DIY Pathway with wood and drainage rock | UPDATE!!!

#DIY #pathway UPDATE!!! I wasn't planning on doing a follow up video to the wood pathway with drainage rock video until next year however the way I designed the #walkway was a big FAIL. The wood pathway really was un-usable and had to be re-addressed.
Back to the drawing board. I originally used a 2x4 as a spacer which proved to be too much of a space. By filling in this space with a full 2x4 smoothed out the diy wood pathway so it is not a hazard now.
With the price of lumber these days, it takes a small fortune to do even the smallest project, I think that's why I originally designed it that way ( to save a few bucks) I guess you get what you pay for, even when its you doing the work
I hope you enjoy this wood pathway video update.

I’m so happy to see someone go thru the crap I go they every time I start a project! Broken tools, or lost tools, dead batteries, slips and falls, pieces that don’t fit right…. I’m usually done before I get a good start.

They both look great! I think I liked the look of the first one a little better, but after I saw the reason you revamped it, I would have done the same thing. Sometimes I see diy videos on RU-vid where the finished project looks amazing, but practicality never gets discussed. Thanks for the follow up video! Comfort before aesthetics any day ! Awesome job 👍🏻

Staggered look great, it does give it more of that railroad look and adds some dimension! The color differentiation adds to it also, great job.

Looks great! My only concern is no spacing between the boards for drainage or expansion. Let us know how it lasts. Love the two-tone look and the varied width. Overall, looks incredible 👍👍

Looks good 👍 I was thinking of doing the same but here in Quebec it gets very cold and wet. I just wonder if it’s going to last and be too slippery.
@DIYBuilt
@DIYBuilt 2 года назад
I think if you were to build it in your climate I would leave a small space between the boards for better drainage, also the crushed stone helps with drainage as well
@thenexthobby

Looking better and yes, more functional. I suspect most of us would skip the wood and go to composite and not deal with nature’s wood rot. My biggest objection to composite (after price … ) is that if you pony up for the plasticized layer (so that it doesn’t fade) it can be hotter on bare feet than wood.
@DIYBuilt
@DIYBuilt Год назад
Yes, I suspect you are right. So far so good on this project though.

Looks great but when the slats are so tight what happens when the timber gets wet and it begins to swell ??

Thanks, good question, we did put a waterproof sealer on during and after the construction of this pathway, it’s been about a year now since it was completed and it’s holding up good so far.

Couldn’t you just added more rock ? I wonder how long the wood would last before rotting looks great your video made me 😃
@DIYBuilt
@DIYBuilt 2 года назад
Yes, we had more rock in there originally that was pretty much flush with the boards but it just didn’t give us the results we we’re looking for. We removed a lot of the rock and then added the longer 2x4’s, we are happy with the way it finally turned out and as far as how long before the wood starts to decay, hopefully 10 years but only time will tell. There is really good drainage now so it could be okay for quite a while. Thanks for watching my friend, cheers!
