We're developing a rural property west of you in Washington. Same water problems. We found that a 2000 concrete tank was cheaper than plastic. And, since it can be buried the freezing problem is solved. Plus I don't want another dedicated building to maintain and clutter up the view. Place is looking good.

Get your water tested. It might need some specific treatment to clear it up. Testing water is cheap, worth doing for your own confidence. Looking good, building an insulated enclosure around your tanks is just what is needed‼️👍 Vinny 🇺🇸

Red poppy. Thank for the FYI. ABOUT THE TWIST IN THE STRAP. THANK YOU ON THAT ONE!!!!!! LOVE WHAT YOUR DOING. GREAT JOB. KEEP IT UP,,,,,,,,, GLAD TO SEE YOU DIDN'T GET RID OF THE BACKHOE YET.!!!!!!!!!! In your last video You spoke about chemicals. About spraying. Trees and ground. Back in the day late 70s early. 80s. I would spray. My dads fruit trees He made me dress up like I was homeless also would have on a face mask and gloves spraying the trees and then wash out the sprayer. Down stair off with the clothes right up stairs in the shower.. Am glad my dad took good care of me. But then spend. 32 years on the Railroad. First 10 in freight. Service. We moved it all. Places we went in too. Sliding for all kinds of customers walking around where they unloaded cars. Who know. What I was around and no one told us shit. Well take care. safe first.JUNKMANDO

Looking forward to the first video of clear, fresh water...and then the lab results of the water test. A note on drawing your sample: before I put our homestead well into service I took a sample to check on hardness/minerals, pesticides/chemicals, radionuclides, and other aspects as well as for E.coli. I had to record the temp of the sample and then keep it on ICE until I dropped it off at the lab. All I'm saying is find a trustworthy local lab and ask for any special handling requirements of the sample so the results will be a s accurate as possible. Being that you are a plumber, you may already be familiar with everything I said above? I do not have your experience in the industry OR rural water systems, so that aspect was new to me as far as getting my well tested. Great job!

Are you panning on a sand filter? Might help later on if the water going to the storage tank does not clear up over time. Also, the storage tank will allow the water to settle out alot of the sediment. So happy that your water system is finally a reality and should be relatively cheap source of almost limitless water. Thanks for sharing with us.

THE water will clear up faster if you let it set Putting a pump in will turn up the water keeping setiment turned up. Leve it along and let the setament fall to the bottom Another good thing to do is put a few trout in it. They will eat any bugs and help keep the water kleen but every few years you will have to go fishing and have a fish fry because you don't want them to get to big ;)

Thank you for the videos. I've binge watched your progress on the house. My wife and I built our own house in 2006-07, but it isn't off grid and we didn't have the challenges that you have faced. I'm real interested in your progress on getting water. There is another site that built a ram pump that pumps water without electricity up hill and long distances. You might be able to use that method to get your water up the hill to your storage tank.
@RedPoppyRanch
@RedPoppyRanch 6 лет назад
I'd love to build a ram pump but it's too high up the hill...
@richardperry9095

I wondered if it might be. One man who built one said he pumped water quite a long way up by putting in a series of rams. I've never done it, so I don't really know. Looks like you have gotten most things figured out. I wondered if your original plans changed for the other house?

Was wondering, are you going to build tank house into the side of hill to take advantage of geothermal mass, like an old root cellar? Would keep water cool in summer, and cut down on chance of it freezing in winter. Maybe even build out of cinder blocks, or concrete, and insulate exposed portions heavily. Guess you could buy a 12 volt element, hook to solar, for piece of mind, pretty cheap on ebay, for freeze protection, they have floating ones for stock tanks, and you could put a piece of pvc pipe in tank vertically mount floating element to pvc pipe with a larger piece of pvc pipe collar to slide up and down pipe with water level, and have a stop mounted on pipe to keep element from ever touching bottom of tank, and melting a hole in tank. Just some thoughts. Might not even need element if built into hillside, might stay above freezing in tank house.

Yes on the well house.

Was the second tank for Busted Wagon? Did the install directions break down to a 1-3 inch bed of sand so nothing sharp will be able to poke a hole in the base? Would it be worth putting a water coil in a wood stove in the tank building to dump some of the heat to the water and not just the air when you have a fire going?
@jimh712

Andrew H Maybe if it's dug back into the hillside..and maybe even some buried corrugated pipe..and the housr .made out ofcement block with insulation.. It can tap into the earths tempeture +- 50°

Cheap cheap tanks!! Thin walls,no reinforcements...I have doubts about the longitivity they can hold in a harsh environment. Buy strong in the first place, then enjoy your cistern for a very long time. I am still amazed at the complications you are self imposing in regards to your clean water quest. Your determination is off norm to say the least. I do encourage you in all your endeavours and wish you the best of luck with the install! God Bless.

i've used these tanks for years and years. i always pour a pad for them and then build a building around and over them. one to keep the water cool because the sun will heat the water and two to keep the sun off the plastic and make them last longer. i just installed one at our new house and i'm sure it will outlive me. the tanks are around 1K each for the 2500 gallon size you can't do a cistern for that and in rocky soil it would be a bear to dig a hole and then have to have one set in. i built my building 12x12 with a shed roof suitable for solar panels and large enough inside for food storage. if the inside of the building is insulated and sheeted the cold water in the tank will keep the room cool year around and perfect for food and canning storage. not a thing wrong with these tanks. mine is also set up with piping and valving so that i can have water delivered or i can discharge water into my 600 gallon fire trailer or the fire dept. can hook up to it incase of a fire. he's doing the right thing here and it's financially smart.
