙌🏼🌱❤️

Hey CaliKim, I am having my stinkbug issue with my tomatoes (also found evidence of hornworms - but I think the birds got them). It's been really hot and humid here in TX. I have the neem oil, but I will have to get some peppermint oil too. Hopefully that will deter the buggers...thank you!

This video came right on time! Thank you! A giant caterpillar ate through the leaves of my little aloe vera plant. Can I use this mixture on it? Also, does it take care of aphids. They're messing up my flowers. Your dog and your garden are beautiful 😊

I use a mix of BT, neem oil and Dr. Bonner's soap. I spray my veggies and apple tree once a week. I'll have to add the peppermint oil.

OH my goodness Kim I think this is what's happening to my green beans I was telling you about! These are the same dark spots on the leaves but they finally crumbled or scorched too. The shade cloth you suggested is helping alot. And I do think I see some of the same insect damage. You are a life saver! I did post a request on your FB page coast2coast asking to find your old video about this spray yesterday. Thanks so much for the recipe. I have oils ready to mix. So anxious to see how it works. you should use a different sprayer for compost tea/worm tea. 1 sprayer for neem oil and soap and another sprayer for compost tea/worm tea.

Yes, it has to be 100% cold pressed neem oil. BUT ... I would recommend using Dr. Bronner's Sal Suds Biodegradable Cleaner instead of Dawn. Better for the plants and the environment.

That is just a push on Dr Bronners, even over on Garys site he just uses dawn or ivory. No need to spend the big bucks for Bronners. I use the Ivory.

How about just using Woolite?? It’s safe for delicate clothes, safe for plants and you get a whole LOT more for your money than any dish soap. 💜

Well I have a big jug of Dr Bonners Peppermint oil castille soap. I use it in the bathroom at Christmas time. That takes care of both the soap and the peppermint oil need. It may cost a bit more than Dawn but I think I can afford a few teaspoons for the garden. It simplifies the job so I don't have to buy anything but neem oil. Also whoever suggested using Woolite, I wouldn't like to use that on a food crop. It is not as gentle as you think. Of course you will wash your veggies, but I would rather not put Woolite on my food, even in residual amounts.

With all this night rain we are experiencing lots of my pole bean leaves are dying off. I just harvested a pound of beans despite this. Something has been chopping off the tops of my tomato seedlings that I started in the Parks seed starting sponges that i had on my screened porch. The leaves weren't eaten though. I have moved them inside the house.

I have used neem oil of which I have some but more often I use horticultural oil which is more organic than neem along with a little dish soap. The idea with the oil is to smother the insects and they wont like the tasted of the soap.

Hi Calikim I been following you for a few years now I did your strawberries in the crates. I believed it's been about 2 years. You are a great teacher for gardening. I wanted to know do you know anything about using vinegar with water in a spray bottle for those bugs. I planted broccoli for the first time this summer I had holes in my leaves then a few days later all the leaves were gone. I just had the steams left behind. I'm also using cinnamon to keep away ants & other bugs mice etc. I live in Brooklyn. I like your videos. Btw my garden is totally under a bug war path. Japanese beetles, Asiatic beetles, and I found 1 slug in my Oriental Lily garden and one on the sidewalk. So other than those I'm sure I've got things other than those. Something stripped my miniature rose leaves literally gone just the leaf stem. Looks like a skeleton. So I'll be subscrbing, and I found your page from the rustic garden.

I started a balcony garden after watching your small space garden series. I now have pest issues. Since I'm on a balcony I dont have access to a hose to spray down my plants. Will the neem oil work if I can not enact the step using the hose knocking the bugs off the leaves? I really need some answers I dont want these bugs decimating my first veggie garden. 🥺

Hi Kim, I am new to gardening and I noticed on my tomato leaves there are some white squiggly lines on some of them. I picked them off and a few days later there are more on some other leaves. I also noticed that the white lines look torn open like a bug has come out of it . What could this be ?

Leaves are no problem -there however are lots of little tiny fleas/mites on all container dirt. Afraid to try herbs indoors 😕any advice on these little tiny fleas or flies on the dirt only.

I don’t have any problems with bugs cause I think my room is really Messy... an I’m starting to get the right amount of mix to my soil an I think it’s acidic. . I will do this spray just to prevent any infestations from happening . Even if it does, I have a few things that can gas the bugs really quick .

Hi Heather, ah so frustrating! I don't have a huge problem with slugs, but the few I do have, I go out at night and pick them off. This might be tough if you have a lot of slugs, but it's kinda fun to be in the garden at night and see the bug nightlife anyways! Good luck!
