A nice easy project to do in your spare time.
It's great fun to cruise it under the sun!
Max. speed is 8 km/hour (not a 'speed-boat', but not bad for a Canoe)
If you have any questions, we are happy to answer them.
If you want a more detailed video about the build, just let us know in the comments.
All the best!

I'd put a couple small stabilizer floats on it just incase a big wind came up. Great video but wish you would have talked us through it and explained the process.

Incredible! By selecting a lightweight boat you achieved an amazing efficiency. And apparently there aren't even batteries...

Thx for your reply. I use a small gel-battery (2AH) to get the controller started. Hope you liked the video.

@@fit2fly I did. And your video proved the point that a lightweight boat can easily be powered by sunlight. Thanks!

@@fit2fly thanks! But sadly there is no suitable water body nearby. I live by the sea, but our coast is not very suitable there either. So currently it's all just theory...

That is very well crafted, nice work. So no batteries?

How did you get the MPPT charge controller to power the motor? Was there a battery in the system or did you have something to make the charge controller think it was charging a battery?......i have tried to run a motor with a MPPT controller and i couldn't get it to work without having a small battery in the system to keep the charge controller happy.

Thx for your reply. You're completely right! I use a small gel-battery (2AH) to get the controller started. When the system runs, you can disconnect the battery (did it on some test-runs).It runs on Solar! Hope you liked the video.

@@fit2fly lol ok.....its a few of years since i played with a solar powered motor system and i was thinking you had a newer MPPT controller that would direct drive an electric motor I'm putting together the parts to power a 18ft indian canoe....a couple of the places i go have a rule that prevents a powered boat by banning any liquid fuel or stored energy (AKA propulsion battery's) being onboard.....but if i'm running off straight solar it keeps everyone happy

I'm slowly gathering the parts. Have an aluminium canoe. I guess your panels are 12v. Is 80w enough?
@fit2fly
@fit2fly 6 месяцев назад
I use 100w panels, but at first I experimented with only 2 panels and even that went fine. The speed-gain by adding more panels is not linear. So I think 80w panels wil be fine! The angle of the sun is more of a factor (in the Netherlands that's not so good). Have fun builing/sailing your canoe.

So there is not a battery?

Hello John, I use a small gel-battery (2AH) to get the MPPT-inverter started. When the system runs, you can disconnect the battery. It runs completely on Solar! Hope you liked the video.

"designed to be taken easily apart"?? It's not even close, buddy. What designed it? An ape after having a serious stroke?! top heavy, underpowered and an ape in control.. I do admire the "wants", but execution of such a plan, FFS.. it's a shame on one's honour.
