Lip Balm Ingredients:
2 g (about 1/2 tsp) beeswax
2 g (about 1/2 tsp)coconut oil
2 g (about 1/2 tsp) raw cocoa butter
4 g (about 1 tsp) olive oil or other liquid carrier oil)
1/8 - 1/4 tsp unsweetened cocoa powder
1 drop vitamin E oil (optional)
2 drops peppermint essential oil
Lip Scrub Ingredients:
4 tsp raw sugar
2 tsp coconut oil
1/8 - 1/4 tsp unsweetened cocoa powder
2 drops peppermint essential oil
Tools:
double broiler or small heat proof bowl and small saucepan
spatula or spoon
empty contact cases or other small lip balm containers
kitchen scale (optional, but useful)
To make the Lip Balm:
1. Place beeswax, coconut oil, cocoa butter, and olive oil in a double boiler or a heatproof bowl on top of a saucepan of simmering water. Stir gently until all are completely melted.
2. Add cocoa powder and stir to dissolve.
3. Remove from heat, wiping any water from the bottom of the bowl. Stir in vitamin E oil (if using) and essential oil.
4. Carefully (but quickly) pour the liquid oil mixture into the right side of the contact cases or a lip balm container and allow to sit until product has completely cooled.
To make the Lip Scrub:
1. Wipe out your bowl and melt coconut oil in the same double boiler set up.
2. When the oil is melted, stir in cocoa powder to dissolve.
3. Remove from heat, wiping any water from the bottom of the bowl. Stir in sugar and essential oil.
4. Carefully pour the scrub into the other side of your containers (or in a new lip balm container.) Allow to cool completely until set!
5. When the balm and scrub are completely cool, cap them and you’re good to go! (For faster results move the lip balm to the fridge after it’s cooled slightly.)
To Use the Lip Scrub/Lip Balm Duo:
1. Apply a small amount of the lip scrub to lips and rub to gently exfoliate. Rinse with warm water or a warm, wet cloth.
2. Immediately follow with lip balm to moisturize and protect.
Tips and Notes:
- You can adjust the cocoa powder for a more (or less) chocolatey flavor!
- My lip scrub made a bit more than would fit in my containers. Consider reducing slightly if you don't want extra!
- In the video, I used mint infused coconut oil. If you want, check out the tutorial: • How to Make Herb-Infus...
