Eco nuts or soap nuts are of Indian origin. It's eco friendly,pocket friendly,natural. It's been used in India from decades. Homemade cleaners, shampoos, body wash,laundry detergent (liquid too) etc. Best part is you can compost the leftover. Proud Indian.

I don’t add essential oils because I’m trying to remove the oil. I use tea, hibiscus or sage or rosemary. I also like fenugreek both in the shampoo and conditioner. I like to add coconut water and aloe Vera juice to my rinse. And I now use homemade kombucha vinegar rather than acv because I’ve got plenty. I’ve been doing this for almost a year now and my hair is halfway down my back and super thick and curly. Oh,and I’m in my 50s. Coloring with henna.

Hi, I've been washing my hair with soapnuts for more than a year now. I freeze the decoction in icecube trays, then put all the cubes in a bag and use as needed. I thaw them in the microwave, so it's super convenient. I don't add flax to the shampoo, just soapnuts and water, I usually boil the soapnuts 3 times. If you'd like to dye your hair in a non agressive way you can try henna.

Could the liquid produced by soap nuts possibly be gelled by adding flaxseed for 24 hours then ringing out? Just an idea.. I'm going to try it out. I'm trying to think of ways to thicken it up without using traditional emulsifiers... Perhaps it could also be emulsified with coco glucoside?

I am close to the final stages of COPD and on a very limited income. The soapnuts are the cheapest for me to use. Should we condition our hair after the wash with soapnuts? If so, what should we do?
@SewingLara
@SewingLara 3 года назад
Hi, Raji! It always depends on whether your hair needs extra moisture or not. YOu can use vinegar rinse and that might be enough. I needed conditioner when I filmed this video because my hair was chemically treated. Now after growing out my natural color, I need only conditioner on the parts that were dyed. You can try putting a bit of coconut oil into your ends and see if that will be enough. Or use simply a conditioner without silicon. I am no expert, so this is just my experience, but I hope it helps. Thank you so much for watching!

does it get rid of oiliness in the hair when you wash with it? I am looking for a no poo wash that gets rid of grease
@SewingLara
@SewingLara 7 лет назад
It does, at least with my hair - the hair was afterward very clean and not oily at all. At the beginning it can happen that your hair will get oily around the roots faster because the scalp need up to 6 weeks to adjust to this. I found that my hair was cleaner and I liked the feel of it more than after rye flour or hair soap. Thank you for watching :)

I have been using soapnuts for almost a month. But my dandruff has just remained the same and my hair feels sticky and a little stinky. I was about to stop using soapnuts but I'm gonna try more. I think I should thicken the soapnut mix to use. And why do you rinse with vinegar? is it necessary?
@SewingLara
@SewingLara 5 лет назад
Vinegar seals the hair structure again and makes it shiny. If the soapnuts didn't work so far, maybe a mild shampoo would be a better option - maybe something organic? I personally went back to the solid shampoo form LUSH, it works better for me. I am using Seanik - it smells super fresh. I don't know it that would work in case of dandruff, though.
@milfing
@milfing 5 лет назад
For dandruff i really recommended acv. I mix it in a small spray bottle half water half acv. Whenever I notice dandruff, I spray and massage the mixture into my roots, let it sit for an hour and then wash my hair (I usually also do a hair mask during this time). When I first started treating my dandruff this way, it took me a few weeks until it was completely gone (i put it in my hair before every hair wash, aprox 3x a week). Now, if it ever shows up randomly I use the mixture and it usually goes away with a wash or two. Hope this helps, good luck!

MondbergTV the tea is good for rinsing thru the hair. As a beverage.....I can't deal. The taste is always a shock to me...never got used it it....but in hair....it's amazing.
@SewingLara
@SewingLara 6 лет назад
I like the taste, it reminds me of my childhood. My mom used to cook it for us when we were kids. But I totally get it that some people can't stand it - it is a very distinct and a very strong taste. I guess that is one of the things that people either like or not. I will try rinsing my hair with it, thank you for the tip!

It is def gentler than Castile soap for the hair. Castile soap has a high pH and can damage hair over long term use. I recommend any one that loves their hair, stay away from Castile soap.

I thought that you could re-use the soapnuts until they are almost dissolved.
@SewingLara
@SewingLara 4 года назад
You can use them definitely more often, that is true. I am using them for washing my laundry and usually use them for at least three washes. The key is to use them only as long as they still release saponins. If they were dissolved, I am honestly not sure how much of that would be left.

what is the point of doing natural shampoo and conditioner when you bleach? shouldnt you not bleach? I used to dye my hair blue for a looong time and bleach wrecked my hair. i shaved my head and just got done growing it back out. bleach is horrid.
@SewingLara
@SewingLara 7 лет назад
Because I like to experiment and because I LOVE having blonde hair 😜 Bleach si certainly not healthy, but it is my personal choice. I switched to low poo and everything is fine. Good for you, though! I bet your hair is super shiny and healthy now! How long is your hair now?
@rebeccaspratling2865
@rebeccaspratling2865 2 года назад
You gotta go to a better color specialist. I used to get my hair bleached for over a decade and my hair always grows long and didn't suffer too much damage. The new bleach was probably going onto the previous bleached hair causing it to become brittle. When bleaching new growth they have to be very careful about that to avoid damage. I wouldn't return to someone if they did that to me.

You can bleach your hair with peroxide not that she does cause idk but that’s what I’ve always done with my hair
@SewingLara
@SewingLara 3 года назад
I understand your point. I stopped bleaching my hair and I am growing my own natural hair color. But being vegan doesn't mean a person cannot dye their hair, right? You can still have some guilty pleasures if that is something you enjoy and use more natural products despite dying your hair. However, the hair would not be as healthy, of course. Thanks for watching and sharing your opinion!

I did, but stopped because my hair was too damaged after a while. I loved the blond but I decided to rather grow it out, so now I have my natural color. Thanks for watchign and commenting!

Hi Angie, thanks for watching! Yeah, it is quite a bit of work. I also found out that using soap nuts in western countries has a negative impact on the price development in the countries where the soap nuts originate from :( so I went back to my solid shampoo from LUSH.

They have some great products, indeed. I use the solid shampoo called Seanik, it smells like an afternoon at a sea side with a lovely lemony note. It has a bit of sea salt in it. It gives my hair a bit more of a body.

OMG it takes over 10 minutes just to wash the hair then start the ACV rinse. Too time consuming. Especially if you want to do a deep conditioning treatment afterwards. No thanks. But I like that anyone can save Aton of money on shampoo and body wash.
@SewingLara

Hi Diane, I went back to using solid shampoo exactly for that reason. My hair is now waist long so it still takes a lot of time to wash it, but it'd be even more time consuming with this. Thanks for watching!

Please don't use soap nuts! The people it India who used the for hundreds of years can't afford them anymore because in western countries it is modern to use them. Now they have to buy the normal detergent and it gets in the rivers and harms the environment very badly :(

Totally agree with your responsible attitude. The use of other natural products has had the same effect e.g. the price of quinoa becoming too high for the locals in south america to afford it. This issue needs to be addressed each time we discover these more natural and healthy items. Money can't be the main focus when a product that the local people use is 'discovered'. Local access and local rights need to be protected internationally before export is allowed, none of us want to affect the local people negatively, and we often don't get told how things are produced by those who sell these products. Time to prevent these disasters before they happen.
@SewingLara

That is awful! I wasn't aware of that. Thanks for letting us know! I usually use chestnuts I collect in our parks in fall or ivy from our yard. And some stores have introduced detergents produced regionally, all vegan, no animal testing and it is on cardboard packaging so I will stick to that. Thanks again!
